HAHA..disappearing threads.

YEA...awesomeness...let's make them disappear and put on a front, making up lies maybe...but let the truth not, and i repeat NOT be known, lord knows that would be horrible.

Lil_G 10-07-2001 07:24 PM

Holy harry hoodini...i thought there was some disappearing acts around here but wasn't sure...

KSig RC 10-07-2001 07:36 PM

Yeah . . . can we get an explanation of where these threads go? I'd enjoy knowing . . . also, why were they closed/removed?

Can we get a rundown of why threads are closed, each time it happens? (bucutie, zetaace?)

bucutie02 10-07-2001 10:01 PM

Zetace and I have been receiving complaints about a few topics and replies. Therefore, if you posted something and ask to delete it we will gladly do it. When we close a thread it goes into a list of archieves and so do the deleted ones i believe. Anyway, we only close/delete topics and/or posts that we think are in appropriate or by choice of whoever posted. I will check with Zetace, but i dont think any have just "disappeared" with no reason behind it.

AGDLynn 10-07-2001 10:10 PM

Delete responses

I know that it would probably be time-consuming but it would definitely help with posters (or maybe moderators (smile)), would delete multiple responses from the posters that are exactly the same...sure would save time on reading...like the thread on What Chapter are you from!

Thanks anyway. Y'all do a great job!!:D

bucutie02 10-07-2001 10:16 PM

i dont know if some members know this or not, but you can delete your own post. What the moderators can do is delete and close threads. I guess if you see that your posts posted 4 times, then it would be nice to delete the extra 3. :)

damasa 10-07-2001 10:20 PM

Well, to be truthful, i didn't see anything wrong with the "beer is gross" post. I mean..we can talk about hazing and that sort of stuff..but not beer? I just don't get it. And we didn't see any warning as to why it's gone. As for replies...I haven't seen anything offensive either....some joking and kidding around, but if that sort of thing is deleted, that is limiting a person and their ability to speak their mind.

SSS1365 10-07-2001 10:43 PM

I know that I have made some posts that have disappeared, and I really can't see how they could be inappropriate. I wasn't happy about it cuz it was like a slap in the face that someone deleted my posts for no apparent reason. I'm sure this has happened to other people too.

bucutie02 10-07-2001 11:06 PM

First off i didnt say that i deleted or closed a reply in the beer thread. I agree that a person has the right to speak their own mind, and i think Zetace and I have done an okay job of letting you guys express your opinions in chit chat.

Second of all, i havent deleted or closed any threads. I will email Zetace and ask her if she did. Otherwise, we will look into it and see what happened.

bucutie02 10-07-2001 11:14 PM

i just talked to Zetace and she did in fact send me email telling me she had deleted it. The person who started the thread wanted it deleted for her own personal reason. Zetace and I respected her decision and now the thread is deleted. It was no one's fault, like i said, the person who started wanted it deleted!

Lil_G 10-08-2001 03:31 AM

I geuss who ever started it was hammed at the time and didn't want anyone to think she didn't like alcohol when in fact she's a lush...

AGDLynn 10-08-2001 10:04 AM

Delete your Thread

I know that it's in the rules/instructions, but maybe the moderators could put a "note" at the top of all discussion pages about please delete multiple posts. :) :)

The1calledTKE 10-08-2001 10:13 AM

Who cares if the thread are deleted. Its not really our board we just post here. There are tons of post we can reply to who cares if we lose a couple?

damasa 10-08-2001 11:09 AM

obviously you don't...while others do..so it's not the "we" is it?

thought not.

Dejajeva 10-08-2001 11:53 AM

Let's play nice, boys.

ZetaLuvBunny 10-08-2001 01:07 PM

I asked for the post to be deleted because someone brought it to my attention that someone that knows me might happen to see the post. Although I don't understand why it would be a big deal, I did that just to be on the safe side, you know? Thanks for your concern, though.

The1calledTKE 10-08-2001 01:10 PM

Well if missing posts ruins your day and make you feel bad, then I guess I will support you in wanting to know why the posts are missing. I was wrong to assume everyone should not care. Lets just say personally that I don't care if certain posts are removed because the moderators are just doing the job John assigned them. I don't take anything that happens on the net that seriously. But I am sorry, you do have free speech so you can ask away why they are gone.

Tom Earp 10-08-2001 05:31 PM

DELETE?

I am sure knowing the Mods as we are known, are getting their chops busted for deleting a selected threads!!!!

I have never Deleteted a Thread and hope I dont!!!

BUT, if it gets to OBNOXIOUS! It can and will be deleted!!!

Even We as Moderators are torn whether to delete a thread or not!

You Fellow Chatters are just like us, and if some get so offensive, as you know, each of and some of you have asked to have something taken off! DO NOT READ AND POST

It better be rank before I suggest it be taken off but I will DROP the HAMMER like all the rest if have enuff complaints!

If you want to BITCH to much, start your own and do the work as John has as it can be a full time job! FULL TIME!!!!!

I have been normal for 6 days and trying to edit and make people understand and I am going nuttsier!!!!!!

So KSig R C this is for you, $%#^(#&#&^@*^@^*(@&*(@&*( I may be back on normal wave length soon!!!!!:D

Maybe this is a bit off-topic, but I've noticed several threads started in recent weeks that are duplicates of those that already existed.
For instance, the favorite drinks thread. We started one months ago that I don't believe was closed. All this points to is that people should be doing a thorough search of the forums.

Thrillhouse 10-08-2001 07:09 PM

Yep you are correct. There is already a favorite drinks thread. There have been many topics posted in this forum but by doing a search, someone might find their topic is already being discussed in another thread. Good call :)

Lil_G 10-08-2001 07:11 PM

Okay, if you notice many of the ppl starting these threads are newcomers to gc and probably haven't mastered the search function yet. I don't know about anyone else, but i don't like starting up a conversation that ended months ago in which many of those users aren't around anymore.

Yes..just a Lil_G stated, many of these reposts are from newer users that may have not been around for a while, or haven't learned how to use gc that well yet. Furthermore, even if these topics had been posted months before, does that mean we can't talk about them again? I talk about the same stuff all the time.....and I know many other do too, it's what makes conversation....

I loop myself a lot, but I remember to do a search to make sure that the topic already exists and bring it back up to the top. I guess my attitude comes from the fact that my favorite forum isn't too keen on repeat posts.

Dejajeva 10-09-2001 04:26 PM

Thank you, LIl_G and Blaine.

I was yelled at hardcore, my first EVER post- for not doing a search- by a moderator.
I was really insulted and I felt stupid too. How was I supposed to know there was a search function.

!!!!!

How To Do A Search

For any newcomer who doesn't know how to perform a search in order to find out if a topic has already been discussed in a previous thread, here's how:

Look at the top of the Greek Chat page (any page) and you will see several blue buttons. They are "User CP", "Register", "Calendar", "Members", "F.A.Q.", "SEARCH", and "Home."

Click on the Search button and you will find several ways in which to perform a search on GC. You can search by Keyword or User Name, and you can also limit your search to a particular date or forum. It's really simple once you get familiar with it, and with the new GC format that has been implemented in the past few weeks it's easier than ever to find things (and quicker too!)

Hope this helps!

Oh, one more thing, the buttons at the top of GC pages have a lot of information inside. I would recommend that all GCers, new and old, take some time to check them out. Learning how those buttons work helps you navigate through GC more easily and, also, may introduce you to some new functions that you may not know GC offers. :)

Happy searching!

Carrie :D
