IM NEW!!! Help Please?!
:) Hi first of all My user name is just Michelle Backward! :o Nothing strange or foreign?!
Please excuse the ignorance.. I'm Newer than New to GC.. and Greek Life in general!! LOL:D I would really like to be in or start a Sorority... YES!! I have read all of the posts and threads on the topic... and I will take all those comments into consideration, But the thing is I live in New Zealand?! We do have a few Sororities at some of our Main Universities, But I'm not actually attending any of them, I'm hoping to attend a Private School! I have done research on many College (U.S) Sororities.. Well what they let out on their Websites anyway!? And I totally Know Sorority life is not all Glitz and Glamour like Hollywood paints it. But I really Respect the Sisterhood of Sorority life and find "The Philanthropy" (Please excuse the spelling error!) of different organisations to be interesting! Anyway, I have 5 Questions?!
xoxo    |

First off, can you perhaps link us to the website of one of these sororities? I personally have never heard of Greeklife in NZ. Because a lot depends on if you even have a Greek system to speak of in your country.

You very first step should be to see if there are any women on your campus that are interested in a sorority like group. If so, you should then focus on developing friendships within that group. Only then should you begin to think about starting a sorority. I think many girls believe that they must create a sorority and then get girls to join. I believe that you will have a much better and more meaningful organization if you design it around a group of women who are already close friends. That way your group will be characteristic of who you are as women and friends. Your sorority will be something that you create as friends around your shared values and beliefs.
In a nutshell: Don't create a sorority to find sisterhood. Find sisterhood and then create. |

Links... Uhm I just found them on Facebook... "Auckland Sorority" in Google. I don't think they have the Full GREEK effect, thats why I asked about starting one?! There's one at Auckland, statred by a Guy I think.. and a Fraternity and Sorority in the Capital. What do you mean by Quote:

And Why are you telling us your Weight, when the question has nothing to do with that.. I think it's cool that your rushing or whatever.. But please keep the weight issues to yourself thanks!! ;) |
Oh yeah so like the reason I came On GC in the first place was because I was on Yahoo! answers and there was a link to this site.. Some Guy "I think" asked about some lists? and the best answer "person" gave a link to this site!! hence me asking my 5 questions.. LOL

Mmmm Kae.. The Girl that said I need to learn to spell has got me a bit iffy.. :( What words have I spelt incorrectly?!! Some please tell me?! |

Also, little hint: might want to tone down the huge font! |

And the random capitalizations make it read strangely as well (and rather Earpish). ETA: Are we sure this isn't Earp? All of the symptoms are there.... |
Organisation is the standard British/Canadian/Aussie/Kiwi spelling of the word, but Michelle, what's with the random capitalization? The last time I checked spellings were different between the US and the Anglophone world, but the rules of capitalization remain the same.

I think your questions are interesting. I doubt any of the NPC sororities would want to expand into New Zealand because it would simply be too expensive to service that group. Regardless of how it looks, we are non-profit organizations and expensive airline tickets are just not in the budget. And although all the NPC sororities are very similar in structure, they are all secret societies, so no one could share with you how it "really" works. So that being said, if you wanted to gather a group of girlfriends and construct a group, it might be fun! Since you're not under the same restrictions as a similar group at an American university, you can do with it whatever you want.
Just for interest's sake, you could see if there's an American Women Association near you and find out if there are any sorority women in that group. They still couldn't really help you set up the group, but maybe they'd discuss with you their experiences as sorority women from America and give you some ideas. |

Michelle Backward, this all seems like a lot of work for something you and your friends talked about as a joke. |
The Random Capz was my fault.. it's a stupid habit I picked up?! I don't know where..
"what words have I spelled Incorrectly?!" IS that what your looking for MysticCat?! Well NAH.. That's Not How I roll Sorry! I thought I would get some help on this site. But I guess that this Forum is exclusive to already Know-all sorority and fraternity Braaz and Siidahs!! Sweet as.. we'll just buy a house slapp on some greek letters and BAMM "Sorority"! Nahh, aint that durr.. Would be good if it was as simple as that though!!! Oh well... we learnt alot about sorority beginnings.. and thanks to everyone that gave us advice.. That's apparently not needed! LOL! So we out yO!! PEACE OUTT!! <oh and sorry for the MAJOR Lettering In the "spelling post".. I really don't like things in small font!! lol!> |

This thread is an awesome thread to read on BB. The whole thing needs to be Q'edFP.
I wish these newbies were an undercover Earp vs. DITY duel. Too, too funny. |
I think every post the OP made was quoted.
eta: looks like I was wrong. |
It's so interesting how Facebook's Sorority Life manipulates peoples' understanding about GLO's. GLWT!

since I'm a new GC'er, would anyone like to fill me in on Earp?
|
I'm fairly new as well :p, though I was here to catch the tail end of his time on GC !
For the full effect, I suggest doing a post search for Tom Earp  so you can experience it fully :D |
Earp is still around I thought, at least by different names.
|
My post search on Earp = wow reaction from me.
I think I had more fun reading the posts ABOUT him lol |
