Harper's Island-- anyone else watching?

Thoughts?

I thought it was pretty good so far...

KSig RC 04-10-2009 05:50 PM

Really? I thought it was laughably contrived - I was shocked Stephen King wasn't involved somehow. But then again, I'm somewhat predisposed against these sorts of "serial thrillers" - it just seems like a stupid medium. Why is this going on for multiple weeks?

I recorded it on the DVR. The ads for it looked good but I was exhausted that night and needed sleep more than TV. I will post after watching it.

"Laughably contrived" is the perfect description. I turned it off halfway through.

Very mysterious! My son and I sat down to watch this together and hit "Play" and it was a totally black screen. He tried to fast forward, nothing. He tried the "Skip to the end" button and totally black. It didn't record. I don't feel badly about it after reading this thread.

We're 3 episodes in now. It's bad TV at its finest :p However, I do like the idea of Bowen Island standing in for Harper's Island and the house at Cecil Green Park standing in for the Candlewick Inn.

What I do like is that it's a mix of "Scream" and "And Then There Were None", particularly since no one has caught on yet that people are starting to go missing, due to their being murdered.

Go to this webpage for Bowen Island and you'll see lots of the "real" Harper's Island. No one was ever killed there though (to my knowledge). I think the cop (yes, singular) goes home on the 6:00pm ferry to the mainland....LOL It's about a 20 minute ride.

I stopped recording it and never did watch an episode after y'all were not impressed. I don't really NEED another thing to keep me in front of the TV.

Does anyone have any theories on who the killer might be? Some people think that it's Sherriff Charlie Mills (wow..the Chief of Police is named Charlie...how very "TWILIGHT" of them...LOL), because when he chased John Wakefield off the cliff, the killings stopped. However, I don't believe that Wakefield's body was recovered (need to verify if this tombstone is just an empty grave or not), so maybe Mills basically created an "alibi" in Wakefield.

Other forums have suggested that it's Abby Mills. But if it's something stupid like a split personality / mental illness (a la "The Uninvited"), I will be very annoyed. What a rip off that would be.

I'm starting to wonder if it is the jilted boyfriend, Jimmy Mance? I don't think it's either of those 2 weirdos, J.D. nor Shane.
========
Okay, is anyone watching the "Harper's Globe" webisodes? In the episode called "The Key" there appears to be a fraternity connection with "Kappa Delta Delta". It looks like two guys were kidnapped for a hazing / intitiation ritual. Hmm....very interesting. I wonder if there is a weird "secret society cult" angle to the whole Harper's Island show? Hmmmmmm...............

Same here. The hyped-up comparisons to "And Then There Were None" interested me, but Agatha Christie this ain't.

CutiePie2000 06-22-2009 01:32 AM

I'm still watching. The killer finally showed up, now that we're on Episode 10. It's been quite the slice and dice fest. 3 episodes to go, when we find out what the big motive was.

I thought the finale's next week?

No, Thursday, July 9th is the last episode (we get it on Thursdays, the American cousins get it on Saturdays, so July 11 for you guys south of the border)

Wikipedia, soothsayer of all truth and knowledge, says that the run concludes on July 11th.

WinniBug 06-23-2009 08:40 AM

we're all right.
tvgiude.com doesn't show episodes airing on june 27 or july 4
there's only one episode left, but it's not until july 11.

CutiePie2000 07-10-2009 06:34 PM

They aired the finale in Canada on July 9th, for the USA it's on July 11th. I'll hold off on discussing it, although no one seems to have watched the show on GC.

WinniBug 07-10-2009 06:56 PM

i've watched it all

pbear19 07-12-2009 09:43 PM

I was fairly pleased with the ending, but then I'm pretty easy to please. :) But there were a couple things that I didn't see coming, and I stayed entertained. Not a bad little show for the time of year, in my opinion.

MSKKG 07-12-2009 10:59 PM

I watched it without trying to figure it out at first but then got caught up in the mystery. I suspected Henry killed J. D. just by the way he looked/acted after Abby found J. D., but I didn't want to believe it just yet. Looking back, he seemed to always stop people from taking any action that would solve their problem.

CutiePie2000 07-12-2009 11:16 PM

Once it was revealed that John Wakefield was actually still alive, the show kinda jumped the shark a bit. The ending was a bit meh, but I watched it as a guilty pleasure.

WinniBug 07-12-2009 11:17 PM

whaaa?!? i was completely shocked!!
henry's a bit loco
