Texas A&M starts Aug 24...

DD reports that approximately 700 girls are participating. Long day tomorrow with 12 houses to visit and triple digit heat.

Good luck to everyone and stay hydrated!! :)

aggieAXO 08-24-2009 12:46 AM

Good luck to all the PNMs!

kdclm 08-24-2009 09:37 AM

And good luck to all the chapters at TAMU. Have a great rush!

NewAggieMom 08-26-2009 01:00 AM

Round 2 is over. DD had a full schedule of 9 houses today, and some definite favorites are emerging. She did have a little bit of a tough time tonight deciding which three to rank at the bottom because she said they have all been really great and friendly. They got caught in a short rainstorm today, but hey, it's summer in Texas!

Good luck to all the PNMs tomorrow!

aggieAXO 08-26-2009 08:56 AM

How many prefs do they attend now? It use to be just 2 prefs and we did not rank houses, we just cut the ones we did not want to go back to.

kdclm 08-26-2009 09:17 AM

Today is Skit Day! The PNMs should really enjoy them. I got to see my daughter's sorority skit and it was absolutely entertaining and fun. Have a great day to all PNMs and chapters!

I think they can go to three prefs now. A friend's had daughters there the last 5 years or so, and one went through last fall. That's a great campus experience for them.
Good luck to all, and I hope they all stay well! I know at least one house has "wash your hands" signs in various places because of the flu. According to the local paper, it's spreading at TCU now, too.

NewAggieMom 08-26-2009 10:30 AM

Good morning!
I believe they can attend a max of 6 parties today and a max of 3 prefs on Thursday.

To AggieAXO: You're right. They haven't been ranking houses, just listing the three that they would prefer to not return to. One that she listed wasn't necessarily because she didn't feel comfortable there, but because she said their expenses were almost double the other houses'. She needed a reason to rank three at the bottom, so this was it for this particular house.

I am so thankful that my DD is having such a positive experience. Three friends of hers went through recruitment at another Texas school last week and had a very different experience. All three ended up dropping out of recruitment before bid day.

Have a great day!

aggieAXO 08-26-2009 05:21 PM

I have to say rush and just being at A&M in general was a great experience. I have lived in Austin for the past 12 years and I know UT would not have been the school for me. I was not greek for the first 2 years at A&M but it did not matter I had just as much fun.

True - wash your hands during recruitment! I know that sounds silly considering I hope everyone washes their hands ANYWAY, but I'm pretty sure recruitment was the culprit at TCU. I have friends in several sororities there (including possibly one in my chapter, not sure) who now have the flu strain going around... ugh, glad I'm missing that.

I also have a daughter at TCU, and it's not just the sororities being affected by the flu. It is spreading through the dance team and the nursing students (my daughter is in both of these groups :(). They are just telling them to stay home, but at the same time, the university has told them that absences will NOT be excused! Not sure what they are trying to accomplish with that policy. I think the promised vaccine is going to be way too late...

We live just outside of Fort Worth's western edge. A nearby middle school has now confirmed it, too. I got the hand sanitizer out again.
As for classes, they'll have to excuse them in one form or another. Teachers, even on the college level, can bend the rules when they need to bend them.

Yay for my Little Sis whose youngest daughter joined her oldest daughter in Delta Gamma at A&M today!

Whoop! Go Triad!

Bluebonnet Mom 08-30-2009 05:29 PM

Congratulations to Gamma Phi! My daughter has some close friends there and says they are a fantastic group of girls.

Last I heard from my daughter was Friday just before the craziness broke out. Delta Gamma met quota and may have exceeded it but she wasn't sure of final numbers at that time. One of the girls from her high school is now a new member and she is so thrilled. Daughter also has a close friend in A Chi O and she's pretty sure they made quota too.

NewAggieMom - ZTA has an absolutely gorgeous brand new house. It's a jaw dropper for sure. I wish I had taken a picture of it when we helped move my daughter in!

Nobody seems to know quota for sure, but isn't it great they are all so excited?!!

Also, kudos to the Zetas. They had such a tough time last fall when their house didn't pass inspection and had to be demolished. From what I understand, they rose to the occasion and now have a wonderful new house.

If you've not been to College Station and are in the area, please visit. This is a great place, and you will be so proud of all the Greeks there.

Here's hoping everybody has the best year ever!

Oh my! What happened that they had to demolish the house?

Bluebonnet Mom 08-30-2009 07:13 PM

I remember talking to one of the Zetas at Block Party, April of last year. This is when all the sorority members open up their homes for tours and for PR for high school girls and their parents. The Zetas had to have a tent set up since their home was off limits. I was told that they had serious foundation problems, we're talking catastrophic failure unsafe foundation problems. The girls had to be put up in other housing immediately when it happened. So they were without a house this past year, but the new home got completed just in time for rush of this year.

aggieAXO 08-30-2009 10:06 PM

It would be so nice if every group made quota :D, it seems to be the trend on other campuses lately-hopefully it will be contagious to A&M.

SWTXBelle 08-30-2009 10:19 PM

Now I need a list of the new pledges so I can see where my rec crew ended up !

srmom 08-31-2009 02:40 PM

I've seen a bunch of pictures of the new zeta house (my friend's daughter is a sophomore and she sent rush pics). It is beautiful, especially the entry hall with the stairway.
