PUSH: BASED ON THE NOVEL BY SAPPHIRE
During the 'Madea Goes To Jail" previews, there was one for a movie called 'Push" that looked REALLY good! So after searching the 'net, I dug up this info (apparently it took Sundance by storm!)
http://festival.sundance.org/page/-/...arge/PUSHH.jpg With sheer audacity and utter authenticity, director Lee Daniels tackles Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire and creates an unforgettable film that sets a new standard for cinema of its kind. Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) is a high-school girl with nothing working in her favor. She is pregnant with her father’s child—for the second time. http://festival.sundance.org/2009/fi...el_by_sapphire This looks to be a good movie so I was thinking about checking out the book myself. Has anyone else read the book? |
I have! It was a little hard to get through because Precious is semi-illiterate and she's writing this for a GED class that she's taking. But it is a good book although it is very sad and kinda hard to stomach when you read about what has been done to her. I can't wait to see the movie though! I will be seeing it during my "me-time" which is when The Baby's at daycare and The Teenager is at school.

Push is an excellent novel which is reminiscent of The Color Purple.
But hold the sauce: CAST Gabourey Sidibe, Paula Patton, Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd, Lenny Kravitz I AM SO THERE!!!!! Where can I see this??? |

I heard ALL of the cast did an excellent job and that Carey and Kravitz were REALLY GOOD. |
does anyone know where to find the trailer/preview for this? i cant seem to find one anywhere and im intrigued...
|
|
I am reminded of how miserable this woman's life was. I know there are people who are troubled from every angle. It's sad.
I won't read the book but I will try to see this movie. |
thx Dr Phil! :D
as the self-appointed VP of the CryBaby Club, i wonder how im going to get thru watching it lol! i can already tell its gonna be one of "those" movies, the type that rocks u to your core and leaves you in thought... |
PUSH is an excellent novel.
I read it every so often. I think the first time I read it, I was in maybe the 6th grade. (I was reading way too mature content for my age). I even read it in French a couple years ago. I'd recommend reading. It is horrifying, touching, disturbing, and beautiful. And I am very excited about the movie version. I have been waiting for this adaption for years. *quick aside* Speaking of movie adaptations, whatever happened to THE COLDEST WINTER EVER? I've been looking forward to that for years too! |

that being said, im looking for another really good novel to replace it, so im gonna look into getting PUSH this week... |
I do the same thing with the Twilight Series. I'm so lame.. lol.
Did he say Lenny Kravitz?! Easily the sexiest black man in music will be on the screen??!!! Sen, we may have to fight over him. another GC movie night? (since NA didnt quite happen, lol!) |
Lenny told me to tell you hussies to back off.
Yep. I won. |

If, after watching these movies, you still feel that you can fight me over Lenny Kravitz and win, well then, I'll be waiting for you. |

In all seriousness, I feel like I stopped liking Sapphire after she decided to stop being a Lesbian. Did I make that up? |
Quote:
I'm not familiar with Sapphire. I will resist the urge to Google search and assume you made that up. |
i haven't read it, but am really interested in seeing the movie. holla back if we're having a DC GC movie shindig.
|
The movie has been renamed Precious:
http://www.blackvoices.com/blogs/200...amed-precious/ They didn't say why, but I think it's because there is currently a movie out now call Push. |

Precious? I guess that's an okay name. |

ETA: Hold up...did someone say that it's reported that Mariah Carey did a good job in this movie? Now I've GOT to see this. I still get the shakes when I think about her performance in Glitter. :( |

Yeah, the protagonist's name is Precious. I kinda like the title as that. Life is precious. Precious is well...precious, despite the terrible things that have happened in her life. And so on. But something about the title PUSH is just so powerful and active, that I would have preferred to keep the original name. Too bad there's already another movie out with the same title... |
They could've tried "Push AGAIN."
:) Kidding. Naming the movie after the protagonist is just so...obvious and takes away from the visibility of the movie as far as I'm concerned. |
I liked Push better as a title. Precious just doesnt do it for me. I feel like Precious doesn't do justice to the film.

me too! i was doing the voice in my head as i was reading this thread. |
Yes I read this book a few years back, and all I can say it's so very deep, and MoNique is playing the part of the mom....and all I can say is read the book before you see the movie...because it's so very, very deep....and painful...and.....just read the book
|
^^^I didn't really want to read the book first (can't explain why, just a feeling). But if it's that deep, then I'll try.
I was up in the air about it after seeing the preview at T-Perry's movie but, after reading this thread, I think I'll go. I think it might be really hard for me to watch, though. I have a teenaged cousin named Precious whose life is not too much unlike this girl's. I have a feeling I'll be thinking of her the entire time. |
i found the book on eBay, paid about 8 dollars for it brand new with free shipping! :D
i usually never read the book before the movie if im not familiar with the story, i wait until after i watch the movie but think this might be a different situation... |
While searching for the trailer (which I can't seem to find online) I found this clip from the movie.

I have a question:
When is this movie coming out? |
Apparently, Lionsgate and the former distribution company are in a legal dispute over the rights of the film. The last timeline I saw was September 2009.
|
I heard the fall as well (after I wrote the post).
|
The book was deep. I don't think I could stomach the movie if it's anything like the book.

I haven't read the book, but I plan to see this movie. I think Mo'Nique will be fine and get more serious roles as she goes along.
I'm also in whether Ms. Sidibe will have a quality career, whether she gets an Oscar nod or not. I could see her having some sort of LaTanya Richardson-Jackson career (theater, independent movies). |
I read the book, and all I could say was WOWWWWWWWW.
Can't wait to see the movie.... |
I have been seeing the trailer at the movies but it has no date!! Whats slowing up the process I wonder.
|
I saw the movie on Sunday and loved it. Has anyone else seen the movie yet?
