ambitious1 10-09-2001 11:19 AM

I am so looking forward to attending my homcoming, it's the
100th anniversary of my beloved institution Grambling State University. I have no doubt that it be off the chain.

Let me check my schedule - -

I'm going to NC A&T State University Homecoming this weekend to see my godbaby (I can't believe he is old enough to be in college) play

Next weekend FSU - Fayetteville State University will be my host as I hang with the Brothers of APhiA; and of course

Feb 28 NCCU - North Carolina Central University. Look out for me and my old aunt. She will be the sister in the tight leather - thinking she is still fly at 46.

tickledpink 10-19-2001 02:09 AM

I went to Smith's Homecoming.

I have 2 words to say... We Won!!!!

Livingstone's band had a nice breakdown, but their horns were missing too many notes!

Smith's sound & breakdown was nice.

You mean to tell me you all allow the visiting band to perform during 1/2 time at homecoming?

We don't. Our 1/2time show is for our ALUMNI BAND and DANCERS to do their thang and the current band and dancers perform. The other band just has to sit in the stands and watch like the rest of us.

It's funny to see the SEASONED alumni come back perpin' like they are still on campus.

One week...IT'S GONNA BE ON!!! :D

We always do. We don't have an alumi band, but we've talked about getting one of those together. I, for one, am afraid to look all stiff and crazy, or even worse, like the old man in the club.

ClassyLady 10-21-2001 04:13 AM

Well, of course FAMU won their Homecoming Football Game and the Marching 100 put on a wonderful show.

The Greek Stepshow was really good too. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the men of Iota Phi Theta. They put on a great show and it was totally unexpected. I don't personaly know any of the Iota's at Fam and I must say that I underestimated their abilities.

Does anyone know who the official winners were? I can take a guess at it but I want anything that I post to be as accurate as it can be.

The Alumni Band is just a "concept" per se.

See, old heads (any former band members) come back and they get together like Thursday, Friday or so and decide what they are gonna do. They know they are gonna do the "GSU Breakdown", a song and then the "old" dancers (Orchesis) do a routine. It's tradition. :D

All the old band members at your school have to do is get together and plan something. This has been going on up there since I was a little girl. The old band members even use the current member's instruments.

ECSU's Homecoming 2001 this weekend was refreshing. I saw some classmates that I hadn't seen since we graduated(I can't believe it has been 10 years). We had a great time catching up.
We won our homecoming game this year against Livingstone.
Our homecoming stepshow is not a competition, we leaved that for the Spring. Every BGLO represented in full effect, except Iotas(because we don't have any on the yard). I must say a Big ZPHIIIIII!!!! to the ladies of the Alpha Gamma Chapter of ZPB Sorority, Inc. for repping the ladies of Finer Womanhood well. Greek Sisterly Love to the other sororities for doing a wonderful job also.

Soulful Soror 10-22-2001 09:18 AM

Aaaaa...I wanna go back in time!!

Hampton's Homecoming was off-da-hook! My emotions are so mixed...on the one hand I'm so SATISFIED that I went & saw all of those young boys & girls that became young men & women! On the other hand, I want it not to have happened & be coming up this weekend..so I can do it all over again!

There was SOOOOO much love! A lot of people's names slipped my mind, but just about EVERYONE looked the exact SAME! It was unbelievable...guys that we thought would never have enough money to by a greyhound ticket out of Hampton have MORTGAGES??? What???

People are married, having or have already had their kids! The new Student Union with its bowling alley, fitness center, game room, etc., visiting our old dorms, the water front....Oh, & then the "old school" party! It was like classes from 89-92 were represented! That was the most phenomenal part of the whole weekend. We stepped right back into time! I mean, there were no little young hoochies walking around in bras & panties (well..there was this girl with what looked like a bra on..but, I digress)...there wasn't a lot of freaks freakin' on the floor like you see in clubs now! Everyone was truly & geniunely enjoying themselves & each other. I think I only had one drink the whole night, which it usually takes me about 2 to unwind & get relaxed in the crowd I'm in...

Oh, & lesson #1 that I learned from this weekend, if you hear some crazy story about people from school...just take it with a grain of salt. There were several people that I'd had heard stuff about from various people, when I saw them this weekend & asked "how's that going?"..they were like "what? that's not true!"

I can sum up my weekend at Hampton's homecoming simply by saying: H-I-U! I love it, I love it, I love it!!!!!!! :D

Ps. I got in too late to see the stepshow on Friday, but Hampton won (of course, I heard this from someone else b/c we NEVER go into the game!)

PinkIvy 10-22-2001 08:25 PM

FAMU's homecoming was tight. . .

I have to agree with, ClassyLady the Iota's did an excellent job at the stepshow. . I caught the tell end of their show, because they we stepped right after them. Unfortunatly with the way the did the prizes there were only three winners.
Overall winner ---the Iotas
1st runner up fraternity--The Beta Nu Chapter of A Phi A
1st runner up sorority--the Zeta's but I don't know where they were from.

If any one attened the step show and taped it, please let me know, because my battery cut off during the Iota's show, so our show as well as the kappa's are not on my tape.

stillwater15 10-23-2001 12:15 AM

i also was at hampton's homecoming this weekend. the campus looked great and the student union building is tight. stepshow was cool (deltas won), traffic was outrageous getting onto and off campus saturday. i saw some outfits that are embedded in my memory. some clothes can't be meant to fit that tightly and lessons should be given in how to walk in heels.

AKA2D '91 10-28-2001 07:16 PM

Yeah, I was there!

Let's just say that I only have had 5 hours of sleep.
Let's just say that I am tired as all get out!

HC the only reason I logged on was to give you the results of our step show and to tell you how I had a wonderful time seeing many of my LSs. Some of them I hadn't seen in like 8 years!

Grambling State University's Pre-Bayou Classic Stepshow Results:
(In 30 degree weather outside in our stadium)

FIRST PLACE: Alpha Theta chapter of Alpha Kappa Allllllpha Sorority, Inc. (THE NEO'S got off ya'll!);) :D
2nd: Zeta Phi Beta
3rd: Delta Sigma Theta (Delta Iota Chapter)

1st Place: Alpha Phi Alpha (Delta Sigma Chapter) (Came hard, as usual!)
2nd Place: Omega Psi Phi (Gamma Gamma Chapter)
3rd Place: Phi Beta Sigma

SIDEBAR: The Sorors and the Alphas will be joined by the Omegas and the Zetas to compete in the Bayou Classic Step show. This is a first.

SU peeps are you all having 2 reps coming down, too to compete?

I did see one of our GC Sorors. She's not a regular, though.I hadn't seen her in yearrrrrrrrs.

QMurda 10-29-2001 05:30 PM

Hello to all and greetings from an Iota Man. I am posting in regards to the FAMU Homecoming stepshow. The team that one were the Iotas from the Gamma Omicron Chapter (University of Florida), not FAM (although there is a chapter there).

I recently graduated from Univ. of Florida and we have half of our show recorded. ClassyLady we can step with the best of them, unfortunately there aren't enough of us YET to attend all the stepshows that take place. Actually we are known as the top step steam in the state of Florida.

Now PinkIvy, if you ever get a copy of the tape could you doub one for me (I'm willing to pay). Although I am a native Tallahassean, I did not have time to see my chapter bruhs step and unfortunately they only taped half of their show :-(

my email addy is centaurianpride@hotmail.com

Thanks!

What is up with these outfits? Hampton never went out like that while I was there! Hampton has always been on the side of class and not crass. Was it a local or a student attired in this matter?

Soulful Soror 11-01-2001 11:45 PM

Hmm...Yep...she might have been a local...

I don't know...she may have been a local...b/c she was standing all alone...just kind of looking around...po thang...:( & I agree with you on us Hamptonians reppin' with class, not crass...when my friends from high school & I applied (back in the day) to Hampton...everybody thought we were lying when we told them we had to send a photo of ourselves with our application...Are they still doing that?? This one guy I know said that he believed us after visiting "the Home by the Sea"...b/c he said he didn't see not one ugly person on the entire campus! (LOL!)

Morehouse/Spelman Homecoming 2001

The theme this year was "School Daze"..SGA did a pretty good job of setting up homecoming activites. The highlight of the week was definitely the homecoming concert with so many BIG-NAME acts I couldn't possibly list them all here.

The stepshow was ok..I 've seen better.

The Alphas held it down as usual, but on the women's side the AKAs were robbed of a trophy and $2000 by the Deltas....ask anybody who was there.

DELTABRAT 11-02-2001 02:00 PM

Alias:

I was there and although I am biased and happy that my Sorors won, I can be woman enough to say that the AKAs step team was tight as all get out. Robbed may be a little harsh as the step team themselves have nothing to do with the fact that they won the show. I just KNEW that the AKAs won the show after they stepped. Up to that point I felt DST had it hands down considering the first team that stepped.

Perhaps it is because the AKAs didn't appear to have incorporated the theme into the step. Most teams wore attire that was incorporated into whatever theme was chosen (apparently School Daze). AKAs, clean as they were, stepped in skirts and heels. Who knows what the criteria were.

I didn't know the theme was School Daze. I really had a hard time following the theme as people were incorporating themes from movies, etc.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. I felt the show could have been better myself but it was the first time I had ever been to a Morehouse/Spelman Homecoming so I didn't have a frame of reference for comparison.

yeah, i saw her, while i was in the student center, eating lunch. there were guys all around me and not one of them thought her outfit was appropriate for anything but hookin'. i don't know if she was a hu student or an outsider, but she sure was a conversation piece. after all i saw that weekend, i'm convinced there should be classes on how to walk in heels.
