Back In The Days . . . . .
My parents used to own a station wagon with the back folded up for a seat and you seat looking backward. Oh yeah, there was no seat belt and you want to puke.
Whenever I travelled with the folks on a plane, they asked if we would like to sit in the smoking or non smoking section. When I wanted to make a mix tape, I had to have two decks, one to play and one to record. Also, if I didn't have the album, I would wait and listen on the radio. When they played it, I recorded it. Having a discman was cool. Used to chat using telnet Had to actually arranged to hang out with friends. Wasting hundred of dollars playing Mortal Kombat Actually camping out for concert tickets And the unsung heroes of toys: http://www.nathansmusclepage.com/col...ackopen_sm.jpg |
Anybody remember Captain Power and the Soldier of the Futures?

*Playing "Where in the world is Carmen San Diego" on what were like the oldest Macs ever (they weren't even in color).
*Painting in MS paint in the school library in 4th grade. It kept us entertained for HOURS. *The Easy Bake Oven. It took forever, because in reality, you were cooking with a lightbulb. *QUINTS. You know, the 5 little dolls that had the house, the bike, the school bus. *The Barbie Manhattan Dream House with the elevator. *Being judged by the depth of your Barbie collection. *TEDDY RUXPIN. YAY. *When the Happy Meal came with Christmas Kermit, Elmo, and Miss Piggy. I'm pretty sure I was like 5. *When we got SUPERSCOPE for our Super Nintendo and were seriously the coolest kids on our street. *TGIF. We ALWAYS had pizza on Fridays because TGIF was on. *When SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS were a BIG deal. Like, I would get up at 7, get some Fruit Loops, and park it in front of the TV until like 11. *The MC Hammer cartoon Hammerman. *Wild and Crazy Kids on Nickelodeon. *When Nickelodeon actually showed TV for KIDS. Not all this Drake and Josh/Zoey 101 teen crap. *Mickey Mouse Club, Win Lose or Draw, and other awesome Disney Shows. *NOT having cell phones. I went to my little cousin's cheer practice the other day, and 5th graders had cell phones! Most of my friends and I didn't get a cell phone until we had JOBS at like age 16. *Dial up. I would sign onto AOL, go take a shower, get out, and it would STILL not be signed on. *Pagers. Everybody wanted one. Bonus if yours was like pink or something. *Giga/Nano pets. I had 3 at one point. |

And I effin loved Pogs. I still have my container of pogs somewhere in my house! Back in elementary/middle school there was also those spinning tops that we used to play with. You'd wind the string around top (and around your finger) then you'd throw it to the ground and watch it spin. I never got the hang of it. I never had Barbies, and I'm glad. I had baby dolls, a big wheel, a NERF football, a NES, and then later a SNES. I could go from girl to tomboy in an instant! lol |

ew. ugh. ...that's all I gotta say about the Smurfs.... Anyone remembering having your childhood shattered when finding out that Scooby Doo and Shaggy were high on weed and because of their high were almost always the first ones to see the ghosts and something had to be in Scooby snacks that they almost always did any and everything to get one, Fred and Daphne were lovers who sometimes included Velma to watch because she was a repressed lesbian and that it was hinted that Freddy may have been bi after all? |

Oh yeah...and I was at Express in NYC last spring and they had a big display of stirrup pants. I absolutely DEMANDED that those not come back in style. |

David the Gnome! I mention this to people and they look at me like I’m crazy. Swift the fox was my favorite. :) And Robot Chicken IS pretty sweet. |

1. on the second floor, 2. Facing the moon, 3. it had a window seat, 4. the window opened up like it did on the Torkelsons. OMG I wanted that house sooooo bad, but it had water damage. Instead we got this crappy house (which by the way had water damage as well, it just wasn't evident like in the other house). |
*The JOY of candy. Seriously, candy could make EVERYTHING better. It was also WAY cheaper than it is now. I remember when a bag of M&Ms was NOT like $1.50.
*Back before Trix cereal was fruit shaped. It used to be just colored balls (like Kix). *When it was a MUST to go get Lucky Charms if they came out with a NEW MARSHMALLOW. *Going to bed at 8:30. Pretty sure every kid on my block went to bed at the same time. *Swinging on the swings, letting it go as high as it could, and then jumping off. *Tetherball and 4 Square at recess. *Lunchboxes! I had a Barbie one. *THE ICE CREAM MAN. You would drop EVERYTHING to go beg your mom for like 50 cents so you could go get something! |

Ah, back in the day.......
I watched Thundercats, Voltron, He-Man, She-Ra, Inspector Gadget, You Can't Do That On Television, and Double Dare. I wasn't allowed to watch TV until my homework was done (and my babysitter would rat on me if I did), and there was no way I could do all my homework between 3:15 (when I got home) and 4 (when Voltron came on). So I snuck into my dad's office and watched on his old TV set, which was hooked up to the house's antenna (remember those?). After the show, I finished my homework. There were sooo many ads for sugary cereals. I remember all the hype over the introduction of purple horseshoes in Lucky Charms. But my parents would never let me have the sugary stuff. I got cornflakes. :( When I was in elementary school, break-dancing was all the rage. My friends and I had Garbage Pail Kids cards. I think I still have some of mine somewhere. Maybe I should eBay them. And then there were the Cabbage Patch Kids. The company that made them had a store in NYC called "Babyland on Fifth" where you could watch the dolls being "born" in a "cabbage patch". I owned many pairs of stirrup pants, and I actually looked good in them. (Sadly, this is no longer true.) |

To quote Joe Diffie: "I got my first truck when I was three, drove a hundred thousand miles, on my knees." |
I was all about PBS back in the day.... The Chronicles of Narnia, Degrassi Junior High, Anne of Green Gables, Getting to Know Me, and Powerhouse.
Awwwwwww POWERHOUSE is coming throuuuugh, POWERHOUSE think of what you could do! |
When Sea Monkeys were the thing even though they would end up dieing on you.
Or when you would try to out shine your friends playing with Skip It I remember going outside in my Power Wheels and driving around the neighborhood too |
OMG RetroJunk has quotes from the shows!
