Fall '09 Recruitment Story

HELLO! I am going to be participating in fall recruitment as a sophomore at school with a competitive recruitment. Recruitment begins in 8 days and I am very excited and am going in with an open mind! I figured I would share my story with all of you and am going to name the chapters after colors (boring I know!)

Brown
Silver
Yellow
Teal
Forrest Green
Pink
Navy Blue
Orange
Red
Black
Magenta
Baby Blue
Gray
Purple
Lime Green
Brick red

I Obviously lack creativity with my colors :p but I can't wait to share my story and hope that all goes well!

AlphaFrog 08-08-2009 08:40 AM

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY FROM NOW ON.

I bet there are at least 25 ladies who already know exactly which school you are talking about just from this first post.

If you talk about your outfits, stay vague (ie colorful Sundress as opposed to Lilly Pulitzer Tenley Shift).

If you talk about events, stay vague (ie something funny/embarrassing happened at Blue - NOT OMG! This girl at Blue totally dropped the punch bowl and it spilled all over this PNM's Jimmy Choos.)

You get the idea. You can give us a brief outline as you rush, and then come back and fill in the details after bid day.:)

Tropical_Dancer 08-08-2009 10:02 AM

I agree with AlphaFrog this is the first story I have ever guessed, well that is if I guessed right.

Anyway, I'm rooting for purple and baby blue! :)

jennyj87 08-08-2009 10:14 AM

I never guess correctly and have actually made some really boneheaded silly guesses and I think I guessed this one correctly. So, yes, be discrete for your own good.

Good luck! I hope it turns out just the way you want.

court4short 08-08-2009 12:34 PM

Go baby blue and lime green!

Good luck, hun.

foreverinpink 08-08-2009 12:46 PM

Best of luck to you! Go Pink and Magenta!:)

CougarGrad 08-08-2009 03:58 PM

I agree with some of our fellow posters- be aware of what you post from now on, even though some of us (points at self) don't know where you go to school. Be excited and enjoy yourself during recruitment! Good luck!

twinkle555 08-08-2009 05:01 PM

I vote for TEAL or PURPLE!

HeavenslilAngel 08-15-2009 01:46 AM

co-sign on being discrete. Go Purple, red and orange!!!!

minDyG 08-15-2009 07:58 PM

Y'all scared her out of posting her story live. :) And I was so interested.

It hasn't started yet.

minDyG 08-15-2009 11:27 PM

Oh. Just kidding. I am really bad at math.

txchrissy 08-16-2009 07:19 AM

I thought the same thing. Does anyone know when she startes recruitment?

F50437 08-16-2009 07:42 AM

I suspect that there is one meeting tonight and that recruitment starts tomorrow.

F50437 08-16-2009 07:56 AM

Dear Bethechange--No one knows enough to know exactly the school you go to--many recruitments start tonight. Also no one can be completely sure as to which sororities you're discussing with your colors. But the wonderful women on this site probably have good advice for you if you continue your story. Remember at most SEC schools recruitment for Sophomores is more competitive than for Freshmen. But wonderful sororities DO take Sophomores.

Maybe I'm making a false assumption, I apologize if I'm wrong...but I see that this is only your second post here. Although you registered a year ago, maybe you have not visited enough to know that actually MANY veterans on this site can figure out what schools PNMs are talking about simply based on recruitment dates and the number of sororities. So the advice of being discrete from here on out is GREAT advice.

I myself haven't figured it out the school, but if I wanted to, I could probably do so in a fairly short amount of time.

Also, I don't think the OP has been scared off...I'd imagine she's just been too busy to post with recruitment starting and all! :) Good luck!

bethechange 08-16-2009 12:06 PM

Hello everyone! First of all thank you for all the good lucks! I have not been scared off I have just been super busy moving into my new apartment and such. I think I am finally all settled. We have a meeting tonight and then recruitment starts tomorrow. I am really excited for the week to come and I know it will be a tough but amazing experience, no matter what happens. I will see if I can post after the meeting if not then wish me luck and I will post tomorrow after the first day of parties!

jennyj87 08-16-2009 07:13 PM

Good luck and I LOVE your user name.

Tropical_Dancer 08-17-2009 01:36 PM

Good luck today on your first parties :)

bethechange 08-18-2009 02:06 AM

WOAH. Recruitment was crazy today. It was a long day but definitly a lot of fun, I met so many wonderful women. I'm really tired and I have to be up early so I will just give you a brief rundown.

Teal! I didn't know what to expect and was kind of nervous but the girl that I met was amazing and the house was beautiful. I really enjoyed this house.

Brown. I love their philanthropy and I talked to two different girls and they were both pretty easy to talk to.

Navy Blue. I have a friend in this house so I know a little bit about them. I didn't feel a very strong connection here but I still think it is a beautiful house with gorgeous women.

Pink. The first girl that I talked to I didn't feel a connection with, there were a lot of gaps in the conversation but the second girl was really nice and we actually play the same sport so that was nice.

Purple. I know 5 or 6 girls in this house and one of them was actually paired with me! I already knew that I really liked this chapter and today confirmed my feelings, the house is beautiful and the girls seem like a lot of fun!

Baby Blue. I had a great conversation with this girl we had a lot in common. I definitly felt comfortable here. It also wasn't as loud as the other houses.

Black. I loved this house as well. I talked to three different girls and they were all super nice and easy to talk to.

Orange. I also have a friend here. The girls seem nice however I am not sure if I can see myself here but I'm definitly keeping an open mind.

Overall it was a long but amazing day. I honestly loved all the chapters and they all had something that I liked. I'm excited for tomorrow to see the rest of the chapters!

AlphaFrog 08-18-2009 05:29 AM

^^^ This is the way to tell a LIVE recruitment story on GC. Enough details that we know if you liked your visit or not, but not enough to give anything away. Plus, it looks like you really are keeping an open mind.

Is it just me, or did we get a smarter/more savvy group of PNMs this year on GC? :)

ASUADPi 08-18-2009 09:04 AM

I am rooting for purple and blue (me fave colors :D)

good luck

I think its just some PNMs who actually read the stickies, and other threads, take heed of the advice given.

Good luck Bethechange!

COBaby 08-18-2009 10:17 AM

Yay! An actual live recruitment thread!

Good luck :)

Meow190 08-18-2009 04:08 PM

I like that you found something nice to say about everyone, I try to be the same way. I figure if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Best of luck to you! I'll be going through this in a few weeks, so I feel for you!

qbt1990 08-18-2009 05:37 PM

good luck and have fun!

Round one is over! It was definitly fast paced and exsauhsting but absolutly amazing at the same time. I loved meeting all the different chapter women and where I could see myself.

Silver- Loved this house. I got to talk to four women all of whom seem down to earth. The house itself is so cute and we got to see the rooms upstairs that were absolutely adorable.

Yellow- The woman who rushed me was really nice and we had some friends in common however I didn't feel entirely at ease at this house. It may be due to the fact that it was so loud in there, definitly the loudest out of all of them it was very hard to hear!

Magenta - Gorgeous house filled with gorgeous women. I had a pretty good conversation here but there were some gaps in the conversation. I feel like this is a house where I would feel the need to always look perfect however I really did love their philanthropy.

Forrest Green- This is another beautiful house. I had a good conversation her and their skit was really cute. Love this philanthropy as well.

Lime green- loved this house too! It started raining while we were lined up outside and the poor girls had to come out in the rain to get each of us! The girl I talked to was an absolute sweetheart and I have a friend in this house who absolutely loves her sisters!

Gray - This house I talked to two girls, the first was really hard to talk to but the second was so easy! I'm also unsure if I can see myself here.

Brick red- I also know a girl in this house. The women here seem super intelligent and like they have a great sisterhood.

Red - This was one of my favorite conversations. The girl was so easy to talk to and we got to talk about more than the standard questions that we are usually asked. The house is gorgeous and the girl that I know here absolutely loves it!

So I had to narrow it down from 16 to 11 and then rank my five alternates. My alternates were
1. Baby Blue
2. Brick Red
3. Yellow
4. Orange
5. Gray

I am so anxious to see what my schedule is tomorrow. I am hoping to get a lot of sleep tonight I have to be up at 5 am! !

BlueCarnation 08-18-2009 10:45 PM

Thanks for the update. Good luck!

Hmmm Im changing my vote and rooting for LIME GREEN.... Thanks for the update..good luck tomorrow!

P.S- I love your username..its my lil sis's motto this week (she is the recruitment chair).

bethechange 08-19-2009 10:22 PM

So today was an emotional roller-coaster to say the least! I was only invited back to 6 of the chapters, most of which were ones that I didn't initially feel a strong connection with. I was invited back to:
Brown
Pink
Baby Blue
Forrest Green
Gray
Brick Red

I was cut from:
Teal
Navy Blue
Purple
Black
Orange
Silver
Yellow
Magenta
Lime Green (sorry twinkle555)
Red

The cut that was the worse for me to handle was purple since I know so many of the girls and one of my friends rushed me! It also didn't help that almost everyone got asked back here. But eventually (after half the day had passed) I realized I needed to move on!

SO.....

Gray: I had a pretty good conversation but I felt like I had to work really hard for it. While this house is great and has an amazing philanthropy I still don't feel at home here.

Brick Red: Talked to two girls here both pretty good flowing conversations. This house is a possibility for me.

Pink: While I love this house and have had some good conversations I can't help but feel like something is missing here but I am still looking forward to learning more about them.

Then I had lunch and was honestly considering leaving. I was still caught up on purple and was in a real funk however with encouragement from one of my friends who rushed last year and dropped (and now regrets it) I decided to stick it out and I am really glad that I did!

Brown- This is one of the biggest shocks to me thus far, I had no idea how much I would LOVE this house. The girls are so down to earth and easy to talk to, I love their philanthropy, and their house is gorgeous! Definitly hoping to be invited back.

Baby Blue- Had 2 really good conversations here, I'm still unsure weather I can truly see myself here but I do really like the house.

Forrest Green- So yesterday I was kind of iffy about this house, I have made a complete 180! I LOVE IT! The girls are so pretty and sweet and their philanthropy is so amazing. I also definitly want an invite here too!

So we had to pick top 7 and since I only had 6 I wrote them all down. I hope tomorrow goes really well!!!!!

KD4Me 08-19-2009 11:48 PM

Good luck! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. So glad that you decided to stick it out.

jennyj87 08-20-2009 01:00 AM

well since purple went bye bye... I hope you get FORREST GREEN.

twinkle555 08-20-2009 01:37 AM

oh bummmer!! well..GO PINK!

HeavenslilAngel 08-20-2009 01:40 AM

Go Brick Red!!!!
