What does a pig hanging from a tree mean?

I saw a pig hanging from a tree three years ago on my campus and now I saw one recently from a building. It wasnt alive it looked like a small baby pig semi cooked. Does anyone know the meaning of this and the point of doing it?

Dionysus 04-02-2009 02:42 PM

Why would you ask about something that you saw 3 years ago?

deltadevil 04-02-2009 03:22 PM

Go ask the people who did it. They probably have a good answer to give you.

timessquare007 04-02-2009 03:41 PM

I saw it again a couple of days ago. Im not a vegan.

So...you ate it?

Senusret I 04-02-2009 03:45 PM

This sounds like some secret society ish

A new "line" probably crossed.

Kevin 04-02-2009 03:47 PM

Maybe someone was trying to keep wild pigs out of their yard?

- sumbitches ruin everything.

I can tell you what shoes on a telephone wire means. Pigs in trees, though... that's just silly.

timessquare007 04-02-2009 03:57 PM

Nah not my style to eat swine like that. I know its a tradition or ritual of some sort just dont know what it means. Thought someone out there would know. As for shoes on the wire, thats old school dating back from the 70's i think:)

timessquare007 04-02-2009 04:57 PM

Actually the pig had a noose around his neck

Both times I have seen it, it had twine or some kind of rope from his neck. Any ideas?

knight_shadow 04-02-2009 05:02 PM

Dude, seriously?

Why would we know the meaning behind a ritual from an unknown organization on an unknown campus? And even if we did, why would we tell you?

PM_Mama00 04-02-2009 05:07 PM

It's what Phi Moos do when a legacy gets initiated. Cows go moo but they're too big to hang from trees.

who's gona take that seriously?

timessquare007 04-02-2009 05:54 PM

knight shadow , relax ..you sound like a paranoid skitzo.. I think you watch a little too much mob movies. Be original and not a wanna be. By the way I hail from U.M. baby ! ! !

As for the cow comment thats a good one, who knows maybe that really is the reason. lol

Wasn't even focused on that part of your "response"

But it's funny that you think "Miami" is the only thing the M could stand for.

Agreed.

BabyPiNK_FL 04-02-2009 10:57 PM

Honestly, when you are from this area when you say U.M. (or UM) no one thinks anywhere else. So I can see why they'd say U.M. and expect everyone to know. It is always my first assumption as well. I know there are obviously other UMs, but to us this is the only one that matters :D.

As to the pig, what a waste. I can't imagine why they'd roast a perfectly good pig and leave it around when people go to a lot of effort to get one for their caja china on holidays.

JohnnyCash 04-03-2009 02:03 AM

Well since you're from scUM.... I mean, "Da U," and Miami has a lot of Cuban immigrants, then it might be some kind of Santeria thing.

Santeria is basically a Cuban form of VooDoo for those of you that don't know what it is.

I know a dead chicken is some kind of curse, maybe a dead pig hanging from a tree is an even bigger curse?

Idk.

I don't know anyone whose "style" it is to take pigs off of trees and eat them.

RU OX Alum 04-03-2009 10:42 AM

I don't know what shoes on telephone wire mean. I should know, I've been told, but I forget.

Funny . . . when you said UM my first thought was University of Maryland. Second was University of Michigan.

deltadevil 04-03-2009 01:58 PM

Talk about animal cruelty. Why would someone want to hang a pig from a tree anyway?

LOL. That would have been my #3, only because I would have expected Mizzou or MU rather than UM.

There are a lots of different meanings attribued to shoes on a telephone wire, or shoefiti -- everything from a marker of a place where drugs are sold to a sign of lost virginity.

FSUZeta 04-04-2009 08:45 AM

SWTXBelle 04-04-2009 08:57 AM

See, I've only heard the virginity thing, but not the drug thing!

UM doesn't have FIJI. FIU does, but our FIJIs are not the type to do things like that and I don't think they've had a proper Islander in years. Plus they def. wouldn't have one this year b/c probation due to some of their ex-brothers' "porn video" that blew up on juicy campus.

I'm pretty sure it's just santeros.

At my brother's skatepark it means a kid bought a new pair of shoes.

tri deezy 04-04-2009 10:40 PM

:( I'm just sad about someone killing a baby pig. It seems disrespectful to hang its body from a tree, too. If it is some ritual for a fraternity, I would want nothing to do with that group. I also get really upset when frats have pledges swallow live goldfish. What's the point?
