QFP

[rant]
Why is it that some posters QFP on every post they respond to, even though someone else has already QdFP the same entire post?
[/end rant]

You mean that you don't think people should quote the post they are actually responding to if it's previously been quoted or just that it's pointless to Q specifically FP if the response has been previously quoted?

I always quote the posts that I respond to to make clear what I'm responding to, but I'm open to stopping if it's bothering some of you.

When should you quote?

Senusret I 10-10-2009 08:46 PM

I'm not speaking for Benz, but what specifically irritates me is when someone quotes an entire post and then gives an entire response which not only synthesizes or restates all previous responses but doesn't acknowledge them, either.

It's like GC-redundancy plus GC-plagiarism! Where is the honor council? lol

No. Lets assume a poster writes a long essay. You QFP (the entire post) and give an answer to a piece of it or all of it, then Senusret QFPs (the entire post) and give an answer to one sentence. Senusret would then get on my nerves for posting the entire post again.

We have members out here that whenever they post, the QFP whether it's necessary or not.

Senusret I 10-10-2009 09:16 PM

Just look in the Recruitment section.

You KNOW I am always three seconds away from saying DAMN BITCH IS THERE AN ECHO IN HERE?????

This made me giggle.

UGAalum94 10-10-2009 10:16 PM

Now, I'm a little skittish about quoting.

Is this happening in long threads when people haven't read the whole thing, perhaps?

I'll do that somethings. Something fires me up, and I respond before I've read all the other responses. Then, I read the other responses and see that I should probably delete, and I often do.

Maybe the folks who are driving you crazy never bother to read the whole thing to see that they are restating everything, which would still be really annoying.

Benzgirl 10-10-2009 10:54 PM

^^^
It's not you. They are regular posters and come acrossed as experts. And, Senusret is correct; they post in the Recruitment sections and quote and quote and quote and quote.

Ok, now I'm the Echo.

Leslie Anne 10-10-2009 11:21 PM

<---heading over to the Recruitment boards to look for QFPs.

I don't get how someone could get upset at the way someone else post. Who gives a shit? It's a message board. I could understand if we could hear each other talking, because some things you don't want to hear get heard anyway because our ears are always open. However, we have the option of reading what we want to read, and what we don't.

Senusret I 10-11-2009 01:21 AM

You give a shit.

Xanthus 10-11-2009 01:24 AM

Actually I don't. I'm just clueless why someone would start a whole thread on it, or why someone would say they were bothered by a certain kind of post.

Senusret I 10-11-2009 01:26 AM

Clueless enough to add two posts to the thread.

Now you gave two shits.

Haha, well yeah about why people get pissed at how someone posts. But I don't see why that's a big deal. Maybe I haven't been on GC long enough to care, but why read the post if it bothers people?

Xanthus 10-11-2009 03:24 AM

Yeah, I can see that.

Aha! I found the culprit. It was who I thought it was.

Yes, it's annoying.

Quoting someone to respond to them and QFPing are different. I think if I know what's being discussed, the person(s) doing it are actually writing "QFP" in their response, even if someone else already has.

Maybe they're playing backup for us, in case the original QFPer gets a ray of sunshine up their ass and deletes their post out of pity??:p

pbear19 10-11-2009 10:04 AM

I haven't the slightest clue who you all are talking about, but is this whole thread really about one person? Or is it a trend that needs to be stopped before it picks up more steam?

If it's multiple people then I get it. I am generally annoyed by people who quote without needing to for context, because it clogs up the thread.

But I'm starting to get the feeling this is all about a single person, in which case - why don't you just directly ask him/her to stop?

One person does it all of the time, but then others follow suit. Sometimes their answers are, "Go Baked Alaska".
Is QFP irrelevant in this case? No, its extraneous.

I'm simply venting. If someone can over-QFP to the point of an Echo (my new word, thanks to Senusret), I can vent in a QFP thread. And, after you have read enough threads, you might see what I mean.

Particularly on a Blackberry.

DubaiSis 10-11-2009 10:51 AM

The reason it gets annoying is because if you're reading through an entire thread it's tedious to figure out what's meant to be read and what's just a space filler. Quoting a part of a previous post can be helpful, but it regularly happens that a recruitment thread will be LONG and quoted in full over and over again. No, it's not the end of the world. Just annoying. I think the reason it happens is because some people click QUOTE instead of REPLY as their method of posting. To me, the only reason to Quote an entire previous post is, by definition, to make sure this thread doesn't get deleted once the OP comes to his/her senses.

But hey, that's me. Do what you'd like, and I'll just scroll faster.

I rather sheepishly admit, when I first saw "QFP", it was on some thread where someone was complaining about something (maybe the recruitment thread?!), I thought it meant Quit F'ing Posting. As in, "shut up already". I thought, my goodness, they really pull no punches on here! DUHHH.

33girl 10-11-2009 10:39 PM

Well, actually, that probably would be a good and often apropos interpretation, as the poster who gets QFPed is usually running off at the mouth to their own detriment. :p But to answer KappaFT2's question...it means Quoted For Posterity.

That's what i know QFP to be for - in case someone tries to reneg on something they said before.

seriously. i mean, all that could be solved if there was a mobile version of GC. but that would require more $ to John. and ive actually gotten used to reading GC (and posting) on Blackberry.

No no no, I mean I really did just QFP something in another thread right before I came into this one (as in I literally wrote "QFP" behind it). I wasn't talking about the quote I did when I said "Me, three." I know the difference! :D

Can we discuss why the poster doesn't know the difference between a G and a Q?
