Convention 2009

Anyone planning to attend the convention in Orlando this summer?

I already have it worked into our vacation plans, including a Nana (my mom) accompanying me to watch my little beau while I go to workshops!
Hope they open registration soon, so I can book our room. :)

Hopefully, we will be able to have a short GreekChat meet up.

em_adpi 03-30-2009 09:39 AM

would like to go, but am not sure that it will happen. :(

OleMissGlitter 03-30-2009 11:38 AM

Sorry to crash...AOII's Convention is the same time only over in Tampa! Fun times!

lonestaradpi 03-30-2009 10:14 PM

Hi! I will be there! I am really wishing that there was some more information out there. A fellow AA pres. said that she emailed EO last week and got a bit of information, however I really want more. I'm getting irritated because I want to fit in some time at Disney World. Plus, I would like to start checking on flight information now. Grrr. If I find out any info, I'll let y'all know as soon as possible.

ASUADPi 03-31-2009 12:03 AM

I wish I was going but considering I'm not working right now and I'm already taking a cruise with my best friend this summer, going to convention is/was not an option.

Oh well, 2011 is back here in AZ at the Biltmore, so at least I don't have to pay for airfare or hotel. Woo Hoo. It will be fun doing the airport greeting (if they still have us do it this time around, they might since Sky Harbor is HUGE).

adpi*violet 03-31-2009 09:43 AM

Hey A (aka lonestaradpi)! Yeah! I think I remember you saying you were going to try to go. Cool. :) We're doing Disney the week after with my side of our extended family. We do already have our plane tickets- I just booked for the day before the convention starts just in case, since my mom and I will be traveling with a 16 month old (then) and a 5 year old (my nephew). The rest of the family will be joining us later.

jwright25 03-31-2009 10:02 AM

I'll be there! I'm going in a few days early - I used to live in Orlando, so I'm going to do a little relaxing by the pool (it looks lovely!) and shopping. :)

honeychile 03-31-2009 12:12 PM

This was going to be my first convention, but when I heard it was at Sea World and not Disney World, I gave it a pass. I so wanted ears with an azure blue bow!

lonestaradpi 03-31-2009 09:53 PM

Hi H!! (adpi*violet). I wish I could go early, but I will be at kamp and I will leave from and then go back to kamp. So no time for me for an extra vacation. However, I might go back later on in the summer for more Disney time.

Honey, I don't care if it is at Sea World, I WILL make it to Disney! I'm a Disney freak! Plus, I have a friend who is a cast member so he can get me into the park.

Someone please help me, what can I wear for initiation? I know all white, a dress correct? No pants, right? Thank you for your help!!

nauadpi 04-01-2009 08:09 PM

I wanted to go this year, but the wedding of a dear friend of mine is that same weekend... Oh well.. Hopefully in 2011 I will get to go... At least in Arizona I have free places to stay.

polarpi 04-05-2009 06:06 PM

I'm hoping I can go this year - things are still up in the air. :/

If I can, I'm definitely up for a GC get-together around one of the dinners, maybe?

EXiADPi 04-08-2009 12:05 AM

I'm planning on going to Convention I just need the pricing. I'm giving up $600 and 3 credit hours towards my masters for it so I better be able to afford it.

adpi*violet 04-08-2009 10:02 AM

The pricing and registration are now up and online at the official site.

I just registered yesterday!

EXiADPi 04-09-2009 12:12 AM

Well I just got my pink slip from my district. I'm #459 of 600 to be called back so it is not looking good for me to be going to MCO for convention. Who knows, something awesome might happen before then that will allow me to go.

Zillini 04-17-2009 08:51 AM

I wouldn't miss it for the world! The chapter I've advised for the last 14 years is up for the Golden Lion.

Yay! I remember just seeing that. :) My chapter of initiation is up for Golden Lion for the first time. I was looking the other day at who got Stanard in Boston and would be eligible for a 2009 GL. Lots of crossed fingers - hahaha!

honeychile 04-17-2009 11:34 AM

Which chapters are up for the Golden Lion Award this year?

Zillini 04-17-2009 12:54 PM

For those who don't know me,

Eta - University of Alabama

These are the chapters who received Stanard or Golden Lion in 2005 and/or 2007 and would be eligible for Golden Lion this year:

Delta - University of Texas, Austin
Eta - University of Alabama
Kappa - Samford University
Alpha Eta - Kansas State University
Alpha Kappa - University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Beta Epsilon - University of South Carolina
Beta Eta - University of Michigan
Beta Sigma - Mercer University
Beta Tau - University of Akron
Beta Psi - University of Kentucky
Beta Omega - Auburn University
Gamma Iota - University of Florida
Gamma Theta - Mount Union College
Gamma Phi - East Tennessee State University
Delta Mu - Sam Houston State University
Delta Nu - Southeast Missouri State University
Delta Upsilon - University of Tennessee, Martin
Delta Phi - University of Missouri, Kansas City
Epsilon Nu - Ashland University
Epsilon Tau - Middle Tennessee State University
Zeta Beta - North Carolina State University
Zeta Nu - Clemson University
Zeta Rho - Vanderbilt University
Zeta Sigma - College of Charleston
Eta Epsilon - Miami University
Eta Lambda - Albright College
Eta Xi - Presbyterian College

I feel like I'm missing a couple. Feel free to correct me if you know who! Chapters who qualified for Stanard or Golden Lion in 2003 but may have missed in 2005 and 2007 are eligible if they meet the other criteria as well.

polarpi 04-27-2009 11:25 PM

So I just booked my registration....fingers crossed it was a good decision for me, but I figured I needed my sisters! :)

H - we HAVE to get an Eta Psi pic together at Convention!

WaxOff 04-28-2009 02:16 AM

Wow... How many Fraternities and Sororities are having their National Conventions in Orlando this summer?

Aside from you ladies, I heard KD was having theirs at the end of June and ours is in the middle of July.

Can we say Greek Summer?

Rob

Woo-hoo! You get to meet the little man too! I volunteered to carry a dormant chapter's flag in the processional, just hoping it would be ours!

ADqtPiMel 04-28-2009 07:19 PM

I'm in. My chapter of initiation (Eta Epsilon) is up for Golden Lion again, and the chapter I advise is up for Stanard. This will be my first Convention, so I am pretty excited :)

Can't wait to meet the little guy! :)

I volunteered too - I was actually just talking about this with another sister today, and as I've carried our chapter flag the last two Conventions, I think you should get a turn! :)

adpi*violet 05-04-2009 04:11 PM

I bought a formal gown today! The best part is that it was on sale. :)
A couple of years ago, I gave all of my old ones away (not that any of them would have still fit) to a Cinderella Sale (prom dresses for lower-income high school girls), so I knew I needed something for the Diamond Awards banquet.
I think I'm set now for clothes. Can you tell I'm excited about this convention? :)

honeychile 05-04-2009 10:21 PM

I dream of the day when Alpha Iota is back in the major Awards circuit! We had two sterling candlebra from before I pledged, and it just killed me when I visited the suite and I saw that they were broken & in a closet. :( We need some more sterling!! :D

lyrica9 05-05-2009 09:29 PM

i really wanna go, but i don't know if i can afford it =(

polarpi 06-04-2009 11:58 PM

Well, adpi*violet - looks like I'll have to plan a trip to Colorado, as I just had to cancel my reservation for Convention this year. :(

Hope you have a lot of fun, and please take lots of pictures to post! :)

adpi*violet 06-26-2009 11:30 PM

Convention rocks! Making memories, remembering others, learning, basking in the sisterly love!

Yay! I think you should post a "journal" of your experience in all your free time when you get home...;)

J/K - but definitely share some of your favorite memories!

honeychile 06-27-2009 09:58 PM

I know that Convention is when a lot of the untried jewelry is offered for sale. I'm looking for something in particular, if anyone sees this: it would be a yellow gold <> diamond with the crest in the middle <c>, and a hole on each side. If anyone sees it, please call me, and I'll do whatever makes you comfortable to buy it for me. Thanks!

texas*princess 06-28-2009 01:18 PM

Gamma Upsilon took home the Diamond Four Point :)

ADqtPiMel 06-28-2009 04:23 PM

My chapter of initiation won the Golden Lion and the chapter I advise won Excellence! It was a great week.

Zillini 06-28-2009 04:58 PM

I am ecstatic to announce that Eta - University of Alabama won the Golden Lion for the first time EVER!!!

Here's my "It's a small world after all" story from Convention. I met the Chapter Advisor for Tau, Kansas University. Come to find out that my Dad and her's were pledge brothers. When I called my Dad he was floored and now can't wait to reconnect with his fraternity brother.
