Holding Office

Hey everyone, I was just wanting to take a survey of what offices (if any) you all hold in your GLO, or what you want to run for in the future. What did it take to get you there, and is it really time-consuming? We turned in applications last week for new member class offices, and I ended up being
~~~Alternate Junior Panhellenic~~~. I really wish I wasn't an alternate, though, cuz I don't have anything do to really unless someone can't go to a meeting! My first choice was new member president, and my third choice was social chair. At least I got something, though, I guess. :)
I hold treasurer in my fraternity. It is very time consuming and it takes a lot of work. I have quite a few accounts and investments that I have to look after, almost on a daily basis. It's hard, but i am up to the challenge.
I'm my pledge class philanthropy chair, I figured it was best to get involved early. I really have no idea what I may be in the future, perhaps a rush chairman one summer, and maybe pledge educator or IFC delegate some other time. And of course I could continue the philanthropy route.
So far it hasn't been very time consuming--just telling my pledge brothers how many hours they get for such and such philanthropy or when an opportunity is available. I'm in charge of planning a community service project for our class during initiation week in January, but that seems to be my only big project.
I've held these offices...
- Pledge Class Vice President (not time-consuming at all!)
- Director of Facilities (very time-consuming, hard work)
- Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations (time consuming, fun and extremely worthwhile!)
In college:
Pledge Class President
Asst. Treasurer
Various Committee Chairs
Panhellenic VP and Pres
As an alumna:
Alumnae Chapter VP & President
Advisor
Alumnae Panhellenic VP & President
I am currently my chapter's treasurer and alumnae relations chair. Treasurer isn't TOO time-consuming, except when I have to fill out paperwork. As for alumnae relations, it's not difficult at all. There is no alumnae chapter in close proximity to us, so we really have no one to correspond with.
AOPiLaLa 09-26-2001 01:23 PM
In college I was--
Songleader(LOVED IT)
Parents Club chair
Alumni Relations Chair(very fun and not to hard)
As an Alum I am--
Recruitment Advisor
Secretaries advisor
I think ANY position you hold in your oganization is just great and really makes you see how hard but worthwhile it can be to have so many women/men with all different ideas and views together at one time.
I am currently 1st vice-president in my sorority. I handle leadership, scholarship, and alumni relations. My job is very time consuming but it's all worth while in the end. I think the hardest part of the job is probably keeping the alumni happy. I'm constantly checking in with them for their ideas and input so they don't feel neglected. Other offices I've held include philanthropy chair (a little stressful at times) and pledge class historian.
I would really like to be rush chair this upcoming year. I have lots of really great ideas for skits and such. Plus I have a big big big desire to let other girls know just how awesome my sorority is.
ZetaLuvBunny--Definitely don't be discouraged because you didn't get the office you really wanted. That happened to me when I was a pledge but I didn't let it bother me. I just let the active sisters see that I would make a good leader in the future and they ended up asking me to run for 1st v-p. Definitely become an officer if you can once you're initiated. Being an officer has taught me so many lessons on patience and understanding. I've also become a much better leader by being an officer.
Allison :)
I was the pledge class president (the worst job in the world-I loved every minute of it), and am now currently the scholarship chair.
KillarneyRose 09-27-2001 01:34 AM
When I was a collegian I held the following offices at one time or another:
Pledge Class President
Academic Chair
Panhellenic Representative
Greek Week Chair
Social Chair
Recording Secretary (Exec. Board position)
Everything except for Pledge Class President took a great deal of time but I'm the type of person who actually functions more effectively when I have a great deal on my plate. And besides, I got a bunch of dangles for my pin out of it :)
AlphaGam1019 09-27-2001 01:56 PM
I'm only in charge of the chapter's webpage. It's the only thing I have time for! I hope that everyone who takes on/took on an office feels like they CAN take on the office and isn't slack! I've seen some lame officers :-P
The1calledTKE 09-27-2001 01:59 PM
Pledge class president? My chapter's pledges never had and kind of office all pledges are equal here.
Guard: stand @ the door restrict entries...maintain order in meetings
Alumnae & Senior Relations: Alumni ritual, newsletter, senior farewells...
Director of Finance: aka Treasurer
VP of Recruitment for 2003: NOT recruitment chair... :D
OUlioness01 12-25-2002 04:28 PM
Philanthropy chair, ending in January when I become secretary. It really feels good to hold some sort of postition because that way you know youare really doing something worthwhile to make a difference (at least i did when i was raising money for CMN)
Rudey 12-25-2002 07:15 PM
Master (President)
Lt. Master (Vice President)
Academic Chair
Webmaster
Historian
-Rudey
--Academic chair took the least amount of time...for everything else, I should have received a salary with over-time and year-end bonus.
jharb 12-25-2002 09:05 PM
The past year (since I pledged in Jan 2002) I was the assistant secretary which holds the responsibility of corresponding secretary. I was just elected Recording Secretary of my house which means I am in charge of initiation, our archives, recording meeting minutes and attendance issues. I was also a member of the bylaws revision comittee and the head of the Rush/Fraternity Orientation Interest Group.
KSigkid 12-25-2002 11:01 PM
Alumni chair
Secretary
President
IFC chair (as fill-in during two semesters)
President and secretary both took up a lot of time, but in different ways. Secretary did because of doing all of the chapter paperwork, taking care of attendance/voting eligibility figures, and stuff like that. For president, it's a lot more keeping tabs on what committee chairs/other executive committee members were doing, and just thinking 24/7 about new ways of running the chapter.
Dionysus 12-25-2002 11:17 PM
VP Social
SGA representative (that one really sucked)
Historian (twice)
I wouldn't touch a treasurer or secretary position with a 10 ft. pole, despite SEVERAL offers. :eek: No organizational skills.
AXO_MOM_3 12-26-2002 04:55 PM
Undergraduate - Assistant Recruitment Chair, Recruitment Chair and CRIC (Collegiate Recruitment Information Chair)
Graduate - Chapter Recruitment Advisor - five years
Recruitment is an extremely important and huge job! It takes a lot of hard work and planning, with not enough appreciation! I think it is a difficult job that takes a dedicated individual to pull off right!
KSig RC 12-26-2002 06:57 PM
Vice President and Ritualist
