Where would you like to see your sorority/fraternity colonize/recolonize?

Hey all. I thought I'd start this topic. I looked to see if anyone has done this before and couldn't find anything.

So here is the question:
Where would you like to see your sorority/fraternity colonize/recolonize?

Personally, I would love to see Tri Delta back at the University of Rhode Island. My parents live 5 minutes down the road and it would be great to see them at that campus. Especially since there are so few chapters in New England. Tri Delta was removed there in the 80's, and I know a bunch of alum still live there (I mean lets face it, its rhode island, no one ever leaves :p).

Thoughts?

lauralaylin 06-01-2009 10:47 AM

Hey, I left RI! I went to URI, and it's even my home town! :)

I'd like to see us at UNC Charlotte since it's close to me. UMass is also a place I'd love for us to colonize. I used to really want UConn, but it happened!

littleowl33 06-01-2009 12:52 PM

I would love to see Kappa back at University of Maryland College Park. The Gamma Psi chapter there was active from 1929-1992. The Johns Hopkins chapter was founded in 1999 and currently we're the only Maryland chapter! It would be nice to have another chapter in MD... right now the closest is Gamma Chi at GW in DC. I've also heard rumors that there were some bad feelings from area alums about opening the JHU chapter in '99 instead of re-opening the UMDCP chapter, so it might help alleviate any issues there.

UMDCP has really nice houses, too! Granted, it's one of the very few Greek Rows I've seen, but when I was driving around I was very impressed... especially since JHU sororities are unhoused!

I'd also love to see Kappa back at UPenn for the purely arbitrary reason that I absolutely loved the school when I was a high school senior and toured the campus, and that it's one of our few really old chapters that's inactive NOT due to the fact that the school no longer exists or no longer has Greek life. Beta Delta chapter was there from 1890-1977.

Ah, this is such a fun topic! haha.

I would love to see AOII's UBC chapter open again and see a chapter at the university of Windsor. :D

pshsx1 06-01-2009 06:03 PM

I would like to see our Michigan Delta chapter at University of Detroit-Mercy come back. They were the ones who made our affiliation with SigEp possible and we were working extremely hard trying to save them.

AOII Angel 06-01-2009 06:27 PM

Like I said in the Kappa thread...I'd love to see AOII back at Columbia, though, it wouldn't be our Alpha chapter since we were founded specifically at Barnard. Maybe it would be the Alpha Alpha chapter!

KSUViolet06 06-01-2009 06:52 PM

I'd love to see these chapters back:

Kappa - Miami (OH)
Beta Kappa - Arizona State
Rho - Florida State
Phi - Ohio University
Epsilon Xi- Indiana University

Where I'd like to see us colonize (to name a few):

Louisiana State - we have 4 other chapters in the state and we've looked into it before I believe, but it didn't happen.

Ohio State - I'd love for there to be a 3rd chapter in OH and another Big 10 chapter (besides Penn State).

SDSU - I'm from there, and it would be nice to have another chapter in CA.

ThetaPrincess24 06-01-2009 07:16 PM

I'd like to see Kappa Alpha Theta recolonize here:

University of Tennessee
University of South Carolina
University of North Carolina
Wake Forest
Oregon
Massachusetts
Arkansas
Montana State
Dartmouth
Virginia Tech
Villanova
Furman
South Florida

Colonize here:

University of Louisville
Transylvania University
Western Kentucky University
Bellarmine

PeppyGPhiB 06-01-2009 07:26 PM

I'd love to have some of Gamma Phi Beta's closed chapters recolonized, but here's one I bet no one else will suggest: I'd like us to colonize at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. Why? Because then we would have a chapter at every greek school in Washington state - something no sorority has accomplished!

Our Gamma Gamma chapter is in Walla Walla. :p I always thought that was cute!

unicorn 06-01-2009 08:27 PM

I'd love to see us recolonize Kappa chapter at Miami (OH), Beta Nu at Fresno State (my hometown!), and any of our other dormant California chapters. I'd also love to see us colonize in the Washington, DC area.

33girl 06-01-2009 09:37 PM

All our dormant chapters and some more of the Cal State/UC schools.

als463 06-01-2009 10:05 PM

Phi Mu

I would love to see us recolonize:

University of New Mexico (Xi)
Ohio State University (Upsilon)
George Washington U. (Beta Alpha)
USC (Iota Sigma)
Southern Methodist U. (Epsilon Alpha)
UC-Berkeley (Eta Alpha)
University of Washington (Eta Beta)
Syracuse (Beta Zeta)
Pitt (Beta Theta)
Bucknell (Beta Kappa)
U. of Arkansas (Alpha Beta)
UCLA (Eta Delta)
WVU (Gamma Beta)
Duke University (Gamma Epsilon)
UConn (Beta Xi)
Michigan State University (Delta Nu)
Michigan (Delta Xi)
James Madison U. (Gamma Theta)
George Mason U. (Gamma Omicron)
Virginia Tech. (Gamma Pi)
UC-Davis (Eta Mu)
Texas A&M (Epsilon Kappa)
UVA (Gamma Omega)
UMass-Amherst (Beta Omicron)

Colonize:
Any of the Ivies...

em_adpi 06-04-2009 01:37 AM

I'd lovelovelove to see ADPi back at Ole Miss. (Delta Beta chapter??? can't remember so forgive me if I'm wrong)

I know the house is now the Honors college, but I thought we needed a different house anyway.

XAntoftheSkyX 06-04-2009 07:02 AM

I'm pleased a lot of people want to see chapters re-colonize at UMass-Amherst! Our NIC is currently overseeing 15 fraternities but our PHC only has 7 chapters. It can be rough being greek in Amherst but I'd love to see some new/old organizations install!

Ditto. It's nice to open new chapters, but there is something special about reopening a Chapter in the Sky.

APhi4Ever 06-04-2009 09:54 AM

I'd love to see us recolonize at:

Stanford University (Kappa)
Texas A&M University (Epsilon Omega deuteron)
University of Kansas (Gamma Delta)
Texas Christian University (Zeta Nu)

Colonize at:
UNC-Chapel Hill
Any SEC school

minDyG 06-04-2009 12:35 PM

I wish DG would colonize more chapters in GA! Or SC for that matter. I think our closest chapter (from Delta Iota) is the Auburn chapter? It would be fun, from an alumna point of view, to have more collegians to stop in on. And volunteer with. Plus, I like the idea of keeping up with our Southern roots. :)

So, recolonizations I'd like to see:
Emory
Georgia State University
Clemson
University of South Carolina

And colonizations that would make me sooo happy (but probably aren't likely to happen anytime soon since the campuses aren't looking to expand):
University of South Carolina, Aiken
Augusta State University

I like Sig-Tau to recolonize at:

University of Akron
University of Iowa.

In a dream world, Ohio State would be the ideal place for a colony.

PhoenixAzul 06-04-2009 02:39 PM

In an ideal world, I'd love to see all the original Otterbein sororities re-established...there are two that I can recall that are dormant. A girl I knew tried to re-establish one my sophomore year but it just never took off. There's also just not enough campus interest to sustain it. The current groups have been pretty steady in their membership size, and because we don't use Release Figures or Quota in the NPC sense, it doesn't really matter (in the recruitment sense, not the chapter impact sense) if a chapter takes quota or less than.

We'll get there, sis. We'll get there. ;)

SWTXBelle 06-04-2009 10:25 PM

My joy would know no bounds if only our Gamma Chi chapter at Texas State were recolonized - and I would explode with happiness if it were to happen before my daughter graduated.

ForeverRoses 06-05-2009 08:52 AM

I would love it if our Purdue chapter recolonized- mainly because it is close to my house and my niece will be a freshman there next year. I agree that it would be cool if AOII colonized Columbia-- even if it really isn't our Alpha chapter.

And in a dream world, I would love to see AOII recolonized Ohio Northern. They closed while I was an active, and I was able to meet a couple of the sisters through the National Broadcasting Society, and they were so sweet. I remember being really sad when I heard their charter was being held in trust.

And I know this isn't my org, but-- I would love to see Phi Mu back at Ohio University. I know the numbers aren't there yet, but I had a good friend that was a member back in the day... (plus as of now they still own their house right on College Street in the middle of greek row)

OhSeven 06-05-2009 01:04 PM

Sigma Kappa

I would love to see recolonization at...

University of Alabama (Alpha Omega)
Arizona State (Theta Omicron)
Stanford (Pi)
UCLA (Alpha Omicron)
UC Santa Barbara (Beta Chi)
USC (Theta Kappa)
Florida State (Omega)
UMiami (Beta Delta)
Indiana (Tau)
Louisiana State (Zeta Omega)
Ohio State (Chi)
Carnegie Mellon (Beta Iota)
Gettysburg (Gamma Nu)
Lafayette (Zeta Rho)
South Carolina (Beta Beta)
SMU (Sigma)

I am aware that I have high hopes, haha.

em_adpi 06-05-2009 06:32 PM

I would like to add ADPi at Wash U in St. Louis - I think it would be a first for us :)

I know the house is now the Honors college, but I thought we needed a different house anyway.

IMHO, that house is one of the bigger reasons our Ole Miss chapter closed in the first place! I'd also like to see ADPi recolonize at Ole Miss, LSU, Oregan State, and U of Colorado.

I'd like to see Phi Mu, KAO, and ZTA recolonize at Pitt, but there needs to be a major improvement of the greek system there first. I've met some older ladies from each, and they were seriously interesting women!

JohnnyCash 06-05-2009 11:45 PM

I would like to see our chapter at UMiami recolonize, since it'd be cool to have another chapter 9 miles down the road.

Smile_Awhile 06-06-2009 12:00 AM

I'd love to see Alpha Chi recolonize our Delta Rho (U of Arkansas) chapter, just so we'd have an Arkansas chapter again. I've had so many people give me weird looks when I say I'm an Alpha Chi. "Is that the same thing as Chi O?"

moe.ron 06-06-2009 05:56 AM

Buffalo State - recolonize my chapter darn it.

chitownxo 06-06-2009 12:45 PM

Chi Omega

If I had my way, I'd like to see us colononize/recolonize at....

Lake Forest
Northern Illinois
Eastern Illinois
Emory
Georiga Tech
USC (University of Southern California)
U Mass
Minnesota
University of North Dakota
University of Montana
Anywhere in NY or NJ.

Chi O already has a chapter at UMass, unless you're talking about the Lowell, Dartmouth or Boston campuses.

Sorry, I meant UMass Dartmouth as my goddaughter will be attending there this fall.

LucyKKG 06-06-2009 10:22 PM

I've said this in the Kappa forum before, but San Jose State! They actually just selected Alpha Xi Delta to colonize there. I'm from SJ, and I've met a number of women who were members of that chapter. I really don't think we could handle it any time soon though considering how many CA chapters we've gotten recently (Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, and Merced).

Also: George Mason because one of my key sisses transferred there.

Happy Alum 07-30-2015 06:36 PM

I'd love to see Gettysburg College,Pitt and University of Miami. Every college we're not at already. Go Greek!

PKT4LIFE 07-30-2015 09:06 PM

USC (So Cal) our Pi chapter. I hear "something" is in the works. The issue is housing.

Cleveland State: I've had recent conversations with their OGL and our National. More to come...

Now that we are back at Columbia (and it was allowed to be Alpha as Barnard and Columbia share the Panhellenic system), I would love to see us back at NYU. Our Nu chapter was started by one of our founders, Helen St. Clair Mullan when she was a student at NYU Law School. I think they must have been the cause of law students at NYU being interested in sororities and subsequently starting DPhiE at NYU Law School.

KDKells 07-30-2015 11:00 PM

I really want to see us come back to the northern Midwest/Great Plains/Rockies where we aren't currently.

University of Wisconsin- Madison
University of Minnesota
Illinois State University
Northern Illinois University
Monmouth College
South Dakota State University
University of Wyoming
Montana State University
University of Montana

As for new chapters, hmm. Anywhere in the area honestly.

I would love to see Phi Mu, Pi Beta Phi, Zeta Tau Alpha, and Kappa Alpha Theta back at Pitt.

When the sororities were forced to move onto campus, Phi Mu, Pi Beta Phi & Zeta Tau Alpha seem to have disappeared. I never heard what happened to them at Pitt.

clemsongirl 07-31-2015 01:42 PM

Arkansas
James Madison
Cornell

ADPi:
