Real Housewives of Washington, DC

So...what does everyone think about a series in this location????

Here's an article on it:

KDAngel 05-27-2009 01:02 AM

People are talking to people in the area, but no group has been pitched to any network yet, so it's not like Bravo's casting here or anything. Handful of people I know being talked to though.

I'm assuming after Blonde Charity Mafia does well on the CW this summer (assuming that it totally will considering it's The Hills meets Gossip Girl, and the CW is the perfect medium for such a combo), that Housewives of DC will seem like a great place to go.

I think given what DC has to offer in terms of charity and global decision making, it'd make for a different, yet great location.

Senusret I 05-27-2009 07:44 PM

I hope they actually pick some old money DC neighborhoods.... McLean and Potomac just aren't the same. :(

Still BLUTANG 05-27-2009 08:01 PM

gold coast, no?

Senusret I 05-27-2009 08:14 PM

Gold Coast, Georgetown, Spring Valley, University Park....I am SO READY for this show! lol

Jill1228 05-28-2009 11:45 AM

I would be all over this show! I miss my old stomping ground :(

alum 05-28-2009 12:34 PM

They definitely should recruit cavedwellers to see if any would actually be willing to expose themselves like that.

It's totally going to be nouveau riche Potomac wives.

They've been filming up here for maybe a month now. I think I've lost track of time... but yeah, they're definitely around.

Quote:

Among those who would have made the show more Washington focused — but chose to opt out — is Georgetown’s Susanna Quinn, wife of Democratic lobbyist Jack Quinn. “My husband didn’t achieve all his success so I could turn into an older, paler Lauren Conrad,” Quinn told POLITICO, referring to the 20-something star of “The Hills.”
lol. the rest

southbymidwest 10-28-2009 11:46 AM

The reality is, Washington is a very conservative town when it comes to this kind of stuff- if you are part of the PR/lobbying/political/philanthropic scene here, being on this show could have a negative effect on your/your husband's company's bottom line. Perception is very, very important. No one wants to be perceived even remotely negatively by the people "back home", or by the Washington press. Would explain why they will end up with the Housewives of Potomac, McLean, and maybe Great Falls. Although I think it would be great fun if Ali Wentworth (wife of George Stephanopoulis and Georgetown resident, were on this program. She has quite the sense of humor, something which can be sorely lacking in this town.

She's a Soror--Alpha Chapter.

How you know if you're the 'Real' deal

How do you know if Bravo is real serious about making you a "Real" Housewife? If they follow you overseas. That's why D.C. real estate agent Stacie Turner is looking like a contender to star in the upcoming "Real Housewives of Washington." A source close to the production tells us Turner and her husband recently flew to Paris to see his musician brother perform -- with the show's camera crew on their trail. Turner, an African American mom of two, would add a dose of diversity: Though Bravo has not finalized the cast, the other local women whom producers have focused on recently are all white. She could also add a needed bit of political intrigue: Husband Jason Turner recently left his job with the city's Department of Parks and Recreation amid the upheaval surrounding interim director Ximena Hartsock. The family lives in a 16th Street Heights mansion that was a church before they renovated it (subject of a 2002 Post Sunday magazine story).

I've been watching. :D Are you all?

I see you, Soror. :)

I certainly have. :) It looks like these women will finally add some class to the "real housewives" episodes, ... uh, ... hopefully, at least. The fact that it is filmed in D.C. immediately puts them in a more political climate, and already, the level of discussion is different: "Who has more class, Obama or Bush?" as opposed to "Who has the bigger house in foreclosure?"

Before I give too may accolades, however, I'd better watch the rest just in case these women start to disappoint. But I'm certainly digging Paul Wharton's fine fruity self. :D

ThetaDancer 08-06-2010 07:53 AM

I didn't want to watch this (Michaele Salahi grosses me out) but I did while I was waiting for someone and had unexpected down time. And now I'm hooked!

:) I say all these housewives reality shows are essentially the same. There's absolutely nothing classy (I hate that word) about discussing which President has more class. That's as dumb as a conversation as who has the bigger house. It's a bunch of adults sitting around talking about which President is cooler and would get to play in their sandbox. No depth and substance there.

The frivolity and in-fighting was very apparent in this episode. Michaela is a busy-body annoyance, Cat was talking about stuff at my Soror's house gathering that made the others cringe, and the birthday woman went on a drunk tangent about how hair salons should be more integrated. LOL. For Cat and the birthday woman, I understand that some white people don't know what to do in majority Black settings (because Blacks are usually the minority and not the other way around) so they talk about issues that almost always lead to putting their foot in their mouths. That could be solved if they shut up and stopped trying to be the center of attention. LOL. Apparently, that's also going to be an issue in a future episode.

This show is going to be hilarious. :)

Hmmmmmmm, ... you gotta point there. LOL!! What intrigues me the most is that you know some of the names already. I've watched the repeat show twice, and have yet to learn anyone's names. But the descriptions you gave helped me figure out who we're talking about.

Cat, apparently, thinks Tyra Banks is an idiot, ... but who looked like the bigger idiot when she tried to do an impression of what she thought Tyra was all about?

And, thinking out loud, I don't particularly hate the word 'classy', but after hearing Teresa describe herself as a "classy person" ... ugh.

I think the jury is out on all of them. Except Michaela. Can't stand her or her husband. They spend too much money and can't pay their bills, they are attention whores and I read where he sued his parents a couple of years ago. And the bit about Whoopi Goldburg "hitting" her was absurd.

She and her husband have to be there for drama and humor.

I'm digging the show. It's crazy to see how people I know are portrayed on tv. Even stranger to see how an event I was at was depicted. Ready to see what comes next.

DrPhil 08-12-2010 11:54 PM

LOL @ Soror's soul food dinner and Paul's birthday party.

 @ Michaela and hubby arriving in a white limo with two police escorts.

Ewww...if Michaela kisses Paul on the lips one more time. Barf.

epchick 08-13-2010 12:27 AM

I just had to lol @ penile volumetric measuring device.

For reals?

LikeASista 08-21-2010 09:59 PM

For some strange reason, I'm having a tough time getting interested in this show. :( Maybe it's because it's still new, and the level of drama is still very low. :o

I'm intrigued, however, to see how Michaela and her husband are going to ride this show out. Are these not the two people who crashed President Obama's party at the White house? They seem like opportunists to begin with, and now they've scored a reality show of all things.

I expect my interest to pick up at some point. Maybe I should sit down and REALLY watch the show's past few episodes back to back. That way I won't be lost when things finally start getting a little more interesting. Until then, ... ~ho-hum~

DrPhil 08-21-2010 10:09 PM

^^^ I feel similarly.

I'm getting tired of the tension between the British woman (name?) and the Black woman (Soror's name?). It's centered around racial tension and that is really BLAH after a while. God forbid we have Black folks among white folks and it isn't ALL about race.

Soror is looking for her birth parents and in the next episode, she will reveal that her mom's white. So, she's biracial---unless the commercials are being misleading---boring.

DreamfulSpirit 08-22-2010 02:02 PM

The black woman's name is Stacie.

So far I think my favorite is Mary. Michaele and her husband are just annoying.

Ditto on both.

APhiQuetieACE 08-23-2010 08:11 PM

This season is very boring far. I was excited to see the DC season since I live in the area and whatnot, but like the last few shows (Real World, DC Cupcakes, and Top Chef) have all been pretty terrible. *sigh*

Diligent Pearl 08-23-2010 09:08 PM

I do think this season is sooooooo boring also! Especially following NJ, Atlanta, NY, etc...I need drama on the show, not politics. And how many times do we need to go over the race issue...

Nanners52674 08-23-2010 09:40 PM

I was hoping for way more drama over Mikael (sp?) hosting the birthday party but not wanting to actually pay for it.

LikeASista 08-26-2010 11:30 PM

Okay, in all seriousness, I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's episode. The show really seemed to capture my attention tonight.

First off, I think Stacie (the African American lady) is a very interesting person. I particularly enjoyed watching the scene in which she entertained the company of her sorority sisters (and our "sister sorors" :D ) in her home. She spoke about discovering that her biological mother is German and her father, an African. It wasn't as much of a snoozer as I'd expected it to be. A VERY interesting life she seems to have, and I'm looking forward to learning more about her. :)

The other ladies, ... well, I'll wait 'til everyone has seen the episode. They are interesting, too ... although not so much in the positive sense sometimes. They finally brought out the whole Congressional Black Caucus affair the happy couple kindly waltzed in to ... uninvited.

And, Mary (the one whom, I think, questioned segregated beauty salons a few episodes back ... ), ... Why does her daughter seem, ... hmmmm, ... I don't know ... "special" maybe? I'm so sorry if that sounds cruel ... :o It's just that something seemed to stand out there a little bit.

I will now be watching this show a little more often. Glad it finally picked up. ;)

LikeASista 09-03-2010 04:15 PM

I just watched this show again last night. Lynda seems to have an interest in Black gay men. I'm just saying ...

DrPhil 09-04-2010 11:49 AM

I loved Stacie's scene with her chapter Sorors chanting. You know you're getting older and haven't chanted or strolled since the last homecoming when you're chanting and "Zeta" accidentally follows the "Delta." :p That scene made me smile and yell "OO-OOP!" I see you, Sorors!

Cat and Charles are a very cute couple. They are adorable together. However, Cat is annoying by herself. She is forever the naysayer and forever the person who confuses having a sense of humor with being negative and bitchy. She doesn't care if she's offensive and she thinks that being British and having an accent makes her bitchiness eloquent or something. People eventually get tired of people like that. They will laugh with you (and at you) for a while but they'll eventually expect you to grow the hell up and shut the hell up.

Oh yeah, I'm also offended by people being disrespectful and sneaking into the CBC dinner. We pay money to attend the CBC events that have entry fees. Black folks tend not to get away with sneaking in (besides, it's more bragadocious to pay for such opportunities) and I damn sure don't expect white folks to sneak in. Whites are already the minority in such settings so don't be the minority who's there but didn't PAY to be there. Like Stacie's husband said, we wouldn't be able to sneak into the Daughters of the Confederacy (he may've used a different organization) events.

This is what tickled me about Stacie, who is such a elegant sophisticated lady on all accounts, ... but when she heard this news, she started cussin' like a sailor. LOLOL! Gotta love the real-ness. ;)

Anybody catch this week's episode? Now, is it just me, or is Michaele's voice a tad bit ... I don't know, ... too masculine????????? I could be wrong. I'm a vocalist and like analyzing vocal timbre of others, ... but lately, I'm getting the impression that she's either a smoker, ... or a transexual.

She just has a low, borderline raspy voice. She might be a smoker or she may just have "one of those voices."

It isn't a masculine voice.

Little known historical note: (Please be aware that my family came to the USA in the 1880s. One part of husband's family went to Canada in 1650s...so no way do we qualify for membership.) I remember hearing 20 plus years ago that a Black woman applied for membership in the DAR. She was able to prove that her ancestor(s) fought in the Revolution and (the catcher that eliminated most African Americans from membership) all members of the family were married through the generations. Her family weren't slaves during the revolution. They were free and free to marry. NBC Nightly News covered the story at that time. I think they "had to" let her in.

I saw only a bit of last night's episode: Michaele (sp?) and her husband are quite a pair...wait, you sneak into the White House breaking all sorts of federal laws and social constraints, and you threaten and are sanctimonious about a kid?!!!!! And yes the husband is a mean drunk. Stacie and her husband came across so well, supportive and kind. (fell asleep before the end of the episode).

DrPhil 09-14-2010 07:09 PM

Hey, ellebud, thanks for the historical note. :)

I keep missing these episodes and the reruns. Stacie and Michaela have a mild altercation on Thursday.

ellebud 09-14-2010 08:04 PM

I'm sorry...I was a (modern) American history major. Things like the above fascinate me, and my mind stores lots of stuff that, while I find interesting, others don't. (And if I insulted anyone, I'm sorry.)
