The NEW Star Trek
Just came from seeing the advanced screening.
- If you are a Star Trek Fan there are a lot iof inside jokes that you will enjoy - there is some revisionist history that takes place - loved Quinto as Spock, Pegg as Scotty, hated Chekov. - YES! Kirk DOES a green chick! - Emterprise is a love/hate ship - Overall the fan reaction was favorable. If you want a little more insight on the villain Nero, go to iTunes and get the Star Trek Countdown digital comic for 99 cents and check it out |
I just saw the commercial, looks pretty darn awesome. I am not a Star Trek fan either, but I wanna see it.

I didn't have much interest in seeing it until I saw the trailers during the NFL draft. Now I'm definitely going ;p
|
I gave my boyfriend a couple of advance screening passes I had. He is REALLY excited. I would go just to look at Zachary Quinto, but I'll be out of town.
|
Looks exciting to kick off the summer... Make sure you wear a mask, tho...

I was never a big Star Trek (or sci fi movies/book fan). I have seen a couple episodes of the original and the rest of the series.
That said: THIS MOVIE WAS FREAKING AWESOME! I did not want this movie to end. I want the sequel out next week. I want this show to be a regular series. |

Spoiler thread coming Tuesday!!! |
I'm A huge Star Trek Fan. I went to see the movie last night and I was impressed. with the exception of Checkov, the cast did a great job. I was happy to see Leonard Nimoy playing the original Spock as well. The Only sad thing is I still wish William Shatner had a part in it. :(

loved it!
|
I loved it! I grew up with Star Trek and TOS is my favorite. Every time they introduced a character in the movie I got PUMPED! Definitely going to see it again so I can make sure it's still good without the "OMG it's Kirk! OMG it's Spock! OMG it's Bones!" factor.

I went twice yesterday......
My mom and I went to see it yesterday afternoon....She likes Star Trek, but is not a huge fan.....She LOVED it! I went later that night with some friends...hahahaha.....I thought it was brilliant! |
Opinion here from the old ladies section....IT WAS GREAT!!!!
|
I am a HUGE trekkie (TNG) and have been looking forward to this movie since I first saw information about it.
I saw it today and it did not disappoint!!!!!! I aboslutely loved it!!!!! And to OTW I definately second the "yummy" to Chris Pine. Hot, hot, hot! |
My UT son came in for the weekend to surprise me for Mothers Day, so we went as a family (minus oldest) to the IMAX showing of it Saturday night. I LOVED IT!!
I actually cried at the end when they were playing the original music from the series. I cried because I was soooooo HAPPY that they didn't screw it up!! I grew up with the Star Trek series, then when the movies came out, we were die hard fans. I was scared that I would be watching it feeling like the characters weren't right, or that it was too far of a departure from the originals that I wouldn't like it. But, I thought ALL the actors were spot on! Loved our new (younger) Spock, but was so pleased to see Leonard Nemoy!! The new Kirk was great, not a parody (which I was worried about) - but a tribute!! Loved Scottie!! When my kids were young, we would drive to Colorado for skiing vacations, and in our mini van we would set up the VCR-TV and watch back to back to back Star Trek marathons. Such wonderful memories of that. At the end of the movie, my youngest leaned over and said, "We need to add that one to our marathons." Loved that!!! GO SEE IT!!! Even if you're not a Trekie - it is wonderful! |
Did anyone else love the score? I thought it was amazing!!!
|
As a Star Wars junkie, many of us force-addicts support Star Trek to get our sci fi fix...
I liked the movie. It brought some flavor. But I was totally confused with Spock kissing Uhura or vice versa... As a Trekkie purist, I am more use to Kirk's bang-ability... I was wondering what the purpose of that was? And Cho's Sulu--gottdayum sexxxy... I had to fan myself when he kicked azz!!! Oh, and how come the Romulans weren't all broke out in their foreheads like they were in the shows and movies? |
Are you thinking of Klingons?

I am a huge Star Trek fan, and this was an amazing movie. I was like a giddy little girl the whole time. As soon as "Scottie" came on screen, I could not stop giggling.

Best movie EVER!!!

You know I’m going to quote a friend of mine on my feelings about this movie…I loved it during and right after…but then I started thinking…a bad thing I know, but he pretty much summed up some of what I was thinking…this is a good intro/restart for the franchise, I will wait until the 2nd movie to really see how I feel about it.
I will say that I loved Simon Pegg and its all about Karl Urban…now that is a nummy treat! Direct quote from my friend KMD…. I liked the movie. But that's a gimme, the movie was marketed to me. The hard core fan who's also into the beastie boys and boobs. And the whole internet likes it, getting hardcore positives from rotten tomatoes, Harry Knowles shitting himself with joy over it. But this wasn't a Star Trek movie. The phasers were blasters, the Star Ships were X-Wings, Alderaan was destroyed, even Scotty had a freaking Ewok. And of course they destroyed Vuclan, the calm logical mind of the federation. Revenge is not Logical people. There was no higher purpose to Star Fleet, no humanity reaching the best it could, it was shoot the bad guy before he shoots you. The movie was fluff, beautiful lens flarey fluff, but it had no depth, no logic to it, it could have been told in 40 minutes easy. Think back to the best star Trek Movies. Wrath of Khan was Moby Dick. The Voyage Home was Sleepless in San Francisco. And The Undiscovered Country was about 4 different shakespeare themes thrown into a country just getting out of the cold war. They had plots. They had depth. Of course I'm just being an old Fart Fanboy, I remember a time when there were more Klingons then Stormtroopers at Cons. But it bothers me they had to Kill Kirks Dad, Spocks Mom, and an entire World. It was dramatic overkill and lazy storytelling. It's almost like a huge middle finger to continuity. They made such a big thing about putting in little trinkets to appease star trek fans and they ripped out what makes the federation the federation. And nobody seems to care, it's not bothering anybody. Maybe it's because we're at the cool kids table for a bit and we sort of like it, but I'm sort of used to being a bitter outcast for being a Trekkie and I have no problem calling it like I see it. This was not a Star Trek movie. Go see it anyhow. |
