Ow, my eyes.

kiteflyersmom 06-27-2009 08:42 PM

I guess I don't understand. You want to start a new sorority and have made an announcement on GC. Does your school know about this?

Kevin 06-27-2009 09:29 PM

When does it become "official"? Who decrees this?

When GC reps send her "How to Make A GLO In 3 Easy Steps!" book in the mail.

Nanners52674 06-27-2009 11:57 PM

Um how can most of us help you when the majority of us are members of GLO's, that actually exist.

Xidelt 06-28-2009 02:54 AM

Step 1 must be to check grammar and spelling.

pshsx1 06-28-2009 04:54 PM

I would also suggest not typing your ritual book in light blue and gray text.

FSUZeta 06-28-2009 05:30 PM

i hope your new sorority has not chosen turquoise and gray for your colors.

I was just about to say that...

lovespink88 06-28-2009 05:54 PM

Hm, it looks like she made a post and vanished. I kind of hope she comes back to play! :p

It could be worse, she could have chosen those colors AND picked letters like something along the lines of Beta Tau Alpha.

I don't know if turquoise and gray is that big of deal - look at AEPhi and KD, DZ and AKA, PhiSig and TPA, DST and ASA (and AST, and AGD, and AOII).

Now, if they are going to do turquoise and gray, and a crown, and a white violet - then we're talking cause for concern. But there are a limited amount of color combos that look good together.

FSUZeta 06-28-2009 06:56 PM

it is to me. i would wager that the above mentioned groups may not have even known of the others existance when they made their choices for colors. with the internet, there is no excuse. she knew enough to come to greekchat to announce the formation of a new sorority, so she could easily have looked at the member groups listed on gc and done searches.

i don't know why a newly forming sorority does not do a search on existing sororities, their colors, symbols, mascots i.e. things that identify that group, so that they can make their own unique choices and avoid any confusion down the road. how about a shade of orange and white, or yellow and white or pink, or yellow and orange or mint green and peach?

I agree w/ AlphaFrog. Not only that, but there is a small chance that even if they did pick turquoise & grey they did so for different reasons that ZTA chose those colors.

Unless they are blatantly copying another sorority (similar name/symbols/philanthropy/creed/etc) I don't see a cause for concern.

It's funny that you bring that up, because a while back, I found a sorority on the University of Rhode Island website that called itself Zeta Epsilon Tau Alpha, and had turquoise and gray as its colors and a white violet as its flower... but since I just looked again and saw that it's now a chapter of ZTA founded on May 2 of this year, I guess it's all good. :)

 I fail to see where AST falls in the color scheme...none of those sororities next to it have emerald green and gold as either color!

And yeah, DG has the anchor too, but we were founded close to one another, far apart from one another. Doubtfully an issue.

ASA & AST - Green & Gold
ASA & AGD - Green & Red (and Buff is hard to do without making it look yellow/gold)
ASA & AOII - Red (and White, although I think white is unofficial)

ASTalumna06 07-01-2009 11:40 PM

On the other hand, everyone could be wrong... maybe turquoise and grey aren't being used for the sorority. She might just live in Happy Pony Rainbow Land where everything comes in bright, pretty colors!

minDyG 07-02-2009 01:06 AM

Since this thread is basically useless anyway, ASTalumna06 or fantASTic, could one of y'all tell me if you use the anchor for the same reason we do--it being the traditional symbol of hope? I looked on the AST website and didn't see any info on it. If you can't tell me, that's fine too. I was just really curious because I don't really know any ASTs personally.

Nope, we're just red (AOII). The only red and white we have is red and white day at Convention - because asking hundreds of women to wear just red (or finding clothing in JUST red) can be a bit much.

That's what I meant - anything AOII I see is usually red & white, because there are so many things that wouldn't work *just* red, and white is probably just the easiest alternative. But it does make you match us.:p

Technically, wouldn't it be you matching us?! ;) (and our color is still only Cardinal - the only unofficial thing we have is the Panda as a mascot)

After reading this, I actually looked up information about DG, and I didn't realize that your original symbol was just an "H" for hope, and that's how you came to use the anchor. I like it :)

That isn't the same reason why/how the anchor was chosen for us. I can tell you that our creed is derived from the four symbols on our crest. But as for the deeper meaning.. it's a secret! :p

I wonder if the OP will ever return? lol

This is a waste of a thread.
