Sorority taglines, etc.
Rather than continue to hijack a Delta Zeta thread, I thought I'd start a new one here.
Sorority members - Do you have a tagline? Do you use a mascot, or a symbol? Gamma Phi Beta Open Motto - Founded on a Rock. Tagline - Connect. Impact. Shine. Creed - (shortened version) Love. Labor. Learning Loyalty. http://www.chaptertools.net/site_fil...1213027394.jpg Flower - Pink Carnation Jewel - Pearl Colours - Brown and Mode. Symbol - Waxing crescent No mascot |
Many sisters probably do not know this (unless they read the last Aglaia), but Phi Mu went from our beloved Imagine. Believe. Achieve. to "Vibrant". At least it makes more sense now that they put it into context, but the first time I heard it I wanted to weep.
|
Our tagline is:
Friendship. Character. Conduct. It's based on our Mission Statement: To establish among its members a perpetual bond of friendship, to develop in them strong womanly character, and to impress upon them high standards of conduct. We have two symbols (skull and crossbones & the sailboat), but no mascot. |

I have to admit - I read "Vibrant" wrong the first time.. I liked Imagine. Believe. Achieve. |

"Tradition of Leadership" is Kappa's tagline or something like that, but it doesn't really have any special meaning to me.
Symbols/mascots: owl, key, fleur-de-lis We kind of get an extra symbol because our flower is the iris. :-) |
Alpha Xi Delta: Realize your potential.

I thought I remembered making a thread about taglines a while back...
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...light=taglines It looks like somethings have changed since then. |
Sorry I missed it, AOIIAngel. And yes, things have changed!
|
Our new tagline is "Real. Strong. Women." I really, REALLY love it, and it makes so much sense when you see the video they used to premiere it. It's only been around for about a year now...
Our symbol is the lyre, but no mascot (though I've heard some chapters have individual mascots). |

I was not the biggest fan of AOIIs branding...I hate that it's lowercase and that the logo is outlined in black (looks almost sinister!) In the end, I embraced it because what else am I going to do?!;) |
Sigma Gamma Rho
Mascot is the Poodle
Flower is the yellow tea rose Jewels are 10 pearls and 2 rubies Torch and other symbols in the shield Official Motto/Slogan: "Greater Service, Greater Progress" Here are some common (unofficial) taglines, not sure if these are taglines as much as they are common sayings: "Last Created, Best Designed" (as in the last NPHC sorority founded) "Quality over Quantity" "I Am My Sister's Keeper" "True Beauties wear 10 pearls and 2 rubies" "Sisterhood. Scholarship. Service." |
Theta Phi's tagline is Ever Loyal, Ever Lasting.
Our mascot is the penguin and symbol is the compass. |
DG's new one is "for hope; for strength; for life".
|
Okay, so I'll actually fill in the AOII blanks:
Motto: secret Tagline: exceed the expectation Flower: General Jacqueminot Rose Stone: Ruby Color: Cardinal Unofficial Mascot: Panda Other Symbol: Sheaf of Wheat |

Just remembered (thanks for the reminder, SWTXBelle!): Alpha Chi does have the lyre bird as it's official animal, and it sits on the top of our crest. However, I haven't really seen it used. Think about it- when was the last time you saw a lyre bird stuffed animal? ;)
|
Theta:
Tagline (new in the last year): True Promise. Symbol: kite, twin stars Flower: Black and gold pansy Colors: Black and gold That's it! No jewel, no mascot, and all motto-ish type stuff is secret. I don't mind not having a mascot. While having a jewel might be nice, I like that we can bling out our badges with whatever jewels we like. I l have seen pearls (mine), diamonds, turquoise, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds on different badges. Our badge unites us, but it is also fun to add our own individuality to it. |

For Alpha Delta Pi: Open Motto: "We Live For Each Other." Tagline: First. Finest. Forever. Since 1851. Flower: The Woodland Violet, although the African Violet is accepted during the months you can't find the spring violets. Stone: The Diamond, although a lot of chapters include the blue jewels (sapphire, blue topaz, aquamarine) as secondary ones. Color: Azure Blue and White. Official Mascot: The Lion, nicknamed Alphie. |
For Tri Delta:
Open Motto: "Let us steadfastly love one another." Tagline: A perpetual bond of friendship. Flower: Pansy Jewel: Pearl Color: Silver, Gold, and Cerulean Blue. Official Mascot: Dolphin Other Symbols: Pine tree, Trident, Poseidon, Crescent moon and stars |
Quote:
Here's rest of Alpha Xi Delta's stuff... Open Motto: "The pen is mightier than the sword." Tagline: Realize your potential Flower: Pink Rose Jewel: None Color: Dark blue, light blue and gold Official Mascot: BetXi Bear (a cute little girl teddy bear!) Other Symbols: Quill |
PI PHI:
Tagline: Friends & Leaders for Life (I'm guessing. This is what's on the website.) Colors: Wine & Silver Blue Flower: Wine Carnation Unofficial Mascot: Angel Official Symbol: Arrow |
I need to formally do it:
PHI MU Open Motto: "Les Soeurs Fidèles" which translates as "The Faithful Sisters" Tagline: Formerly-"Imagine. Believe. Achieve." Currently-"Vibrant" Flower: Enchantress Rose Carnation (Pink Carnation) Stone: None officially Symbols: Quatrefoil, three stars Color: Rose (pink) and White Official Mascot: The Lion, nicknamed Sir Fidel, after the pronunciation of our open motto. Symbols: Quatrefoil, three stars |
Alpha Chi Omega:
Open Motto: "Together let us seek the heights." Tagline: Real. Strong. Women. Flower: Red Carnation Jewel: Pearls! Color: Scarlet and Olive Green Official Mascot: None- some take the lyrebird (which sits atop our crest) as a mascot. Official Symbol: Lyre Other Symbols: Three stars (as seen on our crest), our crest |
Alpha Sigma Tau: :)
Open Motto: Active. Self-Reliant. Trustworthy. Tagline: "Friendships forged in tradition" Flower: Yellow rose Jewel: Pearl Colors: Emerald green and gold Symbol: Anchor Mascot: Each chapter has their own |
Since Kappa Delta hasn't been done....
Our new tagline: Making great things happen. I didn't like it at first but now I'm okay with it. Open Motto: Ta Kala Diokomen (Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful and highest.) Flower: White Rose Jewels: Pearl, emerald, diamond Colors: Olive Green and Pearl White Symbols: Dagger and Nautilus Shell Mascots: Katydid and *Teddy Bear *I've mentioned it before but I'll say it again...I hate the teddy bear. It wasn't one of our mascots back in my day so I outright reject it. I also think it was a total rip-off from Alpha Phi so I reject it out of respect for them as well. |

I like verbs rather than adjectives for taglines.

Sigma Kappa
Sigma Kappa is unveiling a whole new identity this summer at our Collegiate Officers Training School. So, currently, our tagline is "Bringing Sisterhood to Life," but it won't be for long! I participated in one of the online surveys they conducted, "beta testing" two different taglines. I can say I LOVED one of them and was only mildly lukewarm about the other- I guess I'll have to wait until July to see if my favorite made the cut (or they could have gone a whole new direction, too!).
Open Motto: One Heart, One Way Jewel: Pearl Colors: Lavender and Maroon Mascot: Dove and Heart Flower: Wild Purple Violet (changed last year at Convention from simply Violet- you can't imagine the racous this caused- seriously!) |

And I know SWTXBelle asked about sororities, but since I've posted anyway, ours is: Among Men Harmony (colored as in my signature). It has proven to be really popular. Like Alpha Chi Omega, we use the lyre as a symbol. The visual identity also included a new take on our lyre (the strings can be black or gold): http://www.sinfonia.org/News/images/newlyre.jpg |
Alpha Omega Epsilon
Tagline: Friendship. Leadership. Professionalism. Jewel: Blue Sapphire Colors: Royal Blue, Silver, and White Mascot: Dolphin Flowers: We have three different flowers, one for each stage of membership. Candidates (our name for new members) have the white carnation. Actives have the white rose. Alumna have the calla lily. We don't have an open motto either. Rather, we have the Ideals and Objectives. We do have a closed motto though. |
Quote:
Kappa Kappa Gamma Motto: Secret! No open motto. Tagline: A Tradition of Leadership. Flower: Blue Iris Jewel: Sapphire Colors: Light Blue and Dark Blue Official Mascot: Owl Official Symbols: Owl, Key and Fleur de Lis I really like our tagline! Our Kappa Trainers and workshops always emphasize empowering women to be leaders, not just within our own chapters (ie officer positions) but in our personal lives and long after we graduate. You don't necessarily need to be elected to lead :) |
Omega Phi Alpha
Motto: Today's Friends, Tomorrow's Leaders, Forever in Service Tagline: Don't really have a tagline, I guess its more of our 3 cardinal principles which is pretty much mentioned in our motto: Friendship, Leadership, Service Flower: Yellow Rose Jewel: don't have one Colors: Light Blue, Dark Blue, Gold Official Mascot: Raggedy Ann, but we call her Ophia |
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Open Motto: Multa Corda, Una Causa - Many Hearts, One Purpose Tagline: Above All Else Flower: Lily of the Valley Stone: Our Badge is Studded with 27 Pearls Colors: Green and White Official Mascot: The Giraffe Other Symbols: The Columns on our Crest |

The tagline "Tradition of Leadership" came about after surveying a number of members - both active and alumna - and combining their answers into one concise message. I also love it. |
