Harry Potter's Recruitment at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry

Hi Greek Chat,

If you don't know me, I'm Harry Potter. Some of you may know me as "the boy who lived". But that's a whole different story...so you might want to read the books....

Anyway, I attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I have decided to rush a sorority this fall at school (yeah, I'm a boy..but I'm Harry Potter. I do what I want. Good ol' Voldy tried to off me but didn't, so you think a bunch of sorority chicks are gonna stop me from rushing?). Since I AM Harry Potter and everyone loves reading every little detail of my life and watching it on the big screen, I thought I'd share with you my rush story (it's bound to be a hit, and this time, I'M getting the profits. Screw you JK Rowling!).

I'm currently at Ron Weasley's house (I'm sure you all know him as my ginger chum). He once again rescued me from Privet Drive. Now, rush doesn't actually start until September when we go back to school, but being the dilligent student I am, I have already researched all the sororities on campus and figured out which ones I'm kind of partial to (I know, I know, "keep an open mind").

But here are my initial impressions of the sororities on campus:

Dudley Dursleys:
http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/...er49/duddy.jpg

I happen to know a girl in this sorority from Gryffindor. She is a nice enough girl, not the most popular, but we hung out once or twice before. Because of this, I have seen the girls in her sorority...and while they might be nice enough (like the girl from Gryffindor) I just don't know if I'll fit in here. They have a moderate amount of pride on campus.

Ginny Weasleys:
http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/...49/ginny_l.jpg
I also happen to know a girl in this sorority from working with her (we'll call her Mel). We never hung out, but we're friendly. She was kind of into taking some drugs and pills in high school, so hopefully she's changed. However, from what I can tell, this is definitely the party sorority. I also met another Ginny in one of my classes (we'll call her Jen). We sit near each other and she is SO sweet. I'm kind of sketched out by this sorority for reasons I'm not going to say in case I join (obviously, it would be bad if you found out who it was and I told you bad things about them). MAYBE if I don't join I will tell you, but for now just know I'm a little leary about this group. However, they are the most prominent group on campus. They aren't the biggest (but pretty big) but there are always TONS of girls wearing letters and such.

Luna Lovegoods:
http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/...ter49/LUNA.jpg
I didn't know much about this sorority until school started. They seem to be pretty well put together, and are all gorgeous, yet diverse at the same time. They have the highest GPA on campus which is a plus, too. Also, one of my VERY close friends (we'll call her Amy) at a different school is best friends with a girl in this chapter (we'll call her Brittania). Amy told Brittania about me, so that's cool. Brittania also happens to be in one of my classes, but I don't think she realizes it (she might though, because when the teacher took roll yesterday and I raised my hand..Brittania whispered something to another Luna she was sitting with). Anyway, they seem to have a good amount of pride too.

Hermione Grangers:
http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/...ne_granger.jpg
I think this sorority might be my favorite just off of reasearch (I don't know anyone in it). They all seem to be blondes, though. I hope I'm wrong. Oh, and their colors/mascot happens to be my favorite colors/animal. Just a plus

Minerva McGonagolls:
http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/...49/minerva.jpg
I really have no clue about these girls either, but they aren't so bad from what I can tell. Also, they don't have many chapters near my neck of the woods so I don't know much about the sorority in general. We'll see during rush, I'm excited to meet these girls. They don't seem to be as prominent on campus as some others.

Cho Changs:
http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/...9/chochang.jpg
Before I started reading Greek Chat, I thought this was the ONLY sorority at Hogwarts I wanted to join. They have such a great national reputation, and every Cho Chang I know is classy. They have a wonderful Philanthropy, too, which I'm personally connected to. However, after reading all the threads, I realized I need to keep my options open. Who even knows if I'll click with these girls??? I don't know ANYONE in this chapter of this sorority, so I might not even like them. But in the general scope of things, I am favorable towards this sorority. They also seem to have a pretty diverse group of girls.

Fleur Delacours:
http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/...r49/fleurd.jpg
I didn't know anything about these girls before school started, but they are VERY small. I only have seen ONE girl wearing letters in the past two weeks. Other than that, I don't know anything else.

Moaning Myrtles:
http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/...ningmyrtle.jpg
I originally thought this group was small and struggling because they were the only ones without a website and didn't even have a facebook group (I know, it's lame but true). However, I found out that they have the most members! But, I still have only seen one or two girls wearing letters. Maybe it's just how my classes are, but they don't seem very prominent.

Here are my "rankings" of my initial favorites. I think it will be fun to compare how my rush actually turns out with this list.

1. Hermione Grangers
2. Cho Changs
3. Luna Lovegoods
4. Ginny Weasleys
5. Minerva McGonagolls
6. Dudley Dursleys
7. Moaning Myrtles
8. Fleur Delacours

EDIT: I'm editing this to add some things. First, I changed all my pictures to ones that I'm personally hosting because Barbie got on my case. Here's for you, Barbie. Also, my initial impressions have changed since school started, so I updated some descriptions.

Psi U MC Vito 07-20-2009 12:31 AM

WIN!

court4short 07-20-2009 12:37 AM

hahaha how appropriate

Barbie's_Rush 07-20-2009 02:48 AM

You really ought to host your own photos. Stealing others' bandwidth is uncool.

 Blasphemy!

I refuse to read any further after that remark.

yay!!!!!!!!!!!

lovespink88 07-20-2009 09:22 AM

OMG. YES.

angelove 07-20-2009 10:48 AM

Why would they need rush? Couldn't they just use a sorting hat?

But that wouldn't be mutual selection!

IlovemyAKA 07-20-2009 08:18 PM

Haha. I might follow this & I'm not even a fan of rush stories. :D

unicorn 07-20-2009 08:36 PM

AW SNAP. I can't wait.

HarryPotter 07-20-2009 08:45 PM

Me either...but I think Ron's jealous, the girls won't let him rush.

jojapeach 07-20-2009 11:46 PM

^^^ Bloody hell.

I'm so looking forward to this.

kddani 07-21-2009 06:15 AM

Apparently GC is turning into a fan fiction site...

Emilyzd 07-21-2009 09:53 PM

I'm so looking foward to hearing your story!!! Good Luck!! :)

It's a good thing you have the option to read whatever threads you want and ignore the rest.

DaemonSeid 07-22-2009 11:25 AM

Why are you lying about being at Ron's house??

I just saw it burn down last week!

Kevin 07-22-2009 12:03 PM

Dumbledore dies.

Ha! When the sixth book came out, I went out to dinner with a bunch of friends about a week later. I thought everyone had finished reading it and blurted out that I was sad Dumbledore had died. My friend Michael had not read the book and has not forgiven me to this day. Actually, he probably really hasn't forgiven me because then I got mad and blamed him for not telling me so that I wouldn't ruin the ending for him. See how it was all his fault?!

lovespink88 07-22-2009 01:21 PM

Maybe I should back out of this thread... I'm only on the fourth book (I just got into them this summer) but I had already known Dumbledore dies because of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h05ZQ7WHw8Y

And I know there hasn't been much else said aside from that and apparently the Weasley's house burning down...but now I'm worried that I'll accidentally read to much... crap now I really gotta get moving on these books!

P.S., Has this always been under Chit Chat?

You know, since GC's layout has changed, I don't really notice what forum things are posted in anymore. But I've been avoiding this thread since the first page, so I haven't really been paying attention.

love Chi Delta 07-22-2009 04:04 PM

hahaha i hope you end up with the moaning myrtles!! a struggling house could use a big name to bring them back up!

lil_sunshine 07-22-2009 04:13 PM

I wanna know what the bloody hell the world is coming to when Harry Potter can post on GC about joining a sorority.

I say go for what you feel is in your heart of hearts.....

First of all, I don't understand why this post was moved to Chit Chat. I posted it under SORORITY RECRUITMENT because it's my story about rush! I am a real person (a girl!) going through recruitment in the fall and I still wanted to share my story without ruining my experience (ie. having some find out who I am). Every GCer has always said DISCRETION, DISCRETION, DISCRETION. So this is a legit story about recruitment, which will have a legit ending. Still confused as to why it's in Chit Chat.

Second of all, like jojajpeach said, if you don't like it - don't read it. I can't even tell you how many times I've read GCers saying (in regards to Greek Life) "if you don't like it, don't join it". Same goes for posts. You don't HAVE to read this thread, there are hundreds of other threads. So don't come on here saying you're avoiding this thread, when you're actually clearly reading it and posting on it. And you guys wonder why PNMs are afraid to post on here .

This goes for everyone. I know some people think Harry Potter is stupid. I know some people hate recruitment stories. I know some people hate "stupid PNMs who don't know anything".

Then again, I know some people who like Harry Potter. I know some people who love recruitment stories. I know some people love rooting on PNMs going through rush. These are the people I am writing for - well, and myself as well.

Avod it like the black plague if you don't like it, no skin off my back :D!

ps. Didn't mean to offend anyone or come off rude..but I just had to post what I feel.

To lovespink,

I hope no one else will ruin the other books for you in this thread and hope you can still enjoy it. This thread was not meant to talk about the books because I realize everyone hasn't finished them yet. So, hopefully no more CHIT CHAT about the books ;).
(ps. You really should finish them though, so good!)

christiangirl 07-22-2009 10:09 PM

OMG, this is about to be sooooo good. :D

I was listening to some radio morning show about to drive to work. It was about a week or so after the 6th book came out and the male DJ mentioned something about Dumbledore's death. All of a sudden, it was reeeeaaaalll quiet. You heard a woman fussing at him in a whisper and he whispered back, "I thought everyone knew??? What do we do??" It was quiet for another 10 seconds or so and then cut to a commercial.

HAHA, that is HILARIOUS. Wonder if that guy still has a job? ;)

Psi U MC Vito 07-22-2009 10:36 PM

She did, but it was moved here. I think it was because of how tongue in cheek this was.

lovespink88 07-22-2009 10:39 PM

^^^What the hell. I want to tell myself that you're kidding, but since I know your first spoiler was real, I have a feeling you're not. That's really, really shitty...

ETA: To help avoid all confusion--This post WAS directed at Kevin. In addition to "Dumbledore dies.", he posted another spoiler (at least I think it was, but I haven't made it that far) so I was not happy!! But he has since taken it down.

HarryPotter 07-22-2009 10:48 PM

lovespink88 07-22-2009 10:49 PM

No, not you! Kevin posted something that seemed like it was revealing...but now he's deleted it.

Oh! Ok, I was really confused haha.

No, it's your fault. You should have used Prohibet Spoilerus.

I don't buy it. The real Harry Potter would never claim Privet Drive as his "location" if he could possibly help it. Besides, what are you, 29 now? Going through recruitment at a secondary school? Ginny's gotta love that. :p

Well, I don't think he could. The only other places are Grimmauld Place (he wouldn't go there willingly, reminds him of Sirius)...Arthur's still Secret Keeper for the Burrow and Bill's SK for Shell Cottage. Which reminds me--->If Bill was SK for Shell Cottage and he told Ron, how was Ron able to tell Harry where Dobby should take them? None of the Order could tell Harry about Grimmauld Place, DD had to write him a note, so how was Ron able to spill the secret?

If there's one thing clear in the books, it's that the youthful Harry, like He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, considered Hogwarts his real home.

In any event, Harry was born on July 31, 1980 (per JKR) or July 31, 1982 (per description in the first chapter of Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone). That means he will be 29 (or 27) this coming Friday. (Happy Birthday, Harry!) He left Privet Drive for good just before his 17th birthday, or 12 (10?) years ago. He has kids now, yet he's going through recruitment at a secondary school in Scotland?

Now, if this were Harry Potter's Retro Recruitment thread, then maybe . . . . ;)

I think that the Fidelius Charm was placed after the incident at Malfoy Manor -- when it became clear that Ron was with Harry, not at the Burrow with Spattergoit -- and after Harry, Ron and Hermione arrived at Shell Cottage. That's when the Weasley's had to go into hiding.

christiangirl 07-27-2009 11:08 PM

^^^^Aaaahhhh yes...right on both counts, yes. But Harry & Co can't be living at Hogwarts now...perhaps they built a home near the Burrow? Perhaps on one of the neighboring hills? Either that or in Godric's Hollow.

Wait, why on earth are we debating the location of a GC user imitating a fictional character?!?!?!

Silly muggles

Can't we all just sit back and enjoy this thread? Why does it have to be under such debate?

I wrote this as a way to discretely share my recruitment story in a (hopefully!) entertaining way.

But I appreciate all of your efforts in trying to disclose my location.. heh :).
