Convention 2010 in Minneapolis!

It's coming up!

Here's a place to talk about it.

I'll add more info as it becomes available.

Is anyone going?

ilovetheviolets 10-28-2009 11:42 PM

I will be attending. It's my first convention (even though I will be going into my 10th year as a Sigma sister). I can't wait to go!

Cruise4fun 10-29-2009 09:27 AM

A Sigma Beginner!

Greetings Sigma Sigma Sigma Ladies!
I just completed my ARC degree with a Circle Degree planned in April 2010.
I am joining as an alumnae member. I am so excited to be going to Convention. It will be my FIRST ONE! I've been saving every since they asked me.
What's it like?
How expensive is it?
Do they accommodate disabled vegetarians?
I can hardly wait:D
P.S. I just found out I could wear letters! I've been on the internet for hours LOL:p

2010 Minneapolis Convention

I'm on the Convention Committee from the Twin Cities Alumnae Chapter. You guys should be SO excited to go! It's going to be fantastic! My first convention was in Nashville and it was an AMAZING time! So fun!!! It really makes you think about why you joined Sigma, the rituals, meeting amazing women from all over the country. Definitely go!! I know in the Spring Triangle all the info will be sent out regarding costs, etc. Start saving though, but it's worth it!

The hotel is the Bloomington Sheraton and it's nice! Close to everything and about 10 minute away from the Mall of America. Herei is the link to the hotel:
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1493

And yes, they will accomodate disabled vegetarians! :)

Can't wait to meet you guys!

Sigma Love!

I am so excited about Convention! The Eta Rho & Greater Savannah Alum chapter ladies are excited to see Minnesota!

ms_gwyn 02-10-2010 08:00 PM

I *think* I might be going as a delegate...I could go to the January Alumna Chapter meeting due to a family thing, I will have to firm that up. I'm dying to go to Convention....

Its official, I will be at Convention.....

I am very optimistic about this :D

sigmaceli 02-19-2010 02:41 PM

I'm presenting an educational program at Convention this year! Very excited - it's my first one ever!

KSUViolet06 02-19-2010 02:43 PM

Currently trying to determine if attending is feasible for me. Stay tuned. It would be great to go, as it would be my first!

ms_gwyn 03-08-2010 03:20 PM

I just purchased my plane tix for Convention!!! I have to fly in a day early in order to obtain reasonable airfare. If your city is serviced by Frontier and its a reasonable time, I highly recommend purchasing from them. They are by far the cheapest right now...at least from my neck of the woods, else I would've flown SW, where my bags fly free!

KSUViolet06 04-28-2010 07:22 PM

It's official ladies, I will be seeing you in Minneapolis in July.

I am so excited I don't even know what to do!

Also, I think a "meet up" is most defintely in order here.

Yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy.

Cruise4fun 04-28-2010 07:55 PM

I am still on the fence. Trying to decide if I can use my vacation days to go and still go on vacation with the fiancee

sigmaceli 04-29-2010 06:58 PM

Yaaaaayyyyyy!! I get to meet my GC sistas!

Cruise4Fun, I sincerely hope I get to see you there...but I understand that vacay with the fiance ranks as priority, haha. ;)

KSUViolet06 04-29-2010 11:31 PM

As it gets closer, we need to make meet-up plans :)

I am so excited!

PS. Now what the heck do I need to pack to wear (for anyone who has been before--it's a serious question lol).

KSUViolet06 05-03-2010 06:47 PM

Double-posting but I don't care because I'm receiving Circle Degree AT CONVENTION. OMG.

Cruise4fun 05-03-2010 07:01 PM

I recieved Circle Degree at the last convention.

As for attire...
1. the meetings and sessions during the day are badge attire
2. Initiation/Circle Degree that's obvious
3. Laurels Banquet is dressy
4. Festival of Lights is dressy
5. There are some fun activities like pj party/t-shirt swap.

Here are some of my pictures from Nasville

Festival of Lights (this is Monday Night)

Thanks alot. I talked to Margaret at HQ and looked up some photos from other sisters so I think I have a good idea now!

PS. I love that I now have a reason to buy pretty dresses. lol.

I was able to witness one of my close friends and sister receive Circle Degree at Convention in Nashville and it was one of my proudest moments that I was able to experience that with her. I also thought it was so cool that there was a sister who received Circle Degree via Sign Language that day.

You're going to have such an amazing time. I am already planning on making sure I am at the next one! You need to post on FB once they make the announcement in MN! ;)

ms_gwyn 05-03-2010 11:52 PM

I'm a poor working slub, paying student loans....2 dressy dresses, White (my initiation whites are no longer good)....yea...this is going to be fun.

But I can't wait.

I will be receiving Circle Degree as well

ihearttrisigma 05-09-2010 10:37 PM

I just thought of something that I saw last convention that I wanted to pass along. I remember that sisters brought copies of their "Path from Farmville" to have signed by sisters they met and National Officers. I didn't bring mine, the thought didn't even cross my mind, but I thought it was a cool idea! :)

Cruise4fun 05-12-2010 06:51 PM

Well it is official. I will not be going to convention. My niece is having some issues and is coming to stay with me this summer for some special attention.

I hope everyone has a fabulous time.

KSUViolet06 05-21-2010 06:09 PM

Aww, cruise4fun. You'll be missed, but I hope you and your neice have a great summer.

Sidenote: Just booked my flight, for $10! Thanks, Dad and Frequent Flyer miles :)

ilovetheviolets 05-31-2010 09:00 PM

I was home for the long weekend and got some clothes for convention. I can't believe how close it is! Got a nice dress/cardigan for the day activities and a nice white dress for ritual (along with a shrug). An experienced convention attendee sent me a guideline to clothes for convention and forewarned me about the tendency for all hotels to have intense air conditioning so there will be lots of layers brought. I can't wait!

p.s...link to my new white dress..http://www.whitehouseblackmarket.com...&maxPg=4&size=

KSUViolet06 05-31-2010 09:02 PM

I've started my shopping too!

Do you care if I PM you with questions?

I'm a rookie and I want to make sure i'm bringing the right stuff. :)

Soooo excited!

We're going to need to start planning a meet-up here soon!

ilovetheviolets 05-31-2010 09:22 PM

PM away KSU!

sigmaceli 06-01-2010 12:09 PM

Ugh, I'm struggling with the appropriate attire issue too, and I was a consultant!

I'm nervous about dresses for the banquets. How formal are they? Do I need to go out and get a floor-length gown? I have a knee length little black dress, but I guess I'm just concerned...

ms_gwyn 06-01-2010 02:28 PM

You and me both Celi...

I think I'm going Cocktail for Laurels Banquet

and floor length for Festival of Lights...

I also just found out that I may have to puchase another pair of whites for the opening...I'm really struggling financially at the moment...I don't think that is going to have...

::sigh::

I'm very excited about convention and really wanted this, but during all of those...things started to hit the fan for me....

It will get better and everything will work out for me, I just have to have faith that it will.

sigmaceli 06-01-2010 02:59 PM

I see you got the exact same e-mail earlier this morning about whites.

I wish they had a scholarship for each alumnae chapter the way that they have done Destination Sigma in the past. I'm a graduate student too, and on VERY limited funds...

I tell you what. I'm going to PM you about sizes, and maybe I might have some extra stuff lying around - Sigma consignment shop for Convention, lol! I know that I can offer a suit jacket that you are more than welcome to alter, and I saw a white skirt suit at Ross for $20. You may want to check that out in your area if possible.

ms_gwyn 06-01-2010 06:24 PM

I will look into Ross and Marshalls and all other places...believe me!

and thank you for the PM

sigmaceli 06-01-2010 10:55 PM

It's my pleasure - that's what sisterhood is all about!

And if there is anyone else in the same boat, speak up. Celi will take care of you too. ;)

KSUViolet06 06-02-2010 10:51 PM

Sooo I just went to Macy's this evening to get my dresses for ritual, Festival of Lights and Laurels banquets.

For those who are curious, I went with tea/cocktail length dresses because I am short. I have heard that there is a good mix of long and short dresses at the banquets.

Right now, all of their formal stock is on sale (since prom/graduation season is just about over). All of the formal/semi formal dresses were marked down by 40% and 50%. They had some on clearance for %60!

So if you live near a Macy's store, check it out. If you are interested, I can PM links to the stuff I bought.

So excited!

KSUViolet, I am so happy for you that you're going to attend your first Convention. You'll have a blast!

KSUViolet06 06-04-2010 11:59 PM

^^^Thank you. I am BEYOND excited at this point. I don't even think there is a word. lol.

sigmaceli 06-06-2010 03:24 AM

LOL, NutBrnHair, we're excited that KSUViolet will be in the Twin Cities too! I've visited this woman's chapter, spent time with her little and grandlittle, seen her composite pic in person and STILL haven't met her in person.

But I will in a month! :D

ilovetheviolets 06-06-2010 09:18 AM

As was said before, we need to figure out a greekchat meet up!

NutBrnHair 06-06-2010 03:01 PM

Attending one's Inter/National Convention is a wonderful experience. I wish everyone who is a regular on GC had this opportunity. It increases pride in your organization and helps you see the big picture. I had the opportunity to represent my collegiate chapter in 1982 at Convention and this year's will be #13 for me! Let's just say I was hooked after #1!

violetpretty 06-06-2010 04:31 PM

Minneapolis, I am jealous. I'll be steaming in Orlando at SK's Convention. My plan is to not leave the building.

I get the feeling we'll be a little hot too. Midwestern summers can be scorchers sometimes. They don't compare to FL though!
