Rather than continue to hijack a Delta Zeta thread, I thought I'd start a new one here.

Sorority members - Do you have a tagline? Do you use a mascot, or a symbol?


Gamma Phi Beta
Open Motto - Founded on a Rock.
Tagline - Connect. Impact. Shine.
Creed - (shortened version) Love. Labor. Learning Loyalty.

Many sisters probably do not know this (unless they read the last Aglaia), but Phi Mu went from our beloved Imagine. Believe. Achieve. to "Vibrant". At least it makes more sense now that they put it into context, but the first time I heard it I wanted to weep.

I have to admit - I read "Vibrant" wrong the first time. :eek:. I liked Imagine. Believe. Achieve.

I swear, I was in the middle of the hotel like :mad: and :( at any given time. It will not be let go of easily. :D

"Tradition of Leadership" is Kappa's tagline or something like that, but it doesn't really have any special meaning to me.
Symbols/mascots: owl, key, fleur-de-lis

We kind of get an extra symbol because our flower is the iris. :-)

I totally agree. When they revealed it at Leadership Conference... all I could say was :eek:

Sorry I missed it, AOIIAngel. And yes, things have changed!

Our new tagline is "Real. Strong. Women." I really, REALLY love it, and it makes so much sense when you see the video they used to premiere it. It's only been around for about a year now...

Our symbol is the lyre, but no mascot (though I've heard some chapters have individual mascots).

I like it, too, Smile_Awhile. Each word stands alone with a meaning and together as a separate meaning. Cute!

I was not the biggest fan of AOIIs branding...I hate that it's lowercase and that the logo is outlined in black (looks almost sinister!) In the end, I embraced it because what else am I going to do?!;)

Theta Phi's tagline is Ever Loyal, Ever Lasting.
Our mascot is the penguin and symbol is the compass.

DG's new one is "for hope; for strength; for life".

Why of course!!! Some do but most have the stuffed kind.:D And I have many (all colors, sizes, styles) and somehow I can never have too many.:)

Just remembered (thanks for the reminder, SWTXBelle!): Alpha Chi does have the lyre bird as it's official animal, and it sits on the top of our crest. However, I haven't really seen it used. Think about it- when was the last time you saw a lyre bird stuffed animal? ;)

Symbol: kite, twin stars
Flower: Black and gold pansy
Colors: Black and gold

No jewel, no mascot, and all motto-ish type stuff is secret.

I don't mind not having a mascot. While having a jewel might be nice, I like that we can bling out our badges with whatever jewels we like. I l have seen pearls (mine), diamonds, turquoise, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds on different badges. Our badge unites us, but it is also fun to add our own individuality to it.

I feel bad about that - I thought that the "Imagine. Believe. Achieve." tagline was one of the best! And yes, my mind was in the gutter for a moment when I saw the new one, too. I can already imagine how many t-shirts will be made incorrectly.

That's nice, too - very powerful!

For Alpha Delta Pi:

Open Motto: "We Live For Each Other."
Tagline: First. Finest. Forever. Since 1851.
Flower: The Woodland Violet, although the African Violet is accepted during the months you can't find the spring violets.
Stone: The Diamond, although a lot of chapters include the blue jewels (sapphire, blue topaz, aquamarine) as secondary ones.
Color: Azure Blue and White.
Official Mascot: The Lion, nicknamed Alphie.

For Tri Delta:

Open Motto: "Let us steadfastly love one another."
Tagline: A perpetual bond of friendship.
Flower: Pansy
Jewel: Pearl
Color: Silver, Gold, and Cerulean Blue.
Official Mascot: Dolphin

I like verbs rather than adjectives for taglines.

Sigma Kappa
 

Sigma Kappa is unveiling a whole new identity this summer at our Collegiate Officers Training School. So, currently, our tagline is "Bringing Sisterhood to Life," but it won't be for long! I participated in one of the online surveys they conducted, "beta testing" two different taglines. I can say I LOVED one of them and was only mildly lukewarm about the other- I guess I'll have to wait until July to see if my favorite made the cut (or they could have gone a whole new direction, too!).

Open Motto: One Heart, One Way
Jewel: Pearl
Colors: Lavender and Maroon
Mascot: Dove and Heart
Flower: Wild Purple Violet (changed last year at Convention from simply Violet- you can't imagine the racous this caused- seriously!)

Kind of an aside, but when our new visual identity was unveiled in 2006, it was mentioned in the presentation that the agency that created the visual identity/marketing strategy for us -- Richard Harrison Bailey/The Agency (or RHB) in South Bend and Indianapolis -- had done similar work for over 25 fraternities and sororities. I wonder how many of the taglines in this thread (and the visiual identities of which they are usually part) were desgined by RBH.

And I know SWTXBelle asked about sororities, but since I've posted anyway, ours is: Among Men Harmony (colored as in my signature). It has proven to be really popular.

Like Alpha Chi Omega, we use the lyre as a symbol. The visual identity also included a new take on our lyre (the strings can be black or gold):

Alpha Omega Epsilon

Tagline: Friendship. Leadership. Professionalism.
Jewel: Blue Sapphire
Colors: Royal Blue, Silver, and White
Mascot: Dolphin
Flowers: We have three different flowers, one for each stage of membership. Candidates (our name for new members) have the white carnation. Actives have the white rose. Alumna have the calla lily.

We don't have an open motto either. Rather, we have the Ideals and Objectives. We do have a closed motto though.

I really like our tagline! Our Kappa Trainers and workshops always emphasize empowering women to be leaders, not just within our own chapters (ie officer positions) but in our personal lives and long after we graduate. You don't necessarily need to be elected to lead :)

Omega Phi Alpha

Motto: Today's Friends, Tomorrow's Leaders, Forever in Service
Tagline: Don't really have a tagline, I guess its more of our 3 cardinal principles which is pretty much mentioned in our motto: Friendship, Leadership, Service
Flower: Yellow Rose
Jewel: don't have one
Colors: Light Blue, Dark Blue, Gold
Official Mascot: Raggedy Ann, but we call her Ophia

Alpha Epsilon Phi

Open Motto: Multa Corda, Una Causa - Many Hearts, One Purpose
Tagline: Above All Else
Flower: Lily of the Valley
Stone: Our Badge is Studded with 27 Pearls
Colors: Green and White
Official Mascot: The Giraffe
Other Symbols: The Columns on our Crest

The flower is technically the fleur-de-lis, which is most often represented by the iris. (I just checked the website, because I wasn't 100% positive on that).

The tagline "Tradition of Leadership" came about after surveying a number of members - both active and alumna - and combining their answers into one concise message. I also love it.
