A UCF Recruitment- Fall 2009
Hey Chatters! Recruitment is just a week away (ahh!) and I have been waiting a long time to write my own story, so I figured what better time than tonight to get started!
I am a first generation collegian, both in immediate and extended family (except one male cousin) so I was pretty hopeless going into this whole recruitment thing.. A little history... I will be rushing as a sophomore but my story has to begin with my freshman year... I knew UCF was for me and I believe Greek Life is too. The day I got my acceptance letter I signed up for Recruitment and spent weeks reading the likes of Greek Rank and Juicy Campus (TERRIBLE, I KNOW, PLEASE JUST KEEP READING!) As the naive girl I was, I believed the rumors and stereotypes and thought I knew where I belonged. Unfortunately, two weeks before recruitment my Grandma became sick and I decided it was more important to spend my time before with her out of state. As sad as I was, it was probably the best decision I could have made. I knew I still wanted to be Greek and fortunately got to see a lot of the UCF chapters my first year. Girls were in my classes, holding fundraisers, blood drives, helping me study for tests, and somewhere along the line I realized you can’t always trust what an anonymous person writes on a website. Now.. I have grown, matured, and realized any home at UCF would be a GREAT one. I’ve seen some of my best friends go to other campuses and join chapters of all “tiers” and reputations and none of them could be any happier with the choices they made. And now it’s my turn! I really think I owe the women of Greek Chat a huge thanks, you have prepared me in every way, from knowing to get recommendations to etiquette. And to thank them I want to do something a little out of the ordinary in recent recruitment seasons. Despite advice, I am going to write an honest recruitment thread without giving much thought to discretion, and promise to post a pseudo name/ real name list of the chapters after bid day. I know a lot of women will think this can hurt my recruitment. But I assure you I have the upmost respect for the Panhellenic women of UCF, and have no reason to disrespect any of them. I believe I can be honest without being rude or hurtful. I love reading the stories from years past that revealed all. They were the most helpful, relatable, believable, rush stories on Greek Chat and I don’t understand why we can’t all be like that! So on that note, I obviously go to UCF, GO KNIGHTS! They are home to ten wonderful chapters: Alpha Delta Pi Alpha Xi Delta Alpha Epsilon Phi Chi Omega Delta Delta Delta Kappa Alpha Theta Kappa Kappa Gamma Kappa Delta Pi Beta Phi Zeta Tau Alpha In no order, coded with my School Supplies code names (lame I know, but I’m a little nostalgic for the days of getting excited about school shopping): Scissors Glue Paint Markers Paper Pencils Folders Binders Crayons Backpack I really hope you can enjoy my story, and that I can make all of you who have offered me help proud. Thanks for reading! |
Yay i'm so excited for you. A good friend of mine is a recruitment counselor there. :)

Woo hoo! I'm excited for this story. Good luck!! I'm glad you were able to see the truth throughout the year at UCF rather than believing silly websites!

Sorry to not update when we actually started recruitment yesterday, but we basically just had an hour long meeting that told us what we would do all week and met our Rho Gamma’s mine is insanely awesome and I am pretty excited to be with her and see which chapter she belongs to Saturday.
On to today.. we would be spending 25 minutes at each of the 10 sororities. In the morning we met up and wasted no time learning the entry song for the first house (you have to sing back in forth before you “earn” your way in, way fun and a little unexpected) My first house was Scissors. I had a class with a few of these girls and know about their philanthropy and involvement. They were one of the houses I had most looked forward to seeing. I was double rushed by one girl and then bumped to another. Both were very nice and we could talk but I didn’t feel a strong pull towards them. Next was Glue. I didn’t have a huge impression of these girls, good or bad, before coming into recruitment. They were a very pleasant surprise. They had so much energy for it to only be 10ish in the morning and their songs were so cute. I was placed with one girl who I felt very natural with and was later bumped to another. They both told me I was making their job so easy and we chatted about school, football, shopping, and dresses. I left excited to see this house again. After that was Paint. My best friend is a Paint at another campus and I know she loves it, but based solely on today I don’t feel great about them. I was again double rushed and even though I can easily talk and make conversation, my rusher seemed much more focused on the other PNM. We took a tour of their house which was cool and then moved on. Markers was probably the house I was most excited to see just because I could expect to see a familiar face. Even though I wanted to see my friend I didn’t expect to fit in with this house. When we began chanting I was SHOCKED how loud they were. This house had so much energy and excitement. They all looked great and I was excited to start this party. I was bumped between four girls, which I don’t know if that is a bad sign (?), but I loved all of them. They were fun and genuine and I didn’t want to leave. Paper. This house was very homey and the girl I was matched with was cute and friendly and we got along well. Nothing spectacular, but nice. My rusher did try to talk religion a little and it put me off but I still have a positive view of this house. Pencils. I know this house is very new to UCF and are smaller than others due to age but most of us were triple rushed and it was very hard. The house looked great and the girls seemed nice, but at the end of the day I feel I didn’t know my rusher and she didn’t know me. Folders. This was a house I was pretty excited about and had to sike myself back up for since it was 2:30ish by now and beginning to rain. The girl I was matched with seemed nice and funny at first. We talked about the weird smell in the house (it belongs to a fraternity) and had some laughs over it but she soon took the convo to one of the 3 B’s and it just made me uncomfortable. We stayed friendly and kept up convo until the end of the party. Backpack. Not much to say, they were very nice and I really enjoyed them. I met two sisters and look forward to seeing them again but nothing amazing happened here today. Binders. My rusher at this house was obviously exhausted and had a hard time making or keeping conversation. I tried but wasn’t much help. It was pretty awkward. She bumped me to a girl I liked and made a point to come back and say bye. Even so, I just couldn’t see myself there. Last was Crayons. It seemed every girl going through wanted Crayons and I could see why. When we entered the house the girls are gorgeous and personable. My rusher seemed so genuine and we never had awkward breaks in our conversation. She then took me on a tour of the house, which is gorgeous, and we continued talking. By the time we were done the party was over. It was nice because I learned a lot about her, but I left wondering if she learned about me? We then left and met our Rho Gammas and headed to the Comp Lab to do our first “Cut with Interest”. I had no difficulty, all the chapters had shown me a good time but I just knew which two weren’t for me, so I declined Folders Binders Tomorrow we will be back at 10:15 and will receive our schedules. Over all it was a great day I met so many great girls and am a lot more confident in myself now that the first day is over, but I am a little disappointed. There are tons of gorgeous girls, who through tent talk, sound like they only want my top choices because of their house or looks. I know it will be very hard if these girls get bids to them while I get cut.. but only time will tell. For now I am exhausted. Hopefully I will have enough energy to update again tomorrow! Thanks for reading! |
Keep smiling! Good Luck and keep us posted.:)
|
Glad to hear you're having a good time! Good luck tomorrow! :)
|

ohhhh

there are different interpretations of the 3 (or 4) Bs.
Boys Booze/Bars Bible Bank (how much $ you/your family have) Barack (ok, I just made that one up, but politics probably isn't a good idea right now either) Boob jobs (made that one up just now too, but it certainly fits) |
I consider it
Bible Booze Boys (not boyfriends but name dropping fraternities and their members) Working on an update now :) |
usually politics falls into that group-it was Bible, booze, boys and bush. now it is Bible booze, boys and barack.

So today was Philanthropy day and it was an interesting one. Since UCF has you “regret with interest” chapters that you have cut can pop up on your schedule if other chapters cut you to provide as many as possible with a full schedule, so with that said, I was back at Folders and Binders today as Paint and Scissors cut me:
Paint- Zeta Tau Alpha Scissors- Alpha Delta Pi I was a little confused because I had quite a few recs to Zeta, but honestly I know I didn’t make a connection with either chapter so I moved on and decided to see what today had to bring. First on my list was Crayons. I was happy to be seeing this house while I was fresh since every member is beyond gorgeous! They had a video about a fairly new organization they have been working with and it was so touching. It was something we can all relate to and I was excited to know that a great GLO recognized and helped. My rusher was nice but I felt we didn’t have easy conversation, especially since I LOVED the girl I met yesterday. After that I went to Markers. We got to tour their house and it was adorable. It was pretty great because the member who gave me the tour had been the girl I talked with the most yesterday so we got to avoid the awkward introductory questions. We then switched sisters to work on a craft with while watching a video. My second rusher was great, we sat and talked about family and I left loving the chapter even more. Paper. This house was hard today. I was excited to be there and hope to have more time there, but there house is soooo loud it is hard to carry a conversation. Unfortunately I feel I didn’t leave much of an impression. Folders. I was nervous to visit this house but had a much more positive day. They planned their event in a way that three PNMs talked to three Members and then three more switched them out half way through. Each of these groups included a girl I had spoken with the day before, one being the girl who made me uncomfortable. But I said to myself it’s a new day and had a great time. Not to mention their video made me cry. It was POURING when I left folders so I had to wait to move on to Pencils. Once there I was paired with a great girl. She was nice and informative, but I just can’t feel “right” at this house. They rush hard and it just feels off. Backpack. I was double rushed here and the sister who met us offered us a house tour. She was very kind and did a great job of including me and the other PNM. I think it would be safe to say we both felt comfortable and convo came easy to us. Another sister showed us their craft and conversation wasn’t so easy… Glue. I LOVED MY RUSHER. We were like other halves. Interest, injuries, personality traits, you name it we shared it. We got a long great and for the first time I was disappointed to leave a rusher and our conversation. Binders. Again I just felt uncomfortable. My first rusher was nice, but didn’t initiate of carry much conversation. The girl who covered dues was nice, but I just don’t feel right there. At the end of the day my decision was easy. There were only two houses I just could not feel comfortable, so I cut Pencils and Binders. Tomorrow will be Video Night and Im trying to decide if I am brave enough to wear heels for the first time… |
Great story!! Love it so far, can't wait to see what else is in store for you!
If you do wear heels, bring a pair of sandals to walk to the houses at..You'd hate to be at one end of Greek Park and have to walk to the other side in heels!! I did that going through, 5 years ago! Nightmare, esp in the rain when you want to get to the tents quickly. |
Haha Thanks OTW!
And BellaBerlee, I was swearing all day that my Sperry Topsiders are coming with me tomorrow :) |
I lovvvvve this thread! good luck ucflove!

I'd include another B - Bitchiness. Don't talk nasty about other chapters or complain. How Rude! |
I noticed quite a few of the chapters here double rushed. I was under the impression UCF had large chapters. Are there that many girls going through recruitment?
