NFL Free agency: What is your team doing?

So...the free agency has opened up and already one BIG move has come forth...

Albert Haynesworth was signed by the Redskins for 6 years

In other news, Miami has shored up their D by grabbing Gibril Wilson

Other players to watch:

Where will LT go?

What about Ray Lewis? A Jets player or will he retire a Raven?

Who will be insane enough to pick up Mike Vick's contract?

What about Matt Cassell ? WIll he stay in NE or will he flourish in a new system?

Where will TJ Houzmanzedah and Chad Johnson go and how bad will the Bengals suffer without them?

Any other players you can think of, let's discuss them here as the free agency merry go round begins

Winslow traded to Tampa Bay

Gibril Wilson is a linebacker who wears a number under 50 - a safety in name only. Without the Nnamdi Blanket, I'd guess he'll be a target in the Miami secondary, rather than "shoring" it up.

Quite possibly right

and I saw that Jeff Garcia is gone from Tampa Bay...actually they have cleaned house quite a bit...hmmmm

Plus the fact that, at least according to FO, he's ridiculous in run support. But yeah, when you lose the protection of the best cover guy in the NFL, I'm guessing his weaknesses will be a bit more glaring in Miami.

As for my team...the Giants re-upped Brandon Jacobs. It sounds like the deal is front-loaded, which gives them an out in a couple of years if his production goes downhill, or if his injury issues get worse.

They did clean house...They got rid of Garcia, Warrick Dunn, Derrick Brooks, Cato June, Joey Galloway, and Ike Hilliard.

They are all huge names down in Tampa. Derrick Brooks has been the face of the franchise his entire career and Warrick Dunn started in Tampa, went to Alatana, and came back....Most Bucs fans are disgusted...

I know some people that work in the local sports media down here and word is that the Glazers (owners) forced to the new coach to get rid of the players. Most fans were happy to see Gruden gone, but most fan hate the Glazers!

ASTalumna06 02-28-2009 05:12 PM

Cassel is now with the Chiefs (along with Mike Vrabel). Sad to see them go but interested to see what happens.

I'm wondering if the Pats are now going to package a couple of their picks (they have 4 of the first 60) in a deal for Peppers.

Giants just signed Michael Boley: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfceast/0...th-Giants.html .

Good deal for the team, as they needed an athletic OLB. Now I'm interested to see how they approach the draft, as I figured they would draft a linebacker. I wonder if this means they'll target a WR instead.

I aint gonna lie...I am glad to see Gruden gone...it was blind luck that he won that Super Bowl and that luck of him seeing his old team (using Dungy's team) that forgot to change the playbook...

I'm sad that we'll likely be saying goodbye to Marvin Harrison (but I thought we would lose him to retirement anyway), and I'm really happy that Jeff Saturday stayed with the Colts.

moe.ron 03-02-2009 12:23 AM

We just signed Chris Canty to shore up our defensive line. Hopping against hope that Derrick Ward will resign, but chances are he's gone.

Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper and NFL free agent Corey Smith, who played for the Detroit Lions for the past three seasons, have not returned from a Saturday fishing trip in water off Clearwater, Florida, family members and colleagues said Sunday.

Even though i'm not a fan of the detroit lions, i pray to god that they win atleast two games this year because last year was pathetic. With the number one pick they better do something.

My team, the new orleans saints, just resigned Jonathan Vilma and Jon Stinchcomb. On top of that we have the fourteenth pick in the draft =)

I am just ROTFLMAO about the Redskins and Haynesworth. Michael Wilbon dubbed the Redskins "The Champions of the Offseason" because they make headlines in February and March instead of during the season. Another article coined the term "Dannyball" to describe a clueless owner who throws large sums of money at talented players without consideration of whether their style and abilities fit the team. Though, I imagine after the harsh criticism for Snyder, he'll probably buy The Washington Post so he can censor everything in it to his liking.

Thus far, I believe the Steelers have resigned Chris Kemoeatu (not a favorite of mine, but hey our O-line was good enough to win the Superbowl). I think we cut safety Anthony Smith (fine by me, he talked way too much trash without backing it up on the field).

And another Skins headline...they CUT Jason Taylor who they JUST signed LAST year.

I can't wait til the draft.

But, if I remember correctly, every other big-name defensive free agent signed by Snyder (Deion, Bruce Smith, etc.) was on the downside of their career. Haynesworth is probably overpaid, no doubt...but at least they're getting a beast of a defensive player in his prime.

True, but maybe he's looking to simply cash in while resting on his laurels. Who's to say he hasn't peaked this year?Tenessee was a very complete defense. The Skins are...the Skins. What motivation do you have for improvement when you've stated your goal is to become the highest paid defensive player in the league and you've achieved it? He has $41 million in guaranteed money. He'll fit in with the Redskins in the sense that the overwhelming majority of the team and personnel value money over winning. I don't see him fitting in as a player on the team, though. The defensive coordinator is not his style and with someone with a temper like Haynesworth I forsee locker room problems or on-field outbursts. Or both. Such is par for the course for Dan Snyder's Redskins.

So NE trades Cassel and Vrabel to KC for a second round pick? I think KC got the waaaaaayyy better end of that deal. However, New England generally makes good use of their draft picks (unlike another team I know:rolleyes:) so maybe they'll get somebody worth the sum of Cassel and Vrabel.

moe.ron 03-05-2009 04:23 AM

I wish the Giants can get a big time wide receiver. That what made them great at the beginning of the year and created such a headache for defensive coordinator. They don't know who to watch out for, the running game or the air game.

Rumor WR the GIants might be going after: Braylon Edwards or Anquan Boldin.

DaemonSeid 03-05-2009 08:59 AM

I was gonna post it but moe and NP beat me to it.

Edwards was terrible last year and has a case of the drops.

Boldin would be awesome, but I don't see it happening.

Does Danny trade notes with Peter Angelos? Cause that's pretty much how The Peter runs the Orioles.

Bet Danny goes for TO! :D

Ugh...the Orioles...every time April rolls around I start praying for September.

I know... thank heaven for the Phillies in the last few years.

I watched Cal's 2131 game on ESPN Classic recently and it made me miss the late '90s era... I loved those Orioles.

In other news...

Coles is signed by the Bungles...errmmm Bengals...

deltadevil 03-05-2009 05:02 PM

the detroit lions just signed Phillip Buchanon to a two year $8.5 million deal

violetpretty 03-06-2009 01:39 AM

I'm really glad Ray Lewis is staying with the Crows, errhmm Ravens. He IS the Ravens. His rookie year was the Ravens' first year. Even though the Ravens are among my least favorite teams, it would have broken my heart to see a player so beloved by the fans to play somewhere else in the twilight of his career.

deltadevil 03-06-2009 01:41 PM

Yeh I hate to see a very good player, that I like, get traded from a team that he or she has been with for a long time to a different one like Brett Farve and Allen Iverson

Ray Lewis did good to stay with the Ravens. Him and Terrell Suggs are a good duo on defense

Uh oh...the Broncos just eff'ed up!

Cutler wants out of Denver, skips 1st team meeting
By ARNIE STAPLETON, AP Sports Writer
Mar 16, 5:38 pm EDT

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP)—Jay Cutler says he wants to break up. The Denver Broncos say they want to make up.

The Pro Bowl quarterback was a no-show on Monday for coach Josh McDaniels’ first team meeting and the start of the Broncos’ offseason workouts, and if he gets his way, he’ll never step foot in the team’s training facility again.

“The Denver Broncos confirm that Jay Cutler has requested a trade,” team spokesman Jim Saccomano told The Associated Press on Monday.

McDaniels declined interview requests after telling The Denver Post that he wanted to meet again with Cutler to try to resolve their differences before he considers a trade.

McDaniels briefly addressed his broiling quarterback controversy when he gathered his team as a group for the first time Monday morning.
