Where are all the Potential PNMs?
Does it seem that we have fewer PNMs (AKA rushees) on here than usual?
I miss 'em....and their "stupid" questions.:( |
I'm not surprised that people are afraid to post here.....
|
Maybe they are reading the Sticky treads! That would be awesome.
|
wait doesn't the P stand for potential? SO you are looking for the potential potential new members?
|
OK, I checked the stats and right now, there are 23 members and 123 guests perusing the boards.
I'm guessing some of our replies have frightened away PNMs. BUT....if they're reading old threads before they ask questions...that's a GOOD thing! :p |

I'm sorry.:( It won't let me correct the title. |
I'm betting they are lurking. Or, maybe they are out at the lake or beach enjoying their last summer before college!! :D
Oh, to be young again! And, not sitting behind a computer at work!! Just found out we are working tomorrow - WTH?? |
The majority of the PNM posts I've seen have just been in reference to the chapter reputations at their soon-to-be college. I bet more serious questions will be coming later. I agree with srmom - they just got of high school a few months ago and they're probably still out celebrating!
|
I never got the point of coming to this site as a nongreek and asking questions. If you have questions shouldn't you ask somebody at your own school? I do like this site for connecting greeks though. I have learned so much about NPC recruitment from this site. (My school doesn't have formal recruitment)

There has been a facebook group created at my school saying "My School 2013" and one of the groups is "who is rushing in the fall?" I got so sick of reading all the questions with the wrong answer getting answered I posted ( a big no no talking to PNMs but whatever) and was like "CONTACT PANHELLENIC" |
I have to add to my earlier post:
TPTB CAME TO THEIR SENSES AND WE ARE NOT WORKING TOMORROW!!! HIP HIP HOORAY!!! :D Sorry, back to regularly scheduled programming. ;) |

Just so you know, not everyone here is a snarky bitch. Some of us just don't appreciate the craptastic attitude some people have, so we have stopped posting when it comes to giving advice. Some of us are also tired of parents who live a greek experience vicariously through their children and want to know why their dearest darlings were cut because they are so fabulous and wonderful. |

We get a little annoyed with answering the SAME questions over and over. We also get a little sick of getting snark from PNMs when they ask ridiculous questions and don't want honest answers. We're also totally OVER retro threads from random people who don't even post here and really just came here to get attention. You get the idea. It gets a little annoying. |
I'm a PNM!
The Stickys about recruitment are very helpful. :) Just sayin'.
|
Checking in as a PNM who spends the time I am visiting GC to read through any and all thorough old recruitment threads. Thanks for the time you have all dedicated to leaving useful information for PNMs to use- it is very appreciated.
|
Everyone seems to think that we sit back and wait for PNMs to post so that we can snark on them. Not true.
The PNMs that get snarked are the ones who ask totally dumb questions (i.e. what's the reputation of XYZ) or respond rudely to other GCers when they don't like the advice they're given. I think that the best advice I can give to PNMs who post here is to READ THE STICKIES. Most of the time, your situation is NOT UNIQUE. One of the stickies will answer it. Also, DO A SEARCH. Chances are VERY good that your school has been discussed on this site before (especially if it's a bigger school). |

Yay for the pnms who are reading the stickies and old threads!! We heart you!
This thread has an LOLCat -- it is now complete! |
Where are the rushees? As an adult who reads this board because it can be interesting and/or amusing, I would never suggest to a pnm that she read a lot of what is being said here in recent times. The old stuff can be basic training for recruitment. The current discussions? Ladies, it can be good fodder for a writer of a television show. But the snarky behavior, the nasty comments, the vicious attacks...to quote Bethenny Frankel, "very DIScountess." (That makes sense is one is familiar with the RHONYC). If you aren't, some of the contributors are not a credit to any organization, school or women in general.
(And now I will step off my soapbox and be flamed.) |

You are taking offense to things that ARE NOT about you, and you really need to chillax really really soon. |

I honestly do not see where it is that we are just being SOOO MEAN to all the PNMs who come here.
I've answered quite a few PNM posts lately and I don't think anyone has been particularly rude. Heck, there's one PNM with an entire thread going with suggestions about what to do about her photos for recruitment. I don't think that's "mean" at all. |
swerving/
The funniest thing is when someone types something and tries to predict a flaming. I waited with baited breath and there was no flaming, although I'm interested to know what a woman has to do or say to be a credit to women. /swerving |
I am not taking "offense" in that I know that things are not being written about me or to me in general. I know however if I am in at a gathering and a classless act breaks out almost everyone is waiting to watch the trainwreck up close and personal .
If I were a young woman thinking about recruitment, but vascillating, and I read some of the attacks/counter attacks I might take a step back. What I have read might reaffirm/confirm some of the less than pleasant things that I have heard/read about rush and sorority women. |
Dr. Phil:
People can predict that they will be flamed when they say some unpopular or controversal. They may also be flamed when someone who enjoys attacking just for sh***s and giggles decides to go on a rampage. It is also called character: The ability to have an opinion that is possibly unpopular, state it in a neutral (Not "Hey B...) way, explain the position knowing that there are some who will violently disagree and yet are secure enough to state what seems to them to be a salient point. |

I think it's fine that people would prefer GC to be a little better representation of Greek life in general than it sometimes is. I don't mean that everyone needs to stifle himself or herself all the time, just that sometimes when people flip out and they've got their letters out there, it's hard not to see it reflecting on the community at large. If you really stick around and get a feel for personalities, your impression of the site and the genuine helpfulness of some of the members, especially members that might be most controversial, changes. But that's a lot to ask from a girl who just wants to know what to wear to first round, or unthinkably by GC standards, what the chapters are like at her campus before she gets there. |
Screw it. It's so not even worth it.
|
Tippiechick:
Me thinks that you protest much too much. I was not referring to you. If I were interested in blasting someone (emphasis on ONE as in person) I wouldn't waste my energy on a internet snarky comment. My observation was directed to parts of the site in general. For example to women who say to a rushee who is trying to write a real time story and are stalked by contributors who let everybody know what school the girl attends. Or people who attack a kid who may be asking a question that has been asked before and vultures attack with why are you so dumb? (They're young, inexperienced, too lazy to research whatever.) My point is simply ignore the question. Let someone with more patience answer it. (Remember a two year olds constant WHY question?) And again Tippiechick...I am not referring to you specifically. If I wanted to attack you personally darling, I wouldn't be hiding inside a thread. I would say it straight out. You, personally, aren't worth my time. |

There was only one public "outing" recently and the girl who did it (who is an extremely sweet person) was very contrite and thought everyone knew the rushee's school already. She didn't "stalk" and wasn't trying to be mean. The truth of the matter is that between the rushee choosing a name that shouted her location and her utter lack of discretion, many people knew the school after the first post. She had multiple warnings that she was basically showing her underwear and chances to go back and edit, which she ignored. The only "vultures" I have seen are in the ever popular "what are the reps of the sororities at blahblah U" threads, and that's because after the PNM is told, firmly but nicely, that reputations are NOT discussed on here, they keep pushing. |
All I can say is that often when I read a true threat about rush I see comment after comment, "I know what school she goes to!" or "It could only be one of three schools!" I think that it is ............." "And, I know which house it is" And again, I really don't look at individual posters that often, I don't doubt that the woman you refer to is a sweet person in real life. I am sorry that you are pissed. But, if you go back and look at real (not fantasy) threads you will see dozens of the aforementioned comments.

I'm sorry that you apparently see the worst in people, and think that anyone who makes a comment like that is doing so with the intention of ruining a PNM's rush or "stalking" them. |

You're sorry that she, one of the more positive posters IMO, sees the worst in people? Really? |
As a PNM I read the stickies and use the search button. And I love reading recruitment stories because they get me pumped up for this fall. /end

Yes- you are correct. Some awfully sad questions get posted here. I am certain that even the most tolerant GC'ers find their patience tested at times. After all, "I am going to XYZ University and I want to rush. Can you tell me who the awkward, ugly sorority is because I am so awesome I want to avoid the losers...." should not be posted by anyone with a shred of common sense. Last point- you don't need to tell me that not everyone on here is a snarky bitch. Actually, there are many posters on here who are a credit to their organization. Others, however, make me wonder if they are just as miserable in real life. |

And again - if girls can't handle anonymous people on the internet telling them things straight up, no way no day are they going to make it through a competitive rush. Getting back to the original question, which is why are there fewer PNMs posting. Maybe they are 1) reading the stickies and getting their questions answered and 2) realizing their question is too school specific for us to answer and going directly to their Greek life office. If those are the reasons, I think anyone who is sad about the "lack" of PNMs is a giant lame-o. |
