NYC Prep
Blah. What a bunch of kids who are trying WAY too hard. Beyond that, they didn't even cast a particularly cute group of kids. Harsh I know, but they signed up for this crap.
How about this loser that claims he "hooks up" with 12-16 chicks a month? Bravo is really scrapping the bottom of the barrel with this show. Really started to be more and more disappointed with this network. |
This show is awful.
When I was in high school we'd go out to dinner, performances, art galleries, had credit cards, were involved in charities. They didn't invent this, and neither did my social group, many city kids function this way. PC really annoys me, just, YUCK. |
They are a bunch of brats with fake ids and neglective parents.
That one snobby dude who thinks he's so grown because he's a senior is the LAMEST EVER. He's obviously never hung with REAL adults. LOL. |

This show is just so off. Oh and the blonde girl's eyes are like way too small for her face. It started to annoy me.
|
i watched the preview show... so not interested in watching these kids play grown up.
wackness. |
I had it on but didn't really pay attention. The Gossip Girl books are more entertaining.

This show is an epic fail.
They are all trying so hard to be TV socialites a la Paris and Nicky circa whatever year that was. You can totally tell that they think this show is going to make them "famous." It is not. |
I agree. I watched this show yesterday, and I was not impressed. They are definitely trying too hard, not very attractive... everything that has been said. You can tell they are acting for the camera, just not very well.

I did laugh that PC showed up late for a premier because he was on Block Island. Um was your mansion in the Hamptons not available. |

I have only read this so far: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/23/ar...on/23prep.html Yep. |
My friends who are native Manhattanites can't stand this show, especially since there are a small number of people out there who apparently think the show's stars are representative of the area.
|
first, one of the girls on the show goes to my high school which is public and she isn't actually rich so i don't even know why she is on the show. anyone in nyc get into the school based on a test -- it's not likes its a public school full of only rich kids from one rich neighborhood.
secondly, i used to hang out with a nyc prep school crowd sometimes and its a lot like other schools in the sense that not everyone is exactly the same. yeah, there are a lot of new money types like these stupid kids that are trying too hard but there are also the academic types, hippies, partiers, druggies, the jocks, old money, nerds, dorks, etc. the difference with rich kids is they just have a tendency to be able to indulge their interests more b/c they can afford too - the academics get expensive tutors, the nerds by crazy gadgets, the partiers can go to fancy clubs and parties. and i could deal with these stupids kids not being representative if they were at least interesting but they arent. they honestly remind me of a bunch of alex's from the real housewives of new york city -- if you're always feeling the need to talk to other people about your status, your status isn't that great. |
The funny thing is some of them aren't new money. PC comes from a very well known old money family. Some articles are saying he should know better to act like he is if he wants his family trust.
|
watched this about an hour ago... i agree with all of you. i love how PC and (i forget the blonde chick's name that's his BFF) are all like "these kids are so young, they know nothing... blahity blah..." he is so the show's Sebastian from Cruel Intentions.
and umm, yall are 17. one year difference. its funny because they look either really old or really young. and is it a prereq that all these rich wealthy girls must looooove fashion/pr and talk really slow with their heads cocked to the side? is Sebastian supposed to be this show's Spencer? (that's as far as i can go with a Hills reference) and the public school girl isnt fooling me - she wouldnt be associated with any of these kids if they werent being taped all the time. plus props to her mom who - gasp - actually gives a hoot about her life. i love how they all talk about their money and their Hampton houses, their credit cards... none of it is yours! none of you work! |

I hate this show SO MUCH.
PC makes the experience all the more painful. He wants SO MUCH to be so ritzy and grown. And are we to believe that Bravo let these KIDS toast alcoholic beverages? I say they were nonalcohol, which makes it all the more corny (although legal). |
These kids are not the real deal. I was reading on another forum by several New Yorkers that they attend a school called Dwight, which although a prep school is a Tier 3 prep-school at best. They argued that the only truly elite one was actually the public school girl, because her school is actually elite (based on test scores though, not money) and that Dwight is essentially for kids who were rich enough for prep school but not smart enough for the real deal.
This is just like the "Real Housewives of __________"...it's not the real thing. They are on the outside of the true upper class/elite and looking in, and think this show will push them into the real thing. But it won't because anybody who is truly elite in New York would never associate themselves with a show like this. |

HBO once did a documentary on children whose parents are wealthy. I think there were kids involved who were Rockefellers, Johnson and Johnson heirs, etc. After it aired, several of the kids involved were cut entirely from wills and were denied their trust funds because their families found the exposure appalling. Why? Because the truly wealthy and elite don't typically feel that that that type of attention is necessary. These kids wanted attention and it cost them their trust funds. I wonder if the same will happen with these kids. |

Yeah, I agree. Bravo's really stretching here with the nyc preps. Sadly, I do watch it. How about you??
|
Does anyone even think it's crazy that these kids are left to their own devices with no parental control??
|
Hey, AnotherKD, I agree with you about Camille's eyes. WTF??? I can't tell who she's looking at or where!!! She's soooo cross eyed!! Freaky.
|
They have this tone of voice that just grates on my nerves. It is as if they all have stuffed up noses, and the peppering of "like" doesn't help either. The exbf Cole has a normal sounding voice, I wonder if there is a whole diction and voice course on how to sound nasal offered in these private schools.

Does anyone else find the hair flip/smoothing move that Sebastian does to be the most annoying thing on the planet? Drives.Me.Insane.

Those club scenes where they are drinking, is it safe to assume it's reall liquor. If 17 and 18 yo get away with it, doesn't Bravo suck for showing it? Quote:

This show annoys me but I get sucked into back-to-back episodes everytime. LOL.
I think this is the one where PC is in Mexico and his friend says he's bisexual. |

Does anyone else find it SOOO annoying that Taylor is nothing but a social climbing loser? It's so pathetic!

I didn't like PC at first, but I've gained a new respect for him only because he's such an inclusive person. Yes, he wants to be grander than what he really is, but I think he tries hard to be loyal to his best friend (e.g., he listens to all her bitchin' and lecturing him) and he tried to make that other girl feel better when her boyfriend was paying more attention to his ex. It might've been inappropriate, but I felt it counted for something. He tries to make the effort sometimes (despite how minimal it is ... ). But if he doesn't hurry up and come out soon ... But then again, I don't really watch the show that often, ... just in parts here and there. I don't really like the show that much, but I'm completely hooked on BravoTV's other shows. I think the guys at Bravo really understand reality television. ;) |

PC is a bitch to everyone except his therapist. I have taken a break from this show because RHOA and Miami Social are more interesting and they aren't annoying CHILDREN. :) |
So, does anyone really thing PC is Bi? Does anyone really care?
|
Something I noticed last night is that it seems like all of the girls are brunette (except the one with the weird too close together eyes). Don't get me wrong, where I live there are plenty of brunettes, but you see many blonde girls as well. There just seem to be no blondes in this pack of girls.
Also, to be frankly honest, none of them are what I would consider "pretty" either. The girls that I see at my kids' schools (UT and UF, and the local hs) are knockouts. Did they just not find any attractive girls to be on the show, or is the NYC prep school scene just bereft of them? as to PC being Bi or not, if it seems like the cool thing to do at the moment, I would guess he'd say he's bi. I don't know if he's really self aware enough to know what he is at any given moment. |

Makes sense; Paris was kicked out of Dwight. FWIW...I saw a picture of PC's grandfather on Wiki today when I was doing some research on Lehman Brothers. Definitely a resemblance. |
Camile & her friend shopped at Lilly Pulitzer for their FALL visit to Harvard. Love all things Lilly but in the Fall up in Boston? Didn't get that at all.
Ally the daughter of Jill Zarin from Real Housewives, NYC was in last night's episode. Love her. Will have to dig up the article but I don't think she's friends with the girls from the show anymore. |
