Big Little Reveal

Hey ladies! We are having big/little reveal in the next couple of weeks and I am looking for a CREATiVE fun way to reveal the bigs to the littles. Please let me know what your chapters have done in the past. Also, nothing that would be considered hazing please. Thanks!

For our reveal this year, each little received a flower. They then had to find the person with the matching flower- that person was their big. We did it out at a park, with a picnic lunch afterwards. The littles were just in a different pavilion when they received the flower, in view of the bigs- so it wasn't like they had to search all over the entire park. I thought it was really cute!

I recently found out who my Diamond Sis is! The way we did it was all the new members were told to run downstairs and find a balloon with their name on it. Once we found our balloon, we popped it to reveal a slip of paper with a room number on it. All of us ran to our designated rooms and our Diamond Sisters were there waiting at the door!

Ours is super cute. All of the big sisters are standing in a big circle and one by one, the new members walk along the inside of the circle with a lit candle. When she gets to her big, her big blows out the candle and then it's all exciting and fun. I think we added a bunch of sisters who were not taking littles that year so that the last new members to have a turn still got to be surprised.

We had a 'string party'. When pledges were not present, every 'big' at our house got a ball of yarn (all different colors) they wove the yarn all over the house, the porch, the back yard. The strings all got tangled and it was a real test for the pledges to unwind their string later. The 'littles' arrived at the house and found their designated string...they had to unwind the string which at the end had a 'clue' as to who her 'big' might be. The clues were usually pretty obscure. Later that night we had our reveal...involved candles being blown out similar to tri deezy above.

I love these big/little reveal stories; they are so cute!

My chapter had a scavenger hunt all over campus. At each location, we had to perform a certain task (saying something positive about a fellow pledge, team work activities, etc) in order to get the clue to the next location. At our final location, we opened boxes one at a time, in front of the whole chapter. The boxes were filled with clues as to who our big might be. For some, the clues were easy, but for others it was actually pretty tough.

That's funny because we totally did a string party too! Also, the whole week leading up to big/little rev, the bigs give clues with gifts. The week starts with baskets full of gifts and the girls get serenaded. Ahh to be a new member. I laugh when people think that pledging a sorority means hazing...

Ok so what we did was all of our bigs parked their car in a big parking lot and hid in them. Littles received their big's keys and had to match the key with the car and that was how we revealed. :)

We did 3 days of gifts with clues. The gifts were usually inside jokes, decorated shot glasses, goblets, picture frames, pin boxes, and of course a phi bear.

the reveal was a candle ceremony the day before i week started.

We did the car thing too, like msykes! SOOOO fun! Ours was like a scavenger hunt and then we got the car keys because we ended up in a parking garage. Loved it.

For Big/Little week, in addition to gifts, we leave clues to the Big Sis' identity in the Little's gift basket. Bigs and Littles also sometime correspond or the Littles guess through notes in the gift baskets.

One year our Reveal Night fell on Halloween, so the Big Sis' last gift was a Halloween costume. The Bigs wore corresponding costumes to Reveal. The costumes didn't match, but the two costumes formed a pair-- a salt and pepper shaker for instance, or for the one Little who got two Bigs (they were "twins" and wanted to keep the family united) two peas and a pod.

Isn't it exciting?! :D

Your reveal sounds like so much fun!

We had a lock-in, and at one point a little while after we all got there, the actives had us leave the room. Then when we came back in, there were balloons all over the room. They gave each of us an index card with our name on it in a certain color. Then we had to run around popping the balloons, and each one had one letter in it in a different color, and we had to put all the letters together to spell out the last names of our bigs. I loved it.

We did string party. Often, the bigs swapped colors, too, so a little couldn't just say "oh, that's mine"; she had to follow the actual string. It was a blast, and one of my chapter's fondest memories.

I don't know if it was national's call or just the chapter's, but they dropped the tradition because someone might consider it hazing.

I love love love how my chapter does big reveal. The littles are told long in advance that big/little reveal is on a certain day, usually like a Friday night, when it's actually a few days before. They'll come to the house, either for some supposed meeting or ritual or something, and surprise! All the bigs and their families are in a big circle in a room, all holding up sheets so the littles can't see anyone when they're led in and told it's reveal. A sock is left for each little to put on, and her big is wearing the matching sock. Each little has to find her matching sock that is sticking out under the sheets. Once everyone is matched up, we do our favorite chant and then drop the sheets. It's so much fun to do, from both sides :)

My chapter actually wrote a ritual for our big/little reveal.

I would consider doing the same. Writing a ritual is possibly one of the most inspiring things you can do as an active member of your organization.

It gets you very in-tune with your values and it allows you to have a special bond that you know only the brothers in your chapter will have.

ShyViolet 12-27-2009 12:47 PM

I've seen the matching shirts thing before - it looks really cute. :)

My favourite reveal (long after I'd got my big sis, and my little sis) was a candlelit circle. Each little sis would have received her last present of big/little week, and inside the card was half of a poem about sisterhood or friendship. She would close her eyes and be led into the centre of the circle, then her big would come stand back to back. The little sister would read the first half, then the big sister would read the last half, then they'd turn around and there'd be much hugging and celebrating. :) I thought it was super cute.

ADPiTigergurl 12-27-2009 04:31 PM

we did a tshirt thing...it was during sisterhood retreat, they sent the alphas out of the room and gave us shirts that had half of a song title on it we then went into a room where all the bigs were wearing shirts with the other half of the song on it! it was so cute and fun.

probably the only guy on here. But at Delt we have a big brother ceremony specifically written down. It reveals your big and has alot of symbolism in the ceremony as well.

I think it might be a guy thing. (Check my earlier post)
