More Mo' Betta Motivation
You may fear the unknown, only seeking to live in the shelter of continuity and predictability. It's difficult to accept any kind of bad news (i.e., divorce, layoff, death of a loved one, illness). You will go through the stages of shock, denial, anger, confusion, guilt and bargaining with God. You can't ignore your feelings but you must learn the lesson they bring. Life can back you up into a corner forcing you to choose between surviving or folding, falling to pieces or staying in peace. Once you learn acceptance, you are able to begin the healing process. Acceptance doesn't mean that you are giving up or that any acts of wrong against you are justified. Acceptance creates a state of mind that is open to serenity, solutions and new beginnings.
Emotional pain can either cause you to shut down or focus on your priorities by asking yourself, "What's my next step?" Take it step by step, day by day. After losing his son to violence, actor Bill Cosby stated in a Larry King interview, "Of course, it hurts, but I'm learning that in triumph, don't jump too high and when tragedy comes, don't sit too long." Here's one of my favorites...
I usually refer back to this one when work gets tough...
Be a Leader in the Midst of Conflict The task of a leader, whether as a manager of professionals, a leader of volunteers, or any other leadership role, requires a commitment to stay with the course regardless of the frustrations that may come. Never is this so true as when you try to help your group manage conflict constructively. Success in leadership comes not from your ability to manage when things are going well, but from the way you handle adversity and the challenge brought to your leadership skills by conflict. As a leader, it is your responsibility to move members past the conflicts that would tear them apart, toward a unity of spirit as they pursue worthy goals. How to help your group manage conflict: * Point those in conflict toward common goals. Identify a common goal that will overshadow the opposing interests of those in conflict and will make them willing to work together toward this goal. Keep in mind what you have in common, not what you disagree about. * Use problem solving. This is characterized by an open and trusting exchange of viewpoints. The group recognized that it can disagree with someone and still be able to work with them or remain friends. Everyone should be asked to give as much relevant information as they have. List the facts and ask for clarification, particularly of opposing ideas. Then encourage the group to search for new information that might shed light on the subject. Create alternative solutions. Don't assume that your first solution is the best. A high-quality solution is one that best fits the common goals of the group. * Focus on the issues, not personalities. It's important to keep your focus on helping people feel accepted and valued even when others criticize their ideas. Don't allow name-calling or placing blame. This leads to defensiveness - and to a more rigid position and poor communication. People in conflict usually are unable, at least for the moment, to cooperate on any issue, and simply telling them to cooperate is not particularly helpful. * Keep everyone informed about what is happening. The more information that is shared and the more that people are informed, the less threatening the experience. Servant leadership is characterized by openness, by an ability to listen, and by engaging people directly in the issues. * Share rewards for success; share responsibility for failure. At the heart of the learning organization is the ability to evaluate what has happened and learn from it. Analyze your experiences, examine them, reflect on them, and struggle to understand them. Remember that it is acceptable to make mistakes as long as you make them in good conscience while doing the best you can. ----------- Shirley Schooley is an author, speaker, teacher, college professor, mother, and pastor's wife. I absolutely loved this one!!!
Feeling overwhelmed and stressed from dealing with delays, disease, debt, divorce, death and disappointments can leave you feeling weak and defeated.
It's time to take some courage vitamins to heal and strengthen your faith and well-being. Use every ounce of your courage, faith and gratitude to keep growing and showing up for life. Form a new strategy for winning in your mind. Be creative. Give yourself a pep talk. Take a deep breath and get back in the game of life. "We all live in suspense from day to day; In other words, you are the hero of your own story." --- Mary McCarthy "The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses. It is won behind the scenes, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights." --- Muhammad Ali "Don't wish me happiness I don't expect to be happy all the time... II Corinthians 10:3-5
"For though we walk in the flesh we do not war after the flesh; (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into existence every thought to the obedience of Christ;". When you have a security leak in your soul, fear and worry are like terrorists that can destroy your life. Tighten up your security by putting on your shield of faith. Use the word of God as your sword to cut through the depression and anxiety.
When you have no boundaries or borders anybody and anything can get in your spirit. Don't allow the enemy to use crazymakers, negative thinkers, dream stompers and playahaters to knock you down to ground zero. No matter how many times you fall or fail, never give up. Learn from each experience. You can build inner strength, faith and conviction to keep pressin' on in spite of it all. Don't allow fear, procrastination or worry to block your blessings. Use every ounce of your courage, faith and gratitude to keep growing and showing up for life. Form a new strategy for winning in your mind. Give yourself a pep talk. Take a deep breath and get back in the game of life. Listen to some motivating and uplifting music like McClurkin's song to remind you that when you fall down, you can get back up again. Hang in there and know that your change is coming. Stay in the Light, Motivational Speaker and Best Selling Author Jewel Diamond Taylor |

In the Bible, the book of ECCESIASTES was written by one of David's sons (it's unknown if this is Solomon, but most contribute this book to Solomon). In this book he (the writer) talks about his sorrows and disappointments of life and now tries to discover the true value and meaning of life through God.

Mo Betta Relationships
Relationships Tips from the Self-esteem Doctor's Relationship Clinics
Try to be honest without being vicious. Be mutual without invading the other's privacy. Be trusting without being blind. Admire and adore without idolizing. Be a giver without controlling. Love without possessing. Nurture your own soul so you can attract your soul mate. If you trust too soon, you are probably afraid of being alone. If you trust too superficially, you may be easily betrayed. If you trust too late, you may never know about love and intimacy. Don't let your reality check bounce. Relationships can bring joy and pain. You will both learn a lot about each other and your own emotional stuff that needs healing. Learn to work through your issues and remember the attraction and qualities that brought you together in the first place. That child, parent, coworker, boss, friend, lover or spouse in your life is not perfect and neither are you. People are both human and divine. Disappointments are to be expected and accepted. Don't jump ship at the first sign of trouble. You'll end up all alone in this world, if you never learn forgiveness, communication, trust, compromise, service, a sense of humor and self-esteem. More Motivation...
Stay focused today on your priorities. I know there may be distractions and drama in your life trying to pull you away from peace. It takes courage to face each day. You can make it through. You were not born with the spirit of fear. You have the ability, power and choice to grow through your problems. You never conquer them. You only learn to conquer yourself.
Persevere. Be optimistic. Think big but take small steps. Help others and show acts of kindness. Believe in yourself. Have faith that God loves you, guides you, provides for you and protects you. The past just came and went. So let go of the worry, hurry and fear. Life is good. God is good. Live, listen, learn, laugh, love and live with integrity, balance, compassion, purpose and great hope. Question of the Week
Q - I have been asking myself this question all week.
What will it take for me to leave this job and seek my own greatness? At what point did you realize that you had to get out and do something. I know if I get out and just do it. I know that the rewards are endless, however, something is keeping me from taking that chance. How did you go about this change? A - I have been on this journey for over 16 years. It wasn't easy and you know what, it still isn't easy. That "something" that you think is keeping you back is either fear, procrastination or cautionary good sense. With every decision comes risk and rewards. I worked countless part-time and temp jobs. I've been married, so my income has always been supplemented. I made the decision to downgrade my lifestyle. So I don't have the fancy cars, fancy home and many of the materialistic things that a lot of people in my industry have accumulated. I enjoy my freedom and my ability to work at my own pace. I have a J-O-Y, not just a J-O-B. I do not have the benefits that come from working a secure job. This is my decision. I never know from month to month what my income will be. But I believe through the grace of God and my commitment, all of my needs have been met. I strive daily to be a good steward over my income, home, time, anointing and my gifts. To avoid heavy debt, I try to simplify and streamline my lifestyle. Yet I feel my life is very rich. The joy and reward is in the work itself and the wonderful people I meet. I call this my emotional compensation. Now don't get me wrong, my income far exceeds what I earned working at my previous job in Human Resources. However, as an "entreprenegro," I must be disciplined to spend wisely and reinvest back into my business. Being self-employed is like a marriage. Sometimes marriage gets difficult, lonely and uncertain and I want to leave. Sometimes being self-employed is difficult, lonely and uncertain and I want to leave. Every day I have to recommit to my partnership with God. God is the head of my life and my business. My trust is in the Lord and in my abilities to serve with professionalism, patience, passion and perseverance. I've learned a lot of expensive and painful lessons because in my earlier years I had no mentors or role models to study. I commend you for reaching out and asking the questions before you take your leap. Continue seeking, studying and observing others. One day you will know when it's your time. It doesn't mean you won't have your share of disappointments and a learning curve too. But you will feel such a compelling desire to cross that bridge and never look back. When you have the time, read the poem below that was given to me by a coworker at my farewell party when I said good bye to my full time job to pursue my professional speaking career in 1985. There have been just as many low points as there have been high points. I would suggest that you take your time and work on your dream part time. If you have a financial nest egg and something and someone to fall back on, then go for it! If not, dream big while taking small steps to reach your goal. No day is wasted. One day you'll wake up and realize you're already there. Success is in the doing. Success is in the dreaming. Success is in moving forward, step by step, day by day, prayer by prayer, lesson by lesson. I hope this helps. Where are you going next year? Diana Ross sang a profound theme song from the movie Mahogany:
"Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life's been showing you? Where are you going to? Do you know? Do you get what you're hoping for? When you look behind you there's no open doors What are you hoping for? Do you know?" Living your life without a plan or goals is like being in a car with no steering wheel. Clear goals give you direction. Your faith and health are your fuel energy to keep you going. You will need them because of the obstacles, bad weather, bumps, valleys, mountains to climb, flat tires and unexpected detours on your road to success. Every January for the past 15 years I have taught a Super Goal Saturday workshop to help people identify and achieve their goals and dreams. Wherever you are, find support to help you achieve your goals in the new year. Create your 2002 map. Turn your resolutions into results. Procrastination is a thief. Anger
ANGER
(sample article from Jewel Diamond Taylor's web site) http://members.aol.com/jeweldiam/home.htm http://members.aol.com/jeweldiam/home.htm When life hurts and you find yourself either mad at someone else, mad at yourself or mad with God ... you will either begin to withdraw, resent, abuse, misuse, procrastinate or neglect the important things in your life. Anger is one letter short of DANGER! It consumes. It kills. It blocks your blessings. It destroys relationships. It ruins your health. It repels success. It robs you of peace of mind. It blinds and binds you. Anger can paralyze and keep you stuck on stupid. Anger expressed appropriately is only good if it mobilizes you to take action. Depression happens when you internalize your anger by denying and suppressing it. Aggression is the result when your anger is externalized and expressed it too much. Both are unhealthy and not advisable. Sometimes the anger can be so subtle that you don't even realize that you are neglecting your health, your grooming, your goals/dreams, your family, your house or your job. The anger can be so subtle that you put your happiness on layaway waiting until "someday" to enjoy the gift of life. Don't allow old hurts or disappointments keep you from living with gratitude, hope, joy, love, peace, forgiveness, faith and action. The past has passed. Breathe! Breathe! Breathe! Be totally present in this moment, in this day, in your body, in your home, in your job, in your mind and in your heart. Write down on a piece of paper what you are angry about. Put it into perspective. Pray about it. Tell the truth. Do you have control over what happened? What role, if any, did you have in participating in your own misery? Are you willing to let it go and grow? Why do you want to hold on to it? Is it necessary? Can these feelings mobilize you to do something about? Are you tired of carrying the pain? Do you want to feel better? Do you want revenge or do you want renewal? Do you want more peace or more pain? Eccl. 7:9 "Anger rests in the bosom of fools." Don't get mad with those who have hurt you. Get even with those who have helped you. (excerpt from "Success Gems" book by Jewel Diamond Taylor) http://www.jeweldiamondtaylor.net/SHOP.htm (*The bolding was done by Ideal08*) |
Why do we take to heart what the critics say to us in our lives? Why do we become deaf, shy, resistant, afraid or doubt what people say to us about our gifts, talents and skills? Why do we sabotage, suppress and sit on our gifts? Do you listen to those who belittle you or to those who believe in you?
Some people are afraid to allow God to use them because they would have to move out of fear and comfort into a realm of trust. There is something special and unique about you. YOU are an instrument of God. There are people who need what you have to offer. You have within you the potential to bless so many lives. Don't let misguided people use and abuse you. Let God use you. Do the inner work to tap into your goals, gifts and glory. Acknowledge and accept your personal power. Let your light shine. Give it. Show it. Be it. Do it. Say it. Live it! Whenever I start doubting myself, I read this powerful statement the legendary performing arts dancer, Martha Graham, would teach her students... "There is a vitality, a life-force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open." by Jewel Diamond Taylor, The "Inner-Tainer" Motivational Speaker, author, columnist, radio/TV personality Attend Jewel Diamond Taylor 15th Annual Super Goal Saturday Workshop Saturday, January 12, 2001 Grow from resolutions to results! Living Single During the holidays
Single sisters get ready to enjoy a wonderful Christmas instead of a ChristMESS. For so many the holidays can mean depression, debt and drama! But it doesn't have to be so! Listen up sisters. Being single doesn't mean you have to be left out of the holiday cheer and joy. Take the stress and mess out of your Christmas. You will find yourself in the valley of depression wishing for a Hallmark Card Christmas and listening to those sad, romantic, kiss me under the mistle toe songs. This season is about celebrating the birth of Jesus. So let the fruits of spirit be alive in you (joy, peace, harmony, gratitude and love). Try some of these holiday activities and tips.
1. You' re creating stress if you're trying to impress. Don't allow the pressure of society, media hype and holidays to put you in debt. 2. Come on sisters, respond to the holiday invitations. Get out of the house of blues. Try not to soothe your broken heart by over indulging in food, alcohol, shopping or sleeping. Don't ask for trouble by calling up that ol' boyfriend out of your desperation and loneliness. In surveying many single women, I heard a lot of self-esteem, giving and entertaining. For the most part, many single women expressed their acceptance of the single life and coped with their emotions by acts of kindness to others. So many of them slowed their pace during the holiday season for quiet time to reflect, rest and remember they are still whole woman whether they spend the holidays in a relationship or not. 3. Don't allow excuses (i.e., family grudges, my house needs painting, I need new furniture, I don't have enough chairs) to keep you from enjoying family and friends. Being around laughter and good food is healing. If your money is a low, don't be embarrassed to ask everyone to bring a dish (sweet potato pie, peach cobbler, greens, macaroni and cheese or the beverages). Even if everyone has to bring a chair because you have only one couch, so what! Ask them to bring a chair and a card table. 4. Attention single parents, don't allow your children to pressure you into spending and shopping until you drop. Stay within your budget. Your children's begging, harassment or tantrums can stress you out. Don't put yourself into financial bondage or they will buy you a first class ticket on a guilt trip. 5. Celebrating Kwanzaa does not replace your traditional religious celebration. It is 7 days to reflect and reinforce positive values for your family, community and spiritual enrichment as you come to the end of a year and contemplate the new year. Attend a Kwanzaa program in your community or create a simple yet memorable ceremony with your loved ones and friends in your home or place of worship. 6. The spirit and fun of giving is always a favorite Christmas activity (i.e., gifts and meals for women and children in transitional housing). 7. Maybe you've been superwoman all year. The holidays are a perfect time to slow your pace, enjoy some quiet time. You're free of all the mad frenzy of preparing a big family meal, entertaining the in-laws and cleaning up afterwards. You can sit back, put in your favorite movie or CD, light a candle, and smile because you are FREE to sleep in late. Many stress free singles enjoy poetry readings, plays, traveling and concerts. If you're a "people person" and enjoy entertaining maybe these experiences will give you some ideas. "I had Christmas brunch at my home one year. I made my home festive and pretty, wore a fabulous hostess caftan, set out my best stemware, wine, sparkling ciders and made up a menu of delicious appetizers and finger foods. I baked cookies (nephews and nieces are good at helping in this---and it gives their moms and dads time to purchase and wrap presents while they are at your house!) and invited everyone to drop in all day." "I organize and hold a Christmas Tree decorating party in my home, for ladies only...each guest brought a special ornament for the tree and a dish to be enjoyed by all" "We enjoy the Twelve Days of Christmas Dessert Event, every day someone has to bring in a different dessert or recipe." "I invite all my friends to bring their own sewing machines, potluck, and projects to my home for a day of quilting, laughing, fun, food and sisterhood." "I host a Christmas brunch for all my single friends, they come in their Christmas pajamas with a dish, we sing Christmas songs and exchange gifts." You can be traditional or radical. You can be a social butterfly or enjoy your solitude. Create your own tradition. Create your own fun. by Jewel Diamond Taylor, Speaker and Author http://members.aol.com/jeweldiam/home.htm |

opportunities and people you need will show up. First you must show up! You must get up! You must overcome the fear and procrastination. Come on now! These are important steps to reach your goals this year from motivational speaker and author, Jewel Diamond Taylor:
1) Take care of your health. You need energy, stamina and clear thinking to fly with the eagles. 2) You don't need a lot of people, just the right people in your life. Start networking and making positive alliances. 3) People will respect and respond to your tenancity. Hang in there. 4) Your goals require discipline and determination. Put some iron in your soul. Get up and do the things you don't want to do so that later you can do the things you want to do. 5) Things that are out of sight are out of mind. USE and keep a big calendar in sight to keep you organized and on track. 6) Think it. Ink it. Get it out of your head and on paper. Avoid generalizations. Be specific about your goals. 7) Observe your learning style. If you are a visual learner, read books and watch inspirational/motivational videos. If you are an auditory learner, listen to motivational tapes at least once a week. 8) Have a feedback system so that you are accountable to someone for your progress. 9) Keep your faith strong with prayer, praise and worship. 10) Change is a part of life. Expect the unexpected. Remain focused yet flexible. 11) Have balance and some fun to avoid burnout. Don't neglect family, friends and some fun which reduce stress. 12) Set yourself up to win. Set small achievable goals. Reward yourself. Give yourself points. Build on the small successes. Thing big but take small steps. This is a sample of the success principles that I will be teaching at the 15th Annual Super Goal Saturday Workshop, January 12, 2002 Radisson Hotel, 6161 Centinela, Culver City, CA 10AM - 2 PM. You can register at the door. $35 per person includes workbook - $25 person without workbook. To reserve your seat and workbook call 323-964-1736 Stay in the Light, http://www.donotgiveup.net/ |
There may something that you want to do or don't want to do. There may be a voice within telling you not now, slow down, get started or change directions. There may be a voice telling you that he is the one, she is the one or... no, he is not the one and no, she is not the one. There may be a voice within telling you to let go or to hold on. There may be a voice within telling you to stay or to go. Be true to yourself. Be true and honor God's voice and direction for your life. Trust and be smart with whom you share your thoughts, goals and decisions.
These lyrics from the movie "The Wiz" are inspiring food for thought: Believe In Yourself If you believe within your heart you'll know that no one can change the path that you must go Believe what you feel and know you're right, because the time will come around when you say it's yours Believe in yourself, right from the start You'll have brains You'll have a heart You'll have courage to last your whole life through Stay in the Light, Jewel Diamond Taylor |
Before you walk away, give up or walk out... hang in there. Giving up on someone or giving up on yourself may not be the best thing right now. You've come too far to throw it all away. No life, job, child, boss, friend, parent or mate is perfect. Dig a little deeper to find your courage, patience, love and faith. You can do it. You can make it! You can take your life to a new level! Do the right thing! Do what's best for your family and for your life. Every morning new mercies you will see.
When the enemy knocks on your door today disguised as temptation, procrastination, worry, impatience, fear or anger... ask Jesus to answer the door. "The faithful will abound with blessings." - Proverbs 28:20 Stay in the light, http://www.donotgiveup.net/ Jewel Diamond Taylor |
