Sigma Chi at University of Alabama

Does anyone have any information about Sigma Chi at University of Alabama? Would it be harder to get into because of my age? I started the post "is 24 to old to join a fraternity". I would hate to even inquire about it and not get a response because of my age so any help and info would be great!! Thanks!!

trliber 03-10-2009 03:46 AM

I would hope that's not too old. I know of some grad students that are involved in Greek life at my school and they're around that age so unless Sigma Chi at Alabama practices age-ism I don't see why that would be an issue.

Do you think the answers are going to be different in this thread?

Read the information given in the other thread.

nate2512 03-10-2009 07:49 AM

Ok, just cause you start a new thread, doesn't mean we're going to tell you what you want to hear. Well some people will, but they likely have no clue what they're talking about. We've addressed this subject on many occasions, so go browse through them and see what happened.

golfer11 03-10-2009 08:57 AM

I dont want to rain on your parade but alabama sometimes has sophomore pledges and rarely has anything above that. Try and get in contact with them and tell them you situation. Do you know anyone who is a brother there?

bama24 03-10-2009 11:03 AM

I was asking about a particular fraternity from a particular school, so that would mean unless you know about that fraternity, then there’s no need to respond or even click on the post. I’m not looking for a different response than what I’ve already got on the age issue. Just wanted info on this fraternity, if you don’t have it (most of the post’s above DO NOT HAVE IT) then do not post. Does anyone on here even go to Bama and belong to a fraternity??? I’m starting to think that no one on here does….

First of all, this is a public message board. We're going to click and respond to what we want.

Second, if you read the original thread you started, you'll see input from people saying age can be a detriment, especially at a school like Bama. These posters went on to say give it a shot and see how it goes. We're not going to hold your hand and walk you through rush. You're old enough to talk to people in real life.

bama24 03-10-2009 11:27 AM

Thanks for your help Knight Shadow, if I decide to go to a school in Texas Ill give what you say a shot... thanks again and Roll Tide!

If you couldn't grasp what was said in my post, then you won't need to worry about getting into a fraternity.

I HOPE YOU GET REJECTED.

srmom 03-10-2009 11:35 AM

I just have to laugh at that :)

bama24 03-10-2009 11:36 AM

Everyone who reads this thread can grap your posts, find another thread about a school in TX, post there. Your not helping me or anyone else looking for info about Bama. If you went there, then this would be different. You seem to be more worried about "me" than "I" do.

LOL, keeps getting better :)

If you did, in fact, "grap" my post, you'd see it was referencing Alabama, NOT Texas schools.

And your last sentence doesn't make sense.

bama24 03-10-2009 11:38 AM

So did you go to Alabama?

Clearly, I didn't. And based on your stellar typing skills, it seems like you didn't either.

That's neither here nor there. I referred you to the other thread which included information from posters who had gone to Bama, or were familiar enough with the school to give you good advice. You chose to be a prick.

I don't care, though. I already have my letters :p

Senusret I 03-10-2009 11:42 AM

I was a Sigma Chi at Bama and you WILL be rejected. Your IP address has already been traced.

knight_shadow 03-10-2009 11:44 AM

I wonder where EW, CB, and Nate are?

bama24 03-10-2009 11:47 AM

Then dont reply to this post since you dont care.

knight_shadow 03-10-2009 11:48 AM

Sir, yes sir.

Anything else?

lol.... you win.

Actually you don't, because you'll still never be Greek, much less a Sigma Chi.

I try not to respond to these types.

... sigmachi at UBama is 2b and if you're in-state you've got a 50/50, if I had a guess.

bama24,

Not going to lie to you. Your age might be a detriment. Only someone who is actually a Sigma Chi at Bama can tell you for sure. Ideally, Sigma Chi is supposed to judge potential members by the Jordan Standard:

We admit no man to membership who is not believed to be:

A man of good character
A student of fair ability
With ambitious purposes
A congenial disposition
Possessed of good morals
Having a high sense of honor and
A deep sense of personal responsibilty.

Only the members at Bama, who are meeting you, can actually judge you by these standards.

I would guess that there are a lot of 'Bama fraternity men here lurking.

They probably just don't want to help you.

C'mon Sen, they don't need his IP address. They just need to be on the lookout for the 24-year-old guy who spent about 4 years traveling with a band when he comes through rush.

Senusret I 03-10-2009 04:07 PM

Haaaaaaaaa true, he still fails at life. :)

Ghostwriter 03-10-2009 04:55 PM

I have just one question. With all the fraternities at Alabama why did you pick out Sigma Chi? I am sure they are very good at Bama but there are lots of others as well. Are you a legacy or is that the only fraternity you have ever heard about. If you are truly interested in a fraternity at Alabama then my advice is just see what happens cos' probably nobody here will be at any of the rush events. There is no way we can tell you if Sigma Chi will accept a 24 year old. I doubt they will consider you if you are tatted up and have bolts in your face but I don't know Sigma Chi there so that would just be my thoughts. If you are a decent bloke all may work out well.

Fraternities are not for everyone and everyone is not for a fraternity.

That's pretty heady.

Rad.

I hope it was with Widespread Panic.

hey buddy, listen here i GO TO ALABAMA. Also i am in a fraternity here. That being said i dont think you have a snow balls chance in a hell getting a bid. I was just trying to be nice and give you some advice from someone who goes here. Dont be a prick

nate2512 03-11-2009 02:01 AM

Goodness, how ignorant can you be? Don't start multiple threads just cause you didn't get the response you were looking for, or people weren't playing nice. People are really helpful around here until you start being a total fucking douche bag. Then people get irate and impatient. Odds are, you'll go to Bama, get rejected by Sigma Chi(which if you don't know anything about them, why pick that one.), then you're going to come back here, whining and bitching cause you couldn't hack it in SEC fraternity life.

So go ahead, tell me I don't grasp the concepts of your posts, or that when I'm a Sigma Chi at Bama then to give advice, or whatever dumbass thing you can come next.

If you'll look around GreekChat other than your own damned self-centered post, then you'll realize you aren't the only one asking this question, and you sure as hell don't stand any better of a chance than any of the rest of them.

Keep the advice given here in the back of your mind, TRY TO RUSH GO FOR IT, and let us know how it goes, if it goes well then you can you come back here, tell us were wrong, and you can help the next person like yourself asking for help. If it doesn't go well, you can come back and apologize for your ignorance.

bama24 03-11-2009 04:08 AM

I want to apologize for being such an asshole on here yesterday. I didn’t mean for it to come across so hateful/disrespectful/cocky or however you want to classify it. I just took some things out of perspective…. sorry again and thanks for replying to my thread.

I'm pretty sure that this statement is a lie. You are an Alpha Phi Alpha with dreadlocks, right?

Sigma Chi's Iota Iota chapter wouldn't recruit a member of another social fraternity.

And I'm pretty sure that while you're so busy post-stalking me, you could also have picked up on my sense of humor.

But thanks for making me the subject of your very first post under this particular user name.

That would totally creep me out if somebody mentioned what I look like!!!

Good Heavens!

:eek:Someone's stalking you:eek:

Senusret I 03-12-2009 01:55 PM

I write books and do speaking gigs....I don't care if anyone knows how I look. In fact, it's profitable for me. :)

It's cute, I love fans! Even the weirdos.

knight_shadow 03-12-2009 01:59 PM

^^^ True, but hell, dude could have at least waited until post #2 before saying something like that lol

Senusret I 03-12-2009 02:00 PM

LOL.... maybe it was JUST that serious.
