So, I was in an accident...

And it could have been sooo soo much worse....

My car is fine but wait til you see dude's car...I was yielding at an intersection when from out of nowhere, I got hit in the back.

But you know...what was kinda funny was first I made sure I was ok and the way I was hit I JUST KNEW the back of my car was messed up and then I had to calm down cuz I was gonna cuss this dude out...so when I got out the car, the look on his face told me that I had to go really easy on him...BUT...the first thing he asked was

"...Sir are you ok? I am so sorry!! I dind't realize you had stopped."

SO Got myself together...called the cops and let them handlie it and I made it home....somewhat sore but ok and luckily he was ok to drive home.

Thankful and BLESSED that this wasnt much worse than it could have been!!!

So.....ON TO THE PICS....

You know there's a lot of really good blogging sites out there...

Get your vehicle checked out for damage just in case.

I had a similar situation where someone hit me, and originally I wasn't going to take it in because it looked fine, but the police officer encouraged me to get it checked out anyway.

I ended up needing a whole new bumper b/c there was some damage I couldn't see, and some new taillights because the force of the other car cracked them (which I hadn't noticed either).

Then again, I have a car and your SUV is a bit higher up so that probably saved it a bit from damages.

And mmMMMmmMmm Chick Fil A! That makes me wants some chicken strips!

Glad you are uninjured - follow TX Princess' advice and just make sure everything is okay with your car.

DaemonSeid 05-17-2009 04:22 PM

That I am doing as soon as the insurance company comes out...the bumped is slightly detached and the tailpipe is hanging...I am a bit sore and I am calling my PCP tomorrow to get checked out.

That happened to me too about damage you cant always see. I was rear-ended by a lady changing radio stations. The front of her car looked like the car in these pictures but my car looked fine. Dad thought it looked fine so we never took it in..until it started making a funny noise each time it rained. Water getting up around the muffler was causing horrible vibrations because there was a small kink in it from the wreck. Since we didnt take it in after the wreck, it wasnt turned in so we had to pay out of pocket to fix it.

Why didnt you go into an urgent treatment center today and get checked out?

I agree with everyone, get the car checked out. I had a similar accident a few years ago. They ended up having to replace the bumper even though nothing looked wrong! Make sure you also get checked out by a doctor! You never know!

KSigkid 05-17-2009 05:19 PM

Glad it wasn't more serious. Definitely get yourself checked out, as well as your vehicle.

Also..maybe it's just the insurance law person in me, but I wouldn't necessarily post pictures or too much detail about the accident online.

Thought about it because it's not like was I dying or heavily injured so I am going to see my PCP in the morning.

I am trying to not be one of those sue-happy people that is trying to take this kid for nothing that he has...but I will get my doc to check me out.

gotcha...thank you

aephi alum 05-17-2009 06:41 PM

Glad you are not seriously hurt (that's "you" plural - you and the other driver).

I have both been there and done that. Connecticut drivers suck.

You could have whiplash - sometimes it isn't immediately evident, but you may be feeling it tomorrow morning.

Make sure your adjuster sees your car before you have ANY work done. I can pretty much guarantee you that you'll need a new bumper - bumpers typically protect you in collisions where your relative speed is < 5mph, and just by looking at the pictures of the other car, I can tell you the other driver was going faster than that.

Take care.

cheerfulgreek 05-17-2009 08:00 PM

Daemon, I'm glad you're o.k. but still go to the doctor.

BabyPiNK_FL 05-17-2009 08:33 PM

That happened to me. Only I'm pretty sure the guy was high because he yelled at me, lied to me, told the police he KNEW me and was following me from a club (I was coming back from Relay for Life in my lettters and shorts!). He had no insurance on the car (but he claimed he did and gave them the wrong info so I had to do all the run around to find out that I was getting nothing). He had a suspended license. AND I couldn't even reach him at his listed number. He had prior arrests for thefts in my county (Lord only knows about the county he lives in).

At least your guy was nice and HE got more severe damage. Why the police report lists his damage as more than mine when mine was clearly visible and his was not, I do not know...

Thanks.

I'm glad your injuries don't seem to be serious, but you may be sore for a few days. Definitely see your doctor. Then have the adjuster inspect your car. He will probably recommend a preferred shop which gives the company a discount.

I was T-boned while stopped at a red light by a guy in an SUV exiting a gas station. He never got out of his car to check on me to see if I had survived! His only, and I mean only, concern was for his German Shepherd who growled at me when I approached his car to see if he were OK. So I got back in my car, called the cops and filed a claim against his carrier. I had my car repaired and they paid my medical bills, lost wages plus commissions I might have earned and a decent sum for my pain and suffering, which were made worse by his lack of concern for me and my injuries and his ill behaved dog. I'm glad the dog was OK but he needed to be enrolled in obedience school or at least Miss Manner's Academy for Dogs! So did his owner.

Nevertheless, prepare to get quite a few mailings from lawyers and chiropractors. Sometimes my brethren at the bar embarrass me so much.

Glad you're okay.

Sorry to hear about your accident! Last time I was in one, I, unfortunately, was the idiot looking at her radio! Very expensive lesson learned!!

Hope you (and your car) are not damaged :)

The only way you could have been severely injured or killed is if you were getting oral gratification from your secretary on your lunch break. Seriously? It was a fender bender. My brother rear-ended a roofing truck going 45mph when it was stopped and he was ok. Why were you yielding an intersection? How fast was the other car going? Obviously if you were somewhere that it'd be safe enough for you to yield the intersection, neither of you could have been going that fast. So I'm sure neither one of you could have been severely injured or killed unless some kind of freak incident happened during the accident.

Lighten up. Both of you are ok. You got the sympathy that you were obviously looking for. Move on.

Lighten up?

Seriously? Lighten up?

And why was I yielding?

Probably because I was:

1. Obeying the law and
2. Just a possibility that there was other traffic coming that I just SIMPLY could not drive into thus the YIELD SIGN in the first place?

How fast was the other car going? Uhhh being that I don't have EYES behind my head, I don't rightly KNOW!

Lighten up? I want you to put yourself in our places and
see how 'light' you could be especially if you haven't ever been there before.

I am cool actually and GLAD that I can somewhat laugh this off a bit.

BUT..You weren't there, you don't know what happened and your snark wasn't needed and would have been best kept to yourself.

Regardless of how much I may dislike someone, I can't bring myself down low enough to make light of a situation like this like you did.

And before you decide to go there, I don't plan on having an e-shouting match with you, if you want to be miserable, do so on your own time.

glad to hear you're okay.

when I read the quoted line I almost did a double take because I thought it said you were going to do some PCP in the morning. Totally different meaning.

A few years ago, right after I got my new car, some bozo girl plowed in to my car. She had a bandage on her sprained wrist and she was trying to drive a stick shift.. She had only had the car for a short time and didn't know how to drive one!

Yes lighten up.

If there was a yield sign for you to yield to, I'm guessing that you weren't on a major road and that the maximum speed limit would have been less than 30mph?

That was my point.

And actually had someone stupidly rear-ended me and jacked up their car and my car made it out ok I'd be laughing.

Posting threads like this is almost like the "OMG you guys are all mean I'm not coming back to GC give me sympathy wah wah wah".

I went there.
