Twilight Series: New Moon, due November 2009

I wanted to start this thread just in case there were Twilight readers out there who haven't gotten to the 2nd book yet.

I hear that they are beefing Taylor up for his New Moon role. Also that Jane will be played by Dakota Fanning which seems fitting. I also heard that Madonna was trying to make her way in there. I really hope she doesn't. I liked that the movie wasn't filled with A-list celebrities and I hope they keep New Moon at that level as well. (except for Dakota obviously... and yummy Peter Facinelli who I wouldn't consider A-list)

Anyone else hear of anything?

I'm working up the nerve to read New Moon a second time. Meyers said on her website that it's best to read it a second time, because the first time, you spend the first 3/4 of the book waiting for Edward to come back and miss the relationship that's building between Jacob and Bella. The reason I said "working up the nerve" is that I'm generally a reader that gets really into the story, and Meyers does a really good job of making the reader feel what the character feels - so that book really was heartbreaking to me. At least the movie is over in one 2-hour shot (instead of being depressed for 300 pages), and as people have said, the first 3/4 of the book will probably take 30 min and the rest of the movie will take place with them chasing down Edward and in Italy.

I think she's probably right. I read this book first since it was the only one available in the airport bookstore. I LOVE Jacob because of this book and never really cared that much for Edward. Reading it without the info from Book 1 really helps, but maybe reading it after knowing that everythng works out for Bella and Edward will work too.

I think the "how" it works out is more important in my case than just knowing THAT it works out...I knew it would work out, because Breaking Dawn was already out when I read New Moon.:D

nikki1920 04-10-2009 01:24 PM

I read them in order, and I could see where Jacob and Bella were headed, even at the end of Twilight. I really hope they play up their relationship more in this film. I thought the wolf reference in Twilight was cute.

While I was reading the book, I was just more upset that Edward just got up and left and that Bella believed him. I started calling my best guy friend "my own personal sun." lol

I really liked Jacob after New Moon also. I knew Edward and Bella would end up together but I kept hoping there'd be some twist and she'd end up with Jacob. I kinda started to resent Edward.

I do need to go back and reread New Moon. I did fly though it, so I would like the chance to spend more time with it this time around. A friend sent me the http://cullenboysanonymous.com/ link, and they totally beefed up Taylor for the role. There was a picture of him awhile ago.

Potential Spoiler if you haven't completed the series:
Is anyone else kinda concerned with the speed they are making the movies? One one hand, it makes sense. Get the same actors while they are still young enough to play their roles, but if we keep with one movie a year that means Breaking Dawn will be coming up- and I really don't know how that is going to work, unless there is some great special effects or puppet child or something that can play Nessie That part is waaaay too complex to put an actual child in the role.

That's why Stephanie doesn't know if she wants Breaking Dawn on screen. It'd be way too complicated.

Something with a Spiderman/Batman/Titanic sized budget could probably pull it off...but being that Summit had issues with the speed-running and sparkling (which are probably basic when it comes to SFX), I have my doubts. Although after the success of Twilight, and the projected success of New Moon, I don't think Breaking Dawn will have the same budget issues.

If nothing else, they should go ahead and shoot the movie while the actors are still young enough (since no one is supposed to age-and I HATE when they replace actors), and then take their time in post-prod with Nessie. They're just going to have to give the post-prod people plenty of options, because if they really take their time and do a good job, reshooting isn't going to be an option.

I don't know. Once in a while there is a REALLY good child actor-another Dakota Fanning?-though for the earliest days, a doll would probably be easier.

I always saw Nessie as Kirsten Dunst from Interview w/ a Vampire. But I agree, that part is too complex. Breaking Dawn itself is too complex of a book to put to screen, especially with a limited budget.

On the Cullen Boys site, it already has a promo for Eclipse for June of 2010....That seems rather fast.... are they filming Eclipse and New Moon together?

Another note....they just cast Michael Sheen of Frost/ Nixon fame, as Aro. That sure how I feel about that one...

PM_Mama00 04-12-2009 05:14 PM

I always get the Volturi mixed up. Which one was the wrinkled tissue-skinned Volturi?

AlphaFrog 05-19-2009 06:43 PM

First movie poster is out....

http://www.twilight-blog.eaglepictur...cialposter.jpg

I like it (and I think the actor that plays Jacob is a cutie), but it almost seems more apropos for Eclipse. I know Meyer didn't want the physical "Eclipse" of Jacob over Edward on the book cover (too much foreshadowing), but the cat's out of the bag for the movie...

IlovemyAKA 05-19-2009 07:03 PM

Kirsten Stewart looks nice on this poster.

nikki1920 05-19-2009 09:18 PM

Taylor looks nice in the poster. :) Did we figure out who's playing Leah?

Thetagirl218 05-19-2009 09:28 PM

I like the poster!

AlphaFrog 05-20-2009 04:58 AM

Anyone want to jump in and say Robert looks nice on the poster? NO? He kinda resembles a transvestite that wears more eyeshadow and lipstick than I do.

There are certain times in Twilight where he looks good, but most of the time, I think he just looks awkward.

LMBO!!! :D I thought it was just me

DolphinChicaDDD 06-01-2009 02:24 PM

Bump!
Did anyone check out the trailer? More excited then I thought I would be. But, I don't like the wolf animation/CGI thing and either the trailer is out of sequence or they changed the story line.

I saw it last night during the mtv awards. I was pleased for the most part, and I agree with you about the wolf scene. It definitely needs work.

Also, I was confused because in the book, Bella doesn't know that Jacob is a wolf in the beginning, yet in the trailer she sees him transform when he ran towards Laurent. Hopefully that was just some creative editing for the trailer and not the actual scene.

Other than that I was very pleased and I can't wait until November. :)

nikki1920 06-01-2009 05:49 PM

aww, dayum!! Jacob looks GOOOOOD!!!

That was creative editing.

I'm taking that day off, since I missed the opening of Twilight.

Yes, I am lame. :)

AlphaFrog 06-02-2009 05:53 AM

I missed the trailer - if someone comes across it, please post a link!

It looks like it. What she's wearing in front of Laurent is different from what she's wearing when she says "Jacob, run!"

I like how someone said she looks the same on her birthday and when Edward leaves her. It's true. It'd be nice if she were more convincing in her role.

I was called a cradle robbing pervert for drooling over how hot he is. I don't care that he's really young. ;)

I'm totally excited too! It's so embarrassing. I've been re-reading the books because I just got them back from a friend, so now I'm totally engrossed in the story again. I swear I'm not a pre-teen.

RaggedyAnn 06-04-2009 08:06 AM

I'm guilty of watching the Twilight movie again. I rented it even though I saw it in the theatre. I'm toying with rereading the books.

nikki1920 06-04-2009 12:07 PM

OtterXO: I was up until 3 am re-re-re-re reading Breaking Dawn. lol Dont feel bad.

Educatingblue 06-10-2009 08:16 PM

The Twilight series is my guilty pleasure. When I first got the boxed set offline, I read all of the books in a little over a week and managed to work both of my jobs. I cannot WAIT until New Moon hits the big screen. I am praying they didn't butcher anything...

nikki1920 06-10-2009 09:26 PM

Twilight left me like this:  . How could they leave out the blood typing scene? New Moon had better bring it. So long as I get to see Emmett, I'm good. :)

AOII_LB93 06-11-2009 10:18 PM

Seriously, how lame is it that I am probably more excited about this than most of my teen students? :)

The math teacher at school and I are the same way. I'm debating about making a countdown on my wall upon return to school next year.

IlovemyAKA 06-18-2009 09:14 PM

I'm watching The Messengers on Lifetime. Kristen Stewart was much better in this. Supposedly, she intentionally makes Bella so awkward. Maybe I'll be convinced with New Moon.

Eta: I spoke too soon...

They had "Catch the Kid" on last weekend, and granted she was probably 13 or 14 and in those "awkward" years in real life when it was filmed, but she was about the same as Bella, only 12 instead of 17.

Same here! However, I don't know if I will see it on opening night as I don't want to see all my female students again!

PhiSigmaRho 09-12-2009 07:41 AM

Has anyone seen New Moon trailer yet? I thought it looked really good.

AlphaFrog 09-12-2009 09:29 AM

Our anniversary (5 YEARS!) is the 22nd of November, and there's a drive-in near the town where we got married (we're going there for our anniversary trip) that shows first-run movies. If they have it, we're going there to see it!:D
