The Best REMAKE EVA!
In your opinion, what has been the BEST remake TO DATE (musically)?
I mean it was sooooo HOT that it almost sounded better than the ORIGINAL. ( Is that possible?) I'm thinking...I'm thinking... :D |
"I Will Always Love You"
Whitney Houston vs. Dolly Parton:eek: "Endless Love" Lionel Richie and Diana Ross vs. Mariah Carey and Luther Vandross "I'm Every Woman" Whitney Houston vs. Chaka Khan |
Never
I've never heard a remake that sounded better then the first, but looking forward to the list, maybe I'll change my mind.
|
A House Is not a Home-Luther. I don't remember the person who made it originally.
Just Can't Stay Away- EnVogue (1st CD) vs. Natalie Cole |
I'm going Down" Mary J Blige vs Rose Royce
I Still Believe Brenda K Starr vs Mariah (And I usually hate remakes) |
Let me add..
I Believe in You and Me- Whitney vs. The Four Tops
|
i forgot the name
"Ribbon in the sky" Stevie Wonder vs ?????
I forgot the name of this group but they had another hit that went "It's all about you, every day, every way....." Their remake of this classic was OFF THE HOOK. I still love Stevie's, but this one has him runnin, lol. QTE;) |

I also like Chaka Khan's version of My Funny Valentine. EnVogue's version of Giving Him Something He Can Feel. |
Lauren Hill's Killing Me Softly was off the hook vs. Al B. Sure's 80's remake which I loved also vs. Robert Flack's original, which I found to be kind of dull but still good.
|
As We Lay - Don't get me wrong, I like Shirley Murdock's rendition but I just LOVE Kelly Price's remake.
Anything made over by Luther is usually the bomb. Oh, and All Cried Out. Original by Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam, remake by Allure and 112. |
The Best Remake Eva.......
I think some of the best remakes ever are Aaliyah's remakes of 2 Isley Brothers' classics, "At Your Best (You Are Love)" and "Choosy Lover." I miss her sooo much. :( I also like Jesse Powell's remake of "Gloria." I forgot who sang the original.
|
I don't like remakes either, but if I had to chose...
Got To Be There- Chaka Khan vs. Jackson 5 |
My mistake (editing)

Fire & Desire- Rick James & Teena Marie vs. Johnny Gill and Coko of SWV. I like the original better.
Also, Oooh baby baby- Smokey vs. Linda Rondstadt. Linda ain't got nothing on Smokey's version. |
thank you!
Thank you Crimsontide! I wouldn't of guessed INTRO for a million dollars.
Ginuwine vs Prince "when doves cry". NOBODY can beat the old prince:) QTE |
normally i like the remake better than the original, but i've thought about one exception...
am i dreamin' - renee and angela (i believe) was remade about 4 years ago by xscape/ol' skool/keith sweat to me, there are a few artists whose songs shouldn't be remade, simply because i think they're unimitable, such as... patti labelle bob marley prince tina turner |
Hmmm..........
Always and Forever - Heatwave vs. Luther Vandross I can't make you love me - (??) vs. Bonnie Raitt Killing Me Softly - Roberta Flack vs. (??..you know Lauryn Hill & those guys) http://www.plauder-smilies.de/party/singer.gif  But what irks me is unestablished artists doing remakes!! Come out with your own STUFF!!! |
SARA SMILE After 7 vs Hall and Oates
Baby I'm for Real - After 7 vs Marvin Gaye (I think) all cried out! - 112 & Allure As we lay |
I'm confused, here!
I asked for REMAKES that were better than the ORIGINAL. I can't tell by some of the posts if you are saying the ORIGINAL was better or if the REMAKE was better.
 |

I love A Dream by Mary J, I'm not sure of the lady's name that made that song first.I also like her version of the Stevie song As that she did with George Michael. On the Love Jones soundtrack I like the remake of Minnie Rippleton's Inside My Love. I'm an old school fan so I usually like the original more than the remakes. I also like How Come You Don't Call me by Alicia Keys, Prince did that song first.

The Answer is....

I still stand by my choice and I think the Chaka Khan remake is better than the original.

Mariah Carey and Sisqo "The Beautiful Ones" vs. Prince...and I LOVE Prince, so maybe not better, but as good as.
Also, En Vogue's "Yesterday" WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the Beatles! |
Maxwell's version of "This Woman's Work", originally performed by Kate Bush. I also love both En Vogue and Boyz II Men's versions of "Yesterday"
|
Best remakes
Going is Circles ~ I don't know the guy's name that sung the original version, but I love the Gap Bands version the best. Even better than Luther's version.
Also, Can't get next to you ~ It is a toss up. I can't decide who's rendition is better. Al Greens or the Temptations. I am leaning more towards the Temptations. But I love me some Al Grits!! I like Atlantic Starr's version of Am I Dreaming better than Xcapes and those guys (i forgot the group). Always and Forever ~ Heatwave hands down. Now, I like Luther, but the original is the best IMO. all cried out! ~ The original by Lisa Lisa is better than 112 & Allure's rendition. As you probably noticed...I am an old head. This is all I can think of for now... :) |
Gospel remakes...
What does everyone think of a gospel remake of a secular song?
Just wanna know what ya' think! |
I'll have to agree that Maxwell's version of "This Womans Work" is one of the hottest remakes ever. Hell, it's one of the hottest love songs ever!
|
I loved Donnell Jones' remake of Knocks Me Off My Feet. I can't remember who sang the original, but I liked that one too.
|
The remake that I truly enjoyed is the Mary J& method man version of you all I need to survie compared to Marvin Gay& Tammy Terreal(sp):D

Pure Soul's remake of the O'Jays' "Stairway to Heaven" was mighty tight as well as H-Town's cover of the Persuaders' "Thin Line Between Love and Hate"
oh, and D'Angel's "Cruisin" is better than Smokey's |

"Lately"- Jodeci
I like almost every version of "I Can't Make You Love Me". There are so many versions that I don't know which came first, althought I think it was Nancy Wilson. I love Prince's version though. Its amazing how he can manage to put a freaky twist on a sad love song. |
