Auburn Recruitment

Auburn's sorority recruitment is a short time away. Does anyone have an idea about the number of women who have filled out registration forms?

I was curious to see if the economic situation will impact numbers of pnms in a significant way at a southern university with a strong sorority system.

AnchorAlumna 08-03-2009 08:27 PM

Last I heard (last week), just over 1000. Could be around 1100-1200 - I think that's about the same number as last year.

Auburn

Thank you, Anchor Alumna.

Oh snap.

When Auburn starts, I feel like the recruitment season "kicks off" for us here on GC. Like "opening day" if you will, lol.

Best of luck Auburn ladies.

And get ready recruitment mods, lol.

I'm anxiously watching Auburn's recruitment this year--I wrote a rec for an Ole Miss friend's daughter.

awkward1 08-05-2009 11:45 PM

This year Auburn's recruitment is going to be extra special because all of the NPC sororities have moved into their fabulous new chapter rooms. I have seen several and let me tell you, they are stunning! The whole village where they are located is stunning but what the chapters have done with their rooms is amazing. The PNM's are awfully lucky to be able to see each and every one! One of the really neat features of the chapter rooms is that they all have direct access from outside, no more going through a lobby and down a flight of stairs. The entrances look as beautiful as those of the best sorority houses anywhere! Another feature that is great is that some of the chapter rooms have their own, dedicated stairway to the suite style dorm rooms the floor above. The suites feature a living room, kitchenete, up to 4 bedroms and two bathrooms. It's as good, or even better, than living in a house. I have to say, I am so excited about this because Auburn has a very large and very strong Greek system which has supported each and every sorority on campus. It is about time that Panhellenic is rewarded for running such a great system. This will be the first time in a very long time that sisters and PNM's will be able to comfortably fit into a chapter room during rush. If I get a chance to take some pictures I will.

Yee-haw! Do you know how many women are registered for Ok State? Hope they have a great time. There are some wonderful chapters at OSU with the oldest ones celebrating their 90th year on campus this year... KD's Nu chapter, Theta's Beta Zeta chapter and Phi Phi's Oklahoma Beta are all turning 90 this year.

Re: Auburn. The suites sound wonderful. Hope we hear some happy ending recruitment stories this season. The Auburn KD chapter received the highest chapter award at national convention in June, so I'm sure they are going into recruitment with a lot of energy.

awkward1 08-06-2009 08:45 AM

The KD chapter room is beautiful, they did a wonderful job with it. I will be back on the Plains this weekend and will take some pictures for you all to see. Another Auburn tradition that is changing this year is that Bids will not be handed out at the amphitheater :( but will be moved to a location closer to the new village. Previously, the bids arrived at the amphitheater via a parade of trucks full of cheering Panhellenic women who distribute the bids to the Rho Chi's. I'm hoping that they still are able to keep this tradition inthe new location.

AuburnMom08 08-06-2009 11:27 AM

The new sorority dorms at Auburn are fab. I was there last weekend and going again this weekend. All the girls are so proud of them, they were sending out pics even before the rooms were fully finished lol.

How fantastic!! This arrangement sounds perfect, the suites sound amazing (how I would have loved a suite like that when I was in school!), and the photos I saw on the Alpha Xi Delta blog were really impressive. Lucky sororities to have such support at their school. I'm so happy for the Auburn ladies! Best wishes to all of them for a wonderful recruitment!

carnation 08-08-2009 01:48 PM

I wonder if they'll move the Bid Day celebration down there. They have a massive Bid Day that's open to families!

pangirl 08-08-2009 05:24 PM

To the question earlier about Oklahoma State, I'm not sure how many were registered for recruitment, but quota was 49. Hats off to OSU Panhellenic for the outstanding job they, and their university, do during recruitment!

pam713 08-08-2009 10:06 PM

Bid day at Auburn is on the soccer field this year. Bids go out at 10:00 am.

So dumb question...do the girls live in there? If so, how many?

awkward1 08-08-2009 10:22 PM

Pearl - I would have to agree with you! I think the University really outdid themselves here. I believe it demonstrates the degree of support and regard that Auburn University has for it's Greek system.

The girls live above the chapter room on 'The Hall'. In this new Village their rooms are suite styles with common areas and kitchenettes and up to four separate bedrooms and two bathrooms. Some of the chapter rooms have private stairways that lead to The Hall, thus giving even more of an 'ownership' feel. The Hall can usually house the entire sophomore class along with the Chapter officers if it is mandated.

well, it's not a true southern rush if you hair is not either limp or frizzy from the humidity and your makeup is not melting off your face.

ladies, pack a little collapsable umbrella.

carnation 08-09-2009 12:43 PM

Auburn PNMs, if you're reading this--stay cool. Literally and emotionally. Don't compare yourself to the girls around you; everyone will be doing that and what you need to focus on this week is you and your decisions. Be kind to everyone around you, no matter what others are doing, and focus on future sisterhood. If you get cut heavily, particularly after second parties, focus on the invitations you did get and develop friendships at those parties.

God bless you. Good luck and we're all behind you this week. War EAGLE!

Such good advice.

At the end of the day, you can only receive one bid anyway.

So try not to freak out about the number of invites you get.

foreverinpink 08-09-2009 02:58 PM

WOW!!! That is absolutely stunning! I am very jealous right now! Auburn PNMs- Good luck! You have a lot to look forward to!

Awkward1, I am hoping you will keep us updated about Auburn Recruitment, at least generally. I am an alum and love to hear the Auburn stories. (I even like the weather forecasts!)
