Meeting AlphaGams in Random Places

I believe this thread was erased :(

I just wanted to say that I "randomly met" an AlphaGam this weekend when I was at the Mall of GA this weekend! :0) I was at Victoria's Secret and at checkout the girl said "Are you an AlphaGam?" (I was wearing a shirt), and she told me she was an AGD from North GA. I chit chatted and she told me that North GA chapter had 75 sisters and was looking fwd to spring rush :) (that's when the sororities have their formal rush) I've always been impressed by their chapter at IRD :)

I'll have to make sure I stop by to say Hi when I go shopping up there! Theta Delta's seem to be everywhere, lol!:)

Here's a cute story..Dot Keith who pledged at Psi (Alabama) many years ago was finally initiated at Convention this summer. Seems that she was in school with one of the original advisors to Gamma Tau at West Georgia!

Lisa Fishman 10-01-2001 06:56 PM

Nina, Isn't that the second AGD you met at Mall of Ga? They're all over!!!!
I thought I might post my story again. When I was house hunting, I walked into one home and noticed a large collection of squirrels. I then saw pictures of a child from my class. (I'm a pre school teacher) When I got back to my house I looked up her name in the Alumnae directory. The same address and her name was listed. It turns out she is a mom of a child we have in class. I have her younger children in my class now.
Teaching at the same school is a girl I met from the Gamma Upsilon chapter. Lisa

I just wanted to say that was a sister from my chapter. Her name is Melba...she mentioned at chapter tonight. But just to make a correction, we only have 70 sisters, but we will get more when we go through formal recruitment in January!!! And thanks for the compliment about being impressed!

AlphaGam1019 10-02-2001 05:22 PM

Whitney,

Don't say ONLY when you are talking about having 70 sisters! That's the chapter total at VSU!

As Lisa knows, I'm really horrible with names :) Melba was really nice :)

I asked the mom about if she was an Alpha Gam. She got all animated and excited about it. She said it was difficult for her to get involved because she has three young kids. She said she keeps in touch with her friends from her earlier AGD days though.

I know, I know this is a really old thread but..... I found out today I have a second AGD mom in my class. (I'm a preschool teacher). Today we had parent teacher confrences and this mom was wearing one of those oval pinky rings ingraved with AGD on it. Anyway, when I got home I looked her up in the alumnae directory and I saw that she was from Eta (DuPauw)sp? .

AGDLynn 01-31-2003 10:33 PM

One of my fav "older" alumnae was the Province Director or type type of "big squirrel" when I was in school. She was from DePauw. Her daughter was one of the founding GTaus!

When I moved to KNoxville several years ago,I joined a playgroup in my chuch. One day the 7 of us were talking about college. I was serving as a PDA at that time and found out that 2 of the women in this group of 7 were Alpha Gams. One was a GT and the other sister was from a chapter in MO. Small world.

I have moved several times and meet Alpha Gams everywhere. My Jr. League district group had 2 as well.

When I was a collegiate ,our group had an Advisor that said ,"Kudzu, mobile homes and Alpha Gams are takin' over the world..." it's never seemed more true.

not sure if i have shared this.....

About a year after i started my current job, my boss was packing for a trip to London. She asked if I had a pullover or something like that she could borrow. I said--well the only one I have has my letters on it. She told me "that will be fine, I don't mind" I am thinking how do I politely tell her NO she is not wearing my letters--she then smiled and said --"oh I never told you I am an Alpha Gam also"
I know I never mentioned being greek to here--- it was on my resume-- she knew I was an Alpha Gam before she ever interviewed me--- and she never said anything!!! I would have been all over that one!!!!

In 2000, a few of the girls from my chapter took a spring break trip to Disney World. We decided to have letter day one of the days we were there, and a couple of us met an AGD from Miami. It was very cool. :)

random alpha gams

i came home this week to cincinnati for the first time in a long time and i had to go to the tanning bed b/c i've been working really hard on my tan and i didn't want to lose it! anyhow, i went to this local place for the first time, and i happened to be wearing one of my alpha gam sweatshirts. the girl working at the tanning salon looked up and saw it and said she was an alpha gam. it's so much fun to see alpha gams when you least expect it! we're everywhere!

mu_agd 05-14-2003 08:55 PM

so i was walking from my t stop to my apt building after work today, which is honestly about a 2.5 second walk, and i ran into a girl wearing an agd jacket. we chatted for a few minutes and i gave her my card. turns out her roomate is also an agd. it's exciting since i still haven't really met anyone since i moved to boston. maybe i'll have a new friend to go out with now!

UMgirl 05-19-2003 03:59 PM

I am currently on vacation visiting a friend in Chicago. I met an AGD who worked in Victoria's Secret in the Woodfield Mall (Schaumberg)>

squirrely girl 05-20-2003 03:04 AM

okay - total randomness!!!!!!!!

i'm in europe right now on a study abroad history trip. fun fun fun so far - although 'irish pub' does not mean the same thing all over the world.

well i'm in strasburg, france right now and i'm staying in a place called the chateau. low and behold i'm wearing my alpha gam letters last night and one of the girls on another floor starts freaking out - turns out that there are 6 other alpha gams staying here from different schools on trips! one from georgia and the other 5 from illinois wesleyen! rock on! i never thought i'd make it all the way to europe and meet a sister, let alone 6 of them. we're gonna get a picture tonight for the IW recruitment video and my scrapbook!

well i'm off to my class so i'll prolly get 'round to posting later. just thought i'd share my 'international alpha gams' story...

marissa

UMgirl 05-20-2003 10:24 PM

Ha ha. My AGD was a recent grad from Illinois Weslyan too.

ilovemyglo 06-20-2003 03:02 PM

This is SUPER random-
So I am at work today, just minding my own, and I am the receptionist (along with everything else I do!) and I turn around to the front of the office- because I heard the door open and there stands one of my chapter sisters- she graduated two years before me! HEEHEE!! She was coming to call on my boss!
HOW FUNNY!

LeslieAGD 06-21-2003 09:48 AM

I was out driving with my sister yesterday and I saw a car with an older looking Alpha Gam sticker. I rarely see any Greek stickers on cars in my area, so I thought that was cool :)

Designergal3 07-06-2003 01:22 PM

very funny

So what is with all the Alpha Gams working at Victoria's Secrets?

I actually just got hired at the Victoria's Secret Beauty store at the Somerset Collection as a Makeup Artist so if you're in the area please visit! Well the grand opening is Friday. *AHEM* LESLIE COME VISIT ME!!!

I haven't really run into many Alpha Gams in Michigan :( maybe there just aren't enough of us here & most of us are in the south...i don't know :( Maybe if i started wearing my badge around I'd get people talking to me. like in Legally Blonde 2!!!!!

AGDLynn 07-12-2003 10:50 PM

Not Exactly an AGD

Hubby and I went to one of our fav pizza places. I was wearing my AGD poloshirt. As we were being sitted, we realized that hubby's co-worker, wife, child and her mom&s.o. were sitting next to us. Turns out that Jeff, the co-worker, was an Alpha Gam Big Brother at James Madison (Gamma Mu is now inactive).

Guess I wonder why he never questioned all the squirrel stuff in and out of the house!;) :D

AGDLynn 07-21-2003 04:47 PM

Okay so it was planned, lol! Finallly got to meet another AGD Lynn! She pledged Auburn before I pledged WGa. It was very interesting to talk about recruitment then versus now.

I had compiled a list of AGDs in our 2 counties, I don't remember the exact count but it was prob about 25-30. Now if we could get us altogether!

I invited her to the next Panhellenic mtg but she is going to the US Open the next day and prob can't make it. I said come for the dessert, lol!;) :D Maybe her sister and friend-that-I-thought-was-her-cousin can.

Oh, I forgot, when she saw the list, she saw that one of her neighbors whom she doesn't know very well is an AGD! She said she's give her a call! Small world.

AGDLynn 08-07-2003 08:58 PM

Hubby and I went to dinner at OCharlie's. From where I was sitting, I could see the pc where the waitperson enters our menu selections..it's the SQUIRREL program!:D

Halfway through our meal, a waitress walks by and I think "I think I know her" but it didnt' totally register....she's one of my collegians! I didn't recognize her b/c she had her hair pulled up and I knew/thought her hometown was over an hours away. Didn't get a chance to ask what she was doing so far south, lol.

AGDLynn 08-14-2003 05:08 PM

Planned and Random

Four of us AGDs who had never met finally got together for lunch, 2 West Ga, 1 UGA and 1 Auburn. One was going on vacation to an island in the Bahamas or next to the Bahamas..concidentily, one of the AGDs had spent a lot of time at this maybe little known place.

Anyway, as with almost all AGD meetings, I brought my list of AGDs in our 2 counties. There are over 120!! And it is 45 minutes to the nearest chapter (mine)..but not that many alums from WG. It was very interesting to learn who knew who but didn't know they were AGDs!!

Learned that the President of one of our town's BEST interior design shops is an UGA AGD! I had to go downtown anyway so I dropped in to see her. Of course, she wasn't in but I talked to her hubby. When I mentioned where I worked, he asked me if I knew xxxx. I said that we were from the same small town and our moms used to play bridge together. I asked what his wife's name was and I instantly recognized her as being one of the names on my AGD list!!! I stopped by her office to introduce myself but of course she was busy. I didn't tell the receptionist why I wanted to see her, just took a business card and will email her!! Another AGD is on our county's Board of Education!

Oh...and I was driving away from downtown, I was stopped at the redlight and a small car comes by...with red, yellow and green balloon!!!

Then I hurried down to Tech AGD house. to drop off an item..it is soooo cute! I met CurlyAGD and invited her to come to our Wed. and other night chats on GC and/or AOL/AIM.
