GI Joe the movie

I'm just curious to know does it start at midnight? I know The Transformers did. If not, I guess this could be an early thread about the movie since it starts tomorrow.

perfectinpurple 08-06-2009 06:40 PM

Here there is a 12:01 am showing if that helps you out!

cheerfulgreek 08-06-2009 06:46 PM

I went online to see if there was one showing here, but I didn't see anything listed yet.

AOII_LB93 08-06-2009 07:38 PM

My husband and I want to see this, but I'm just expecting a bad movie...is that sad or what?

DrPhil 08-06-2009 07:40 PM

I have already decided to wait for dvd.

I love GI Joe and I hope they do it justice. I'm not too keen on Marlon Wayans in this movie.

Psi U MC Vito 08-06-2009 08:30 PM

Supposedly he was cast because he did a drama role in another movie and did ok. It looks interesting, though I'm not sure about the suits.

moe.ron 08-06-2009 09:39 PM

going to watch it over the weekend. have a low expectation of it though.

MysticCat 08-06-2009 10:08 PM

It all makes me feel so, so old. I still have my old GI Joe (or my son does) -- back from the days when he was just a basic soldier. I had a little Army footlocker and equipment to go with him.

cheerfulgreek 08-07-2009 02:35 AM

I just got back from seeing it. Dumbest movie I've ever seen in my entire life. I didn't know it was starting @ midnight, because I didn't see it listed. My friend called me and asked me if I wanted to go see with her. It was so dumb, she fell asleep and so did I (off and on)

A must see.......NOT!

Oh, and Duke talked like he was from a trailer park, and that Damond Wayons guy (whatever his name is) was more like a GI Lamo.

GI JOE....Yo Joe!.....:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

eta: GI JOE Yo nooooooooooo!! lol

PeppyGPhiB 08-07-2009 02:48 AM

It is never a good sign when the studio refuses to screen the movie for critics.

True and I recall this happening before. Does anyone remember which movies haven't been screened for critics in the last 5 or so years? How'd those movies turn out?

*************
I vaguely remember cheerfulgreek slamming another movie that a lot of people were either looking forward to or liked. :p I wish she hadn't fallen asleep so she could give more details of the suckiness. How was Marlon Wayans AT LEAST?

I found a link to some films in the past year as the author said he couldn't find a full list for the past, but he didn't mention 1995's Waterworld. I think there's a pattern since I only recognized four titles.

See a nifty list and article at http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/08/04/...ionwide-press/

Film reader Ian F decided to do some extra work and add box office gross to the graph, in an effort to see if not being screened for critics hurt or helped these films. I would argue that you would need to see a comparison between comparable reviewed films that were screened for press to get an accurate read out. But who has the time to put together such a report? Not me. Here are Ian’s findings: http://www.slashfilm.com/wp/wp-conte...82-550x335.jpg

DrPhil 08-07-2009 08:08 AM

Thanks. :)

Of the movies on that list that I saw, I only liked Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.

jojapeach 08-07-2009 08:20 AM

I saw "Madea Goes to Jail", and I liked it. I might have liked "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans", but like I said, I'm not so much a movie buff that I can't wait for the DVD or cable release.

agzg 08-07-2009 08:26 AM

I'm sure I'll be wasting part of my weekend watching this movie because Live-in has been looking forward to it.

Hmmm... maybe he can watch GI Joe and I can watch Julie and Julia.

APhi Sailorgirl 08-07-2009 09:17 AM

DH and I go to the $5 before noon movies on the weekends. It's not so bad to sit through really bad movies when you've only paid $5. Thankfully I don't think he wants to see this one.

I keep getting the Wayans mixed up. They're not funny to me because I don't get their jokes. Adding Marlon to the movie just made it even more of a joke. I just didn't see the purpose of putting him in it. I was hoping for a more serious movie with a mixture of Platoon/Full Metal Jacket, Top Gun, and James Bond all mixed into one movie.

AGDee 08-08-2009 01:08 PM

Well, my 13 year old son saw it and loved it. He said it was as good as Transformers. But, that's a 13 year old boy perspective I guess. I probably won't see it, but it's not my usual type of movie anyway.

Psi U MC Vito 08-08-2009 03:24 PM

Well I'm off to see it. I'll let you guys know what I think.

FSUZeta 08-08-2009 03:49 PM

well, since our son is working at an out of state camp this summer, i have been forced to attend movies with my husband that i would never choose to see. transformers was one of them, & had i smuggled a brick into the movie in my purse, i would have spent the movie hitting myself in the head with it. i think from the reviews my husband has read that i will be able to skip this one.

but psi u, please let me know what you think.

Psi U MC Vito 08-08-2009 06:43 PM

Well I'm back. Story sucks, and the acting sucks. Great action scenes though. Definitely a guy movie.

Did you like it?

eta: lol we posted at the same time. Oh yeah, and I forgot about how crappy the acting was.

Psi U MC Vito 08-08-2009 06:51 PM

I hated the ending as well. OMG that was line of the worst cliffhangers I ever seen.

AGDee 08-08-2009 09:45 PM

Shortly after I posted, my son was raving about how good it was again. He said "We'll have to buy that DVD" I informed him that everybody on greekchat was ripping on it. He thinks y'all are crazy! LOL

lol

(in my deep cobra voice) "I will call you Destro and you will call me Commanderrrrrr!"...........

Psi U MC Vito 08-08-2009 10:26 PM

still I love the line

"Say yes, he's a real american hero." Brought back so many memories.

moe.ron 08-08-2009 11:05 PM

Going to go against the grain and say I liked it. It's a fun, no brain, loud explosion, cheesy lines movie. I expected nothing more and received nothing more.

Psi U MC Vito 08-08-2009 11:13 PM

Oh I didn't say I didn't like it. If you knew what it was going it in was great.

IlovemyAKA 08-09-2009 10:03 PM

I liked it, but I didn't really like the cartoon as a kid. I only watched it if it was the last one showing. That was also the case with Transformers & Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Still BLUTANG 08-10-2009 01:04 AM

saw it, loved it. if nothing else Lee Byung-hun (storm shadow) was killin' it in that white suit!

LOL, no, we're just all older than the target audience. Your son and those like him are the target audience.

(Okay, we'll maybe we're a little crazy . . . and some of us are way crazy. ;))

RU OX Alum 08-10-2009 11:29 AM

I want to see this but have reservations about it. I might go see it just to be in a nice cool theatre for a couple of hours.

I don't think it will be as good as G.I.Joe: The Movie

hellotracy 08-17-2009 03:22 AM

i saw it yesterday .... good one ..... another summer commercial

Thank you for confirming this. I thought the characters seemed technology heavy from when my brothers were into them.

It was okay. I went to see it with Andy yesterday-mostly because we don't have AC and it was hot. I'd put it on the same level as Transformers or Iron Man. It didn't suck, but you get what you get and don't expect anything more.

asd1111 09-02-2009 03:08 AM

im kinda like this movie .. eventhough it not as hilarious as transformers.i can't wait 2 watch the 2nd one

irishpipes 09-02-2009 08:40 AM

My 6 year old is furious at me because he is dying to see this and I won't take him because of the rating. Is there bad language or excessive violence?

mccoyred 09-02-2009 08:52 AM

I took my teenagers to see it. I LOVED IT! It was much better than Transformers 2 and Terminator 4.

Definitely THE action movie of the summer.
