Of anal cancer! That sounds terrible. How does one get anal cancer? Is it like colon cancer that spreads, or is it like cervical cancer?

(PS, I'm at work, and Googling "anal cancer symptoms and causes" is not what I should be doing now.)

I have also been curious about this form of cancer.

I looked at the link provided in the original post. There have been quite a few losses due to cancer, mostly lung cancer, in Hollywood.

Isn't cancer considered the "#1 killer," in terms of diseases for the general population?

I could be wrong, but I thought I'd heard somewhere that heart disease is the current #1 killer, with cancer on pace to pass it in the next year or two.

She pledged Tri Delt at the University of Texas but didn't initiate.

Yep. Me too.

Charlie's Angels is one of the first night time TV shows that I have memories of watching.

So very sad. Amazing how in my 20s that 62 seemed plenty old. Now that I am in my 30s, and my own parents are in their 60s, it seems so shockingly and heartbreakingly young.

Same here.

It is extremely young given the technological and medical advances. People usually don't pass away "this young" from "natural causes."

Heart Disease is the #1 killer of women.....not too sure about men though.

RIP Farrah

I saw it reported today that they never did marry.

I think the HPV virus can be a cause anal cancer.

nikki1920 06-25-2009 03:55 PM

..and that is so sad. :(

Heard of colorectal cancer? That's what she had. Hence the "rectal" part of it. Rectal cancer usually gets grouped in with colon cancer because essentially it's the same part of the body...just in different segments. Suspected causes of colorectal cancer: heredity, age, poor diet among other possibilities. But really it could happen to anyone. This is why it's important to get a colonoscopy once you turn 50! If treated early, colorectal cancer is very curable; but if it's not caught until stage 3 or 4, survival is diminished.

ETA: I had heard she had rectal cancer, but see now that she had anal cancer. I looked it up to see if it was different than rectal, and apparently it is. HPV is listed as the most likely cause of most anal cancers.

My parents are in their 60s and I'm not even 20 yet... it's heartbreaking indeed. 62 just seems way too early.

According to Barbara Walters, although she accepted the proposal from Ryan, they never did get married because she was too weak.

RIP Farrah

Well being in college in the late 70's, we all wanted to have that "Farrah hairstyle"
I feel bad she didn't get to visit with her son before she passed.

I feel genuinely awful about Farrah's passing, especially before she & Ryan O'Neal could finally get married. I've mentioned before about a sister of ours who won a Celebrity Look-a-like contest as Farrah Fawcett - hearing about this on the radio this afternoon took me right back to the day Nancy died. On the special last month, it mentioned the high incident of early death from cancer in her family, including her only sister.

I pray that Farrah has found peace and is finally without sickness of any sort. I want to remember her at her most beautiful, and at her finest acting (like The Burning Bed).

Being in geriatrics, I sometimes hear that someone in their late 70's is sick and say, "oh, that's so young!" When you daily see someone who's over 100, age becomes so unimportant - the disease is what's insidious.
