For my Alpha Ep Sistas....

Wasn't sure where else to post this, but I need your help....

Do any of you have the melody for the pinning song? We have the words, but I cannot find the melody anywhere.

Scrubadub 03-10-2009 11:53 AM

I'd try posting this on the message board on national's website (once it's back up): you'll probably have better luck there.

I'll check with my chapter and see if we have a copy of the tune. I remember it (even though I never got to do one. :( My boyfriends hated the idea of formal commitment.)

If you need it quickly, you could always check with the IEB. They'll have a copy for sure.

OHNOITSJESS 03-31-2009 02:49 AM

i've never heard it. we have the words in our candidate books tho :(

Scrubadub 06-02-2009 01:29 PM

Do either of you (or any other Alpha Ep) have the list of wedding traditions? One of my very favorite sisters is getting married next month and I wanted to have a few of our traditions at the wedding.

BlueHen 06-03-2009 09:11 PM

I also went to a wedding where the bride wrapped a lavaliere around her bouquet.

BlueHen 06-10-2009 05:06 PM

Nu Chapter at the University of Delaware.

ohMycron 01-05-2010 02:27 AM

Hi, sisters. As we don't have a forum specific for our Sorority (I've e-mailed the administrator with no response), I think we should dedicate this thread to our random discussions, thoughts, and Sorority-related things. I will start: OHNOITSJESS, how are things at your colony going?

OHNOITSJESS 01-05-2010 03:06 AM

its awesome. we initiated 12 girls from last semester (or was it 11?) and we're getting ready for Spring recruitment. [I need help with that, anyone know some recruiting methods? I sent the "one on one" one from the Sigma Nu board to the pres. but any other methods?]

We're done with the petition, we just are trying to get the constitution pushed through (its a pain in the rear :/) hopefully to be Omega Chapter! And we should be installed in Feb-Mar-Apr this year (fingers crossed)

on a side note, do any of the chapters own houses? I know at-least One Phi Rho and one ASK chapter does, but how about us?

AOEforme 01-05-2010 11:14 AM

I'm rooting for you for Omega Chapter.

Beta Chapter "technically" has a house. A dad purchased it and it gets rented out by women from the Chapter each year. Take a look at the website- it's really pretty. However, to get a true Alpha Ep house you need to go through internationals and get quite the insurance policy. That's my goal for when I'm an alumna- work on the housing situation for my chapter!!!

For spring recruitment, my chapter used a LOT of the ideas on here. Also, the book I <3 Recruitment really is magical... The ideas are excellent. PhiredUp.com also has fabulous ideas.

Spring Recruitment is always rough for us, because the main recruitment period at our school is right away in Fall. This is really when you want to invite friends of your newest candidate class.

Me too!
Sidenote: I was looking at Alumni chapters for the Beau and (alumna) ones for me... i was teasing him beacuse he doesn't have to do any work to find one, whereas i have to in most cases start my own :) i kept teasing him that he was going to have to help me with a chapter house (he does soo much for the chapter already behind the scenes, i am soo lucky to have him :) )

sigh. the good things in life come with hard work :D

AOEforme 01-06-2010 12:59 PM

Agreed. You can join the sorority social groups wherever you move though!

Housing work is hard... I hope someone starts work on a group to manage international housing.

OHNOITSJESS 01-06-2010 02:03 PM

Is it just me or do you hate that the "objectives" are called that? It sounds like something off a syllabus :-P I think it would be better to have Purpose for the "Objective" and a separate creed that expounds on our ideals.
I'm just nit picking, (I'm trying to see if i can expound on the Ideals :) it would make a nifty wall hanging for chapters.) Since we are a newer organization, I'm guessing those things aren't set in stone?

AOEforme 01-06-2010 02:16 PM

Agreed- I'm not really a big fan of the word "objectives". I love the objectives though...

Have you seen the Strategic Plan? I absolutely adore it... I'll e-mail it to you if you don't have it...

Because we're only 26 years old, we have a lot of fluidity, so some things can change. However, there's already enough tradition that goes along with our organization so that some things are really difficult to change.

Like take alumnae groups: You can only join the Alumnae Chapter for your particular chapter, so I can only be an Omicron Alumnae Chapter member. But I can join the Madison-Area Alumnae Social Group. I wish we could just combine these together...

OHNOITSJESS 01-06-2010 02:28 PM

for sure email it! IDK if you have my new email, i'll PM it to you either way. I just mean like the wording (Objective vs. Purpose) and I love the Objectives too :D its so weird talking to PNM's and being like this is our Objectives (it feels like a short time period goal :/)

OHNOITSJESS 01-06-2010 02:33 PM

PM's Sent

AOEforme 01-06-2010 02:42 PM

I'm PMing the other posters too- I want them to get the e-mail and come back to talk to us :)

ohMycron 01-06-2010 05:01 PM

I am happy to see everyone on her. Great News about Texas Tech and I will keep my fingers crossed for you. AOEforme, you are at Wisconsin if I remember correctly. What is happening there.

AOEforme 01-06-2010 10:41 PM

Yes- Omicron Chapter. Not too much going on going on her currently. We're just prepping for Recruitment!

OHNOITSJESS 01-12-2010 01:39 PM

OHNOITSJESS 01-21-2010 11:52 AM

out of curiosity, what is our legacy policy? do legacies have to be in engineering or sciences?
PM me if its not public material.

PS: We won't be Omega, :( South Dakota State is being installed this weekend

AOEforme 01-21-2010 02:07 PM

Yes, legacies have to be in an applicable field at the time of sister initiation, just like all other initiates. Take a look at the forms we use.

Sad news about you not being Omega, but I'm really excited for SDSU.

And how awesome is being Alpha Alpha???

AOEforme 02-05-2010 04:58 PM

A Pledge to AΩE

Have you guys seen this before? It was in our info night slideshow and I really like it:

A Pledge to AΩE

As an AΩE, I promise integrity.
I shall stay true to my sisterhood evermore.
The ideals I shall follow constantly
and always allow them to guide me on my path.
To my sisters and the world, I promise honesty.
To my field, I give dedication and promise.

The world will grow to count on me
for I am Alpha Omega E.

Sorry to crash, ladies.

I have a question about this--and only because it is encountered in one of the music fraternities SAI has an exclusivity agreement with.

If a sister is majoring in the applicable field at her time of initiation, but then changes her major to something else later on is her AOE membership terminated? What happens to her membership status?

(In MPhiE, if a member is initiated but them drops the music major or minor their membership is automatically terminated.)

AOEforme 02-05-2010 05:31 PM

If she changes her major after initiation, nothing happens. She is still a full member of Alpha Omega Epsilon.

Nothing even happens to her membership: she is still entitled to all rights of an Active-Active or Alumnae-Active.

In my particular chapter, we've had English majors before, a finance major, and a psychology major. They all switched their major after freshman or sophomore year and chose to remain active still.

I'm not sure of the reasoning behind it, but I'm glad it exists: it would be so sad to lose a sister you've come to love.

On a different note, my best friend from high school is now an SAI! I sent her red roses :)

Wisconsin Spring Recruitment

We finally finished getting all the women from our class initiated. We had 10 new women for our Spring Class, which is a record for us!

We should make this an official part of AOE (like the ideals and objectives not as important tho). Its beautiful, and I think every sister should read it.

I want get a nice copy of this printed to put in my room!

AΩEGirl21 02-18-2010 05:00 PM

Just wanted to say hi!!!!!!

Also, I want to know what you guys think a "good size" A.O.E. sorority is. How many actives? AOEforme you might agree with me on this but my chapter is at a stage right now where we are getting bigger and bigger candidate classes and don't know where to cap it. Should there be a cap?

Let me know what your thoughts are.

OHNOITSJESS 02-18-2010 07:03 PM

My colony down south has asked this question several times. We decided we can't place a number on it. Lately our fall candidate class has been growing like crazy (considering this is our first year as an A.O.E. colony. :)) We doubled our chapter size last class, and are looking forward excitedly! (We Currently have 23 "actives" and 3 Spring "candidates"... since we are a colony nationally our actives are considered equal to chapter candidates)
We decided 4-6 girls would be a successful rush but we wouldn't cap it simply because we wouldn't turn a woman of true quality and that we can see benefiting us and reaping the benefits of A.O.E.
I hope this answers those questions.

Sending up love from the South!

WOW 23+3, I'm so proud of you guys! Way to work your butt off.;)

Yeah right now we are at about 20 fully participating active girls. We do have a candidate class of 10 but we have about 10 people graduating this spring. I am not graduating this spring and would love to see us grow even bigger in the fall. As a chapter, I feel like we have finally got down how to recruit and COB more. Personally I would love to see our chapter hold a steady number of 40 girls at least within the next 3 years.

Pros of a bigger chapter:
~more sisters are willing to just be an active sister and don't feel the need to hold a position
~ everyone can find at least one person to connect with in the sorority
~finally being able to participate in Greek activities on campus with a big number.

Cons of a bigger chapter:
~not a personal as it is right now (maybe this is a pro if you think of talking to your sisters on a professional level)
~ might not keep the smaller fraternities as friends if we get too big

... I don't know

This is our chapter BTW, including the 3 candidates they are in random order tho so i can't point them out specifically.

AOEforme 02-19-2010 12:58 PM

Cute photo! I love it!

OHNOITSJESS 02-23-2010 05:43 PM

I can't wait till we order our shirts for this spring! (i'm t-shirt chair too now :D) they are the same design but the shirt color will be different based on families (we have 11 families, the 8 Founders and 3 Beta Class members)

AOEforme 02-23-2010 05:48 PM

Speaking of t-shirts, anyone want to order this one with me?

http://somethinggreek.com/shop/shope...-Shirt&id=1078

AOEforme 02-23-2010 05:52 PM

With all the threads on Big/Little popping up, I was wondering what other chapters did for big little. The Angle had an interesting article featuring a few chapters on Big/Little tradition.

We reveal the big sister during candidate initiation. There's a part of it that lends itself very well. :) Then, after the ritual, we let the girls know that that woman is their big!

Does your chapter or family tree have any presents they pass down? We have a family t-shirt. However, I have twins this year so I don't know what I'm going to do.

Any special gifts you do?

OHNOITSJESS 02-23-2010 05:55 PM

lol not my style :(
but i like this one

OHNOITSJESS 02-24-2010 12:00 AM
