Foreverinpink's Fall 09 Recruitment Tale!
 

Hey all! I will be going through formal recruitment this fall and I'm very excited!! :) I thought I would start my thread now, even though it's a bit early. This way I'll have lots of time for questions or other info! I don't plan on flat out saying my school but I'm sure someone here will figure it out, and that's fine! I'm going to be VERY careful about revealing details about me. I might reveal my school after the end of my story, if all goes well. I have thoroughly read the "What NOT to do" hread and Barbie's gude to recruitment stories, along with many other helpful advice threads for PNMs! Wish me luck! I'll post more later! :)

Haha, I didn't even notice that!! I guess perfectinpurple and I have almost identical usernames and the pink trend seems to be spead around GC! Haha! :) Anyway, I decided to share some descreet information that might be helpful in my story.

There were never many Greeks in my family, just my mother and grandmother. They were both members of XYZ. I really never considered sorority life until my senior year. I knew absolutely nothing about it! I am definitely not the stereotype “sorority girl”. But I thought I would give it a shot, I have nothing to lose! My mom has been so helpful in preparing me for not only college life but fall rush as well! :D


So back up a few months, when I was applying for colleges. I had applied to several schools that I thought would be a good fit, but eventually narrowed my choices down to two. My state's big flagship university, where both of my parents had gone was one option. I had also recieved a small scholarship there, which was great! The other was a more prestigious and smaller school many, many miles away. I never thought I would get accepted, so it was a huge surprise. I slowly fell in love with the far away school. I finally decided to try something new, and go with the far away school! All of my friends are going to my state's flagship school or another close by big university, so I have absolutely no friends going with me on my little adventure. :eek: Hopefully, I will make some friends through the recruitment process!


Far Away school also has a very competitive greek system I've heard! I'm very scared but excited as well! I think I'm pretty prepared, I have at least one rec for every chapter and am working on my wardrobe! I can't wait! :D

Looking at the handle for the OP, I was wondering in the NPC whether there are Sororities which would treat the Rushee dressing overly pink as being a particular want to be in their Sorority or a particular disinterest.

I know that among the NPHC Sororities, that only one Sorority has pink in its colors (AKA) and that the other three don't.

Well, if you walked into a Phi Mu rush party wearing all pink, or a DZ party wearing pink and green, people might look at you like you were trying too hard. But if you walk into, say, a KKG (colors: light & dark blue) wearing all pink, no one's going to think "oh, she wants Phi Mu."

It's more the combos than one particular color, if that makes sense.

Pink is just so feminine and popular these days I would not think twice, but that is me.

A certain combo of colors main hint of a certain sorority, but if I saw a dress that just looked amazing on me/flatters me I would definitely buy it and wear it regardless of the combination. I don't know about all of you, but I do not find things that always make me look great. I would not let color(s) hinder my choice.

I wouldn't let a color/ color combination hinder my choice either... Although beware of going overboard! You might want to avoid wearing the same color/color combos for all of recruitment. It's good to mix things up a little.

If a PNM dressed all in pink, was a double legacy to Phi Mu and talked the whole party about how she'd make a great Phi Mu, then I may think her choice of clothing was significant! Hell, I wore a red dress to prefs that I had picked before recruitment when I swore I would be a Kappa Delta not an AOII!

Yes, it does. Most of the GLOs that I've seen have two (or in a few cases three) colors. Given that those combinations can be found in even a cursory wikipedia search, they shouldn't be too hard to avoid. I wonder if a Rho Chi might mention this...

Haha, I promise I WILL NOT wear all pink to any party! I'm not that Elle Woods-ish! This might give a little away, but there isn't even a DZ or Phi Mu chapter on my campus anyway! ;)

Hey all! I'm going shopping this weekend and have a quick question about pref dresses: All the stickied threads here on GC say to dress on the modest side ("You're trying to impress girls, not boys"). But on the "What to wear" page on my schools panhellenic website, the girls all wearing strapless dresses that are on the short side. I may just be a nervous nelly, but I don't wan't to be the only girl in a more modest dress or vice versa. Any advice? Thanks in advance! :)

Forever in pink, is your mom's sorority at your school? (I dont want to know which one it is or any details) I was just wondering if there is a chance you could end up in the same sorority as your mom and your grandma.

My legacy sorority is at my school! So I could in fact end up there! :) I'm going to keep an open mind though, and they support that!

Thank you court4short, I am fortunate to have such a supportive family! My rush starts at the end of August, the 25th. Well, the Orientation is the 25th, the parties start the 26th. It's coming up so fast, I can't wait!

So I got my pref dress today! I love it, it's a really pretty green and I think I'll stand out! Plus it was on sale. :) Thank you GC veterans, for all of your wonderful advice!
