Did you get your first choice sorority?
I just wondered what the breakdown would be -
Thanks, this should be fun!
Yes and no. Probably more yes than no. (Yes as in, I got my first choice)
I say this because "first choice" doesn't necessarily mean first choice on your preference card. Many PNMs get cut from a chapter that they considered their first choice before preference. When I went through, I was enamored with one chapter and they cut me before preference. I did cry, I was upset, but I also got over it pretty quickly. After going to all of my preference parties, I knew I could find my home in any of the chapters that invited me back. I ranked Sigma Kappa first, so yes I did get my first choice and I was psyched to be there on bid day. ETA my recruitment story |
I was thinking "first choice from among your pref. parties" - sorry for any confusion. But I guess it works either way - however you wish to interpret it.

Do you want non-formal recruitment girls to answer? I mean, I was a COB girl so I only rushed one sorority, and I got a bid. So technically, I got my first choice, lol.
Sure - the more the merrier. If you want to explain a bit, do. I thought it would be interesting for pnms to see the range of experiences we've had.
eta - As of now, it's 50/50 between first choice and non-first choice but it worked out GREAT. |
Option number 2 here. If you want more details, read my recruitment story here.
Smile Awhile I love you're recruitment story. Its one of my favorites :)
I'm excited to see how this turns out!

And I voted same as you VP |
My first and only choice! :) Hooray COB!
I did get my first choice, but in retrospect - and as much as I bleed azure blue & white! - I think I would have also been content with my second choice. My Retro Recruitment thread is here. Also, had I gotten my second choice, I would have transferred to the school where I had a major scholarship, and hoped I could have affiliated there.
No complaints, though! :D |
Where's the "it's a long story" option? :)
Long story short, I went through NPC sorority rush, dropped out before prefs, and rushed and pledged a local sorority. A couple of years later, my local became a chapter of AEPhi. |
I did not get my first choice.
I liked another sorority on my campus (ADPi) because I felt that the girls there matched with me more academically and goals-wise, and I felt I fit in socially at Pi Phi. Looking back, I think I made the wrong choice, and am incredibly happy that my second choice got me! It was really close when I was deciding, and I almost flipped a coin to decide. |
I preffed AXO and Sigma Kappa, I wanted SK all the way thorugh. Come pref night I met a snobby girl that was a friendemy of a friend outside SK and thought I don't want to be with her for the next 4 years. I ranked AXO, SK. Didn't get my first choice. I was sad at first, but got over that quick and loved my maroon and lavender ribbons! I love my 4 years and now advise for a chapter. And that girl, well she decided that greek life wasn't for her a few weeks in.
ETA: That was a bad reason obviously not to choose a sorority I wanted all the way. There was more to the story, but it all worked out in the end. I loved AXO pref so that played a part. :-) I was 17 at that time, maybe a little shallow. |
I got my first choice. It was my first choice going in and my first choice the whole way through. I had heavy cuts, but it didn't matter because the girls I wanted wanted me!
I got my first choice, but I would have loved my second-which was the smallest chapter on campus. We preffed 3 houses on my campus. I looked at everything when I was rushing-both locally and nationally. My choice to rank came down to the mascot because both chapters were tied. I am in the right place though-no doubt about it 17 years later.

Ha! Yes...but it was my only choice by the end. It worked out for me very well, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
COB, but it was definitely a choice by me. I was approached by one org on campus, but I had an off feeling about them. Of course I knew nothing at the time about how informal recruitment was supposed to go or I might have done things differently. I researched all the sororities on campus, decided which one was right for me on a national level, and arranged to meet some of the members to see if the chapter would be a good fit. I had lunch with TPA85 and the woman who would later be my big. They were fabulous! I had a couple great meetings with the chapter as a whole before they voted me in--after they had already done the initial ceremony, but they held another one just for me. Which, by the way, was terrifying. Thank God I didn't have to do any other rituals alone. I thought I was going to faint in front of the president.
it was DDD all the way for me. :D
Of course, this is a completely unscientific survey - I would assume that most members of GreekChat would have had a successful recruitment, be it formal or COB. Still, I find it interesting - 70% got their first choice, roughly 25% thought their results worked out GREAT, and aprox. 5% thought it worked out okay.
I voted yes.
I got my first choice, which had been my first choice for like 3 months. I never really considered anything else. Of course, I had NO IDEA what I was doing during rush, and it ended up being my ONLY choice, but I didn't really care. Someday (after all the fake retro stories have died down a bit) I may tell the story, as it is, like so many, a great story about how not to do rush. I was an idiot when I was a freshman.
They were my first choice from Day 1. I could have enjoyed being in my #2, but on Pref Card Night, I suicided. I just didn't want to risk it. Looking back, that was probably stupid of me because I could have ended up in NO sorority, but at the time I did not care.
My story's kind of embarrassing now, because my school had a fraternity-esque rush at the time, so some girls from my dorm floor and I went to a couple of parties for free food--the parties were advertised as "make your own salad" and "make your own sundae." I hadn't really thought about sororities beforehand, being completely clueless, but I had such a great time with the sundae girls that I kept coming back.
Nothing against the salad ladies, though, or the third sorority I never even visited. |
After Round 1 and 2, Alpha Gam was my number 2 choice out of 18 and 10 chapters. I was cut from my number 1 after the second round. After 3 and 4, they were my first choice, but I would have been happy with my second choice at Pref. I definitely never would have fit in at my third choice.
Another COB here! I was in love with one sorority, and am very happy with my bid :)
I enjoy reading recruitment stories, though. Formal recruitment sounds very stressful! |
Alpha Phi was the only house I wanted to join from the first day of rush and I'm glad they liked me as much as I liked them!
As far as my pref houses, yes, I did get my number 1, and I was totally thrilled on bid day. I KNOW I could have been happy in my number 2 though, they HAD been my #1 until skit round (which was the round immediately before pref)
COB here, but I chose the second option...I went through rush and pledging for a local on my campus, dropped 3 weeks before my class got in, and then did COB with another chapter and SDT (checked both out) and was offered a bid to SDT and 6+ years later here I am with the most amazing sisters one could ask for!
Yes :)
I guess I am technically in my second choice. I was a COB girl but had been told if I went through formal I would get a bid to my first choice. I decided to look at COB just to see what the sorority girls were like, and found I loved and still love DG.
Alpha Phi was my first choice from day one, so I was thrilled to open my bid day card to find them on there. I also preffed DG, I think I would've been happy there but they had some 'reputation issues' throughout my 4 years at school.
Can anyone tell me how the recruitment process goes? Do you write down your choices then they pick? This is my first time going through recruitment and I want to make sure I know what I am doing when I first go in there.

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=54403 In general, you are NOT just writing down choices, it is a MUTUAL selection process. |
I knew I wanted Sigma Kappa from day one, and I was so glad when I opened my bid card and saw their name!
I absolutely got my first choice and never regretted it for a moment!
I think I would have been okay with my second choice but later on when I was a senior I looked at that other house and their membership was no longer so swell. |
Mine's another long story. (And I don't know how to add a link to it.) But I voted Yes since the question was based on who you Preffed. :)
