I'm getting married!

So, he didn't pop the question - we agreed we were engaged during a fight. (An icredibly silly, had to force myself not to laugh kind of fight.) He's had my ring (one of my grandmother's) for a few weeks, and has to get it sized so all I could do was look in the box and say, "Yay!"
We're getting married in December. :) Not a huge surprise, because we're both such planners, so nosy and we both suck at keeping secrets, not to mention that we've been discussing it for months.
I've always expected that I would have to help pay for a wedding as I've gotten older, but then I was just informed by my parents that I'm not to pay a cent. The good news just keeps coming. :)

Wait for him to pop the question and give you the ring. ;)

(ETA for explanation: ...since "popping the question" and having the ring are part of your story. If you were a couple who didn't think a formal engagement step necessary, I'd say go ahead and make the announcement. ;) You never really know what life will bring you, so maybe wait for the official question and ring before making the announcement. Everyone that I know says "oohhh...he popped the question?! Do you have a ring? Can I see it???!!!" whenever someone makes this announcement. It sucks to have to respond with "well, not yet, but during an argument...and we're getting married in December...")

MTSUGURL 07-01-2009 11:43 AM

Announcement made. Didn't make sense to wait when we've already set a date, gotten on the church calendar, talked to our parents, etc. All these things kept falling into place. My father (a retired mechanic who rebuilds classic cars) even looked at me one day and turned the care of my car over to him. The fight we had was actually at the tux shop when he was getting fitted for someone else's wedding.

Basic gist of fight:
another groomsman: "Are you his fiancee?"
Me, getting very flustered because no one had asked me that question: "Well, um, until we have a ring on my finger let's call me his girlfriend."
J, (from the dressing room): "We've set a date!"
Me: "But you haven't asked!"
J: "I told you I wanted to marry you and you cried!"
Me: "But you didn't ask!"
J: "We booked the church!"
Me: "FINE! We're engaged! Happy?"

Maybe not the ideal story, but it's our story.
When we started dating, I prayed for clarification because nothing was defined. There's a lady he knows that asked me if I was his girlfriend and once again, flustered, I replied, " Not that I'm aware of. If I am he hasn't let me in on the secret." In the parking lot he told me that he was hoping that I would answer that question with "Yes" from then on.

Based on the fact that different phases of our relationship are always marked by me being the last to know, the fight in the tux shop ended with, "When I'm pregnant one day am I going to find out from your mother?"

We're 32. We've been talking about marriage for a long time and because of the way that our relationship has played out so far, telling people my ring is being sized doesn't matter at all when the big news is that I'm marrying the man I've loved for years. He could tie a string on my finger and I'd be happy.

We want children pretty early on, but we've not gotten started on it yet. :)

Congrats! :) I went to an *outdoor* wedding in December a few years ago, and it was absolutely gorgeous. It was at night, even. But it was in Georgia, so it worked.

THIS.

I'm sure this makes me terribly old fashioned.

But congrats though.

I think it makes you logical. :)

Lol that's the best kind of information! Congrats!

That's crazy, my co-worker was just proposed to this morning and a classmate last week. There's something in the water!

OMG you should tell this story at the bridal shower (if you have one). It just HOLLERED laughing, I can totally see this happening.

Hahhahaha I love that I'm not the only one who thought that.

So, an update since I saw newish posts (that I hadn't seen, anyway,) and didn't realize I didn't let people know... The wedding was planned for tomorrow but was called off in August. Without going into details at all, suffice it to say I'm ok, I'm happy, and it's a good thing.
