Grammy's 2009

Anyone else watching? What's your opinions on the winners? The performances?

Okay...Carrie Underwood's performance. I really like that song, but I felt like her voice just faded into the music and I couldn't really hear her.

I forgot it was on and started tivo'ing it right at Carrie's performance....Her skirt was way to short...not flattering at all IMO.

BabyPiNK_FL 02-08-2009 10:11 PM

Now they have Stevie Wonder singing Jonas Brothers...we're all fucked.

LucyKKG 02-08-2009 10:16 PM

I'm guessing my TV has everything on later since I'm in CA (even though it says Live...)

Did anyone else think Paula Abdul was high as a freaking kite? She was such a spazz!

AGDee 02-08-2009 10:32 PM

I can proudly say that I just saw and heard the Jonas Brothers for the first time.

I like that Coldplay song.

DreamfulSpirit 02-08-2009 10:35 PM

I usually don't mind a lot of U2 songs...but the song they opened the Grammy's with, I don't know...I just didn't like it.

tld221 02-08-2009 10:38 PM

I agree with the above on Carrie Underwood. I really wanted to hear her sing (to see what the hoopla is) and all I heard was the music.

I actually liked the outfit. Though the sleeves were weird-esp cause it was a short dress.

I was so looking forward to katy perry, and I thought it was awful. Too over-the-top for this year's tone of the show. Clearly a "wheeee look at me and my first grammy performance" deal. Esp because kanye/estelle went right after her and got the shaft.

What was that miley cyrus/taylow swift song? Was that some special bonding thing they had going, cause I didn't get it.

Anyone else think there are way too many performances, more than usual? And they totally cut out a host-smart move economically, but I definitely noticed it.

DreamfulSpirit 02-08-2009 10:41 PM

I do have to say it was awesome seeing Blink 182 together!!!

BabyPiNK_FL 02-08-2009 10:47 PM

I'm thinking that the votes were so split between all the other awesome songs that a song not many people have ever heard won for the year? "Please Read This Letter"? What?! Not that Allison isn't great, but I've never even heard that song and the others were EVERYWHERE.

And poor MIA, standing backstage, she's actually due TODAY, and they catch her scratching her head and holding her tummy because their camera people are just going too fast.

tld221 02-08-2009 11:01 PM

Lmao is that was she was doing? She totally looked caught off guard!

What the freak was that outfit tho? Ugh.

Ps love love love the throwback 80s prom look kanye got goin. he does not mess.

That album is actually really good - I wouldn't have purchased it if I had not have heard them on NPR. One of the videos was on CMT a bit, too. Maybe the artistic element is what got it going?

I dunno - just grasping at straws :)

Tsk, tsk Chris Brown

sunnyhibiscus 02-09-2009 12:06 AM

I saw the Jonas Brothers perform for the first time. Sorry, but they don't impress me. Stevie Wonder is 100 times better than those three.

Baby Pink, you can include Adele to the "never heard of him/her" list. I'm going to have to listen to her songs.

knight_shadow 02-09-2009 12:20 AM

I'm just getting to watch the show now. Whitney looks amazing. Glad to see she's back on track.

BabyPiNK_FL 02-09-2009 12:22 AM

This is ridiculous. Allison & crew. ENUNCIATE. It sounds like you are just mumbling your way through the songs. I am irritated beyond belief. I want to rip your 2009 awards from your hands just for that alone.

ETA: I am furious that they won album of the year after that. This is not the first year she has won awards for songs no one has ever heard of, it has also happened in the past. I follow music pretty well and I didn't even know she had a CD out.

Calm down. The Grammys and most other award shows are about merit, not popularity. The only winners that I like are Jennifer Hudson and Coldplay.

BabyPiNK_FL 02-09-2009 12:42 AM

Sorry, all that mumbling just got on my last nerves. It's my pet peeve. And just because something is popular doesn't mean it has less merit.

Chris Brown is being held for bail of $50,000! He reported to police custody @ 7pm LA time. Rihanna just checked out of the hospital. According to CBS4's LA affiliate.

I've never heard of that song or that album or over Robert Plante doing anything with Alison Kraus. An award for Pop? Really? Pretty sure that's country. Pissed me off.

Kanye looked like a Michael Jackson Wannabe-Jackass. Is he that desperate for attention?

LOVE Stevie Wonder. And Adele's song "Chasing Pavements" is played on VH1 every morning for the last few months. It's one of my favorites but I haven't listened to her other songs. I really dig her voice.

I'll call the Grammy peeps and let them know you don't like their choices. BTW, I don't think they care.

You obviously don't listen to bluegrass/country and that is ok. But, just because you've never heard of something doesn't mean it doesn't have merit, either. You also DO NOT follow music well or you would know she has had ELEVEN albums. Oh, and she's won more Grammy's than any other woman in Grammy history.

Plant/Krauss have a VERY eclectic sound. And, when you have two industry giants collaborating, the Grammy voters (industry peeps) are going to fall all over them, natch.

Unregistered- 02-09-2009 03:22 AM

Ha. Miley Cyrus totally sang Taylor's song better.

I do know who Allison Krauss is, I have for a VERY long time I also know that she is a very respected artist and has been around for along time. Stop making ASSumptions. I'm entitled to my opinion. I don't think they were deserved, but she won them. Good for her. It's not that deep. It's really not.

ASSumptions? No, sweets. I'm just using whatcha gave me. You said you didn't know she had a CD out and she sang songs NO ONE has heard of. If you are going to say stupid shit, at least have the backbone to back it up.

Apparently it IS that deep or you would not have come on here bitching and moaning about the whole thing... ----->

And, it's ALISON, not Allison.

CrackerBarrel 02-09-2009 08:43 AM

Glad Kraus and Plant won record of the year. The only other album nominated that I've heard a single track off of was the MIA album and it's only notable because the title track is annoying as all hell. Yes it's funny to play at parties, but so was "Soulja Boy".
(To be fair I do know who the other artists are, the reason I haven't heard their songs is because I'm not a big radio listener and I only listen to artists I like).

Rumor is...supposedly he hit her (if it is indeed her he hit) because SHE gave HIM an STD.

Again...just a rumor.

ORLY?

Plant & Krauss are a "safe" choice - they're not going to give it to a rap album, Radiohead is too weird and Coldplay is on their way out (thank God).

Please Read the Letter is played constantly over AAA radio and I would hope that it's also gotten adult contemporary play in some of the less backward markets.

AOIIalum 02-09-2009 02:45 PM

Paul McCartney with Dave Grohl on drums? They could have started and stopped right there and I'd been happy!

That new U2 song is much better live, but that's not saying much. Loved Jennifer Hudson, never have and never will get Coldplay, remarked to my 12 year old that M.I.A. looked ready to have that baby right then and there, 12 year old never has and never will get Radiohead, and refused to watch most anyone else.

Whatever happened to the days where they actually gave out the AWARDS on the broadcast?

a.e.B.O.T. 02-09-2009 09:52 PM

LOL, people bitch because they have never head of the person, OR they bitch because they think the person won due to popularity... ... ... ... ... sounds like just bitching to me...

I wish M.I.A. did Paper Planes, and I wish she had actually won some, because I do think that song is just freaking fantastic...

I hate katy perry, i said it, and its too true. She is a spectacle, and she knows it, which is the part that kills me, she knows it!!! rggg...

Jonas Brother, Miley, and Taylor need to go to college, smoke some weed, live a little, and then come back to the music business

Blink 182 is BACK, YAY, that so made my day

Jennifer Hudson made me cry...

I liked Kanyes haircut, not at first, but it grew on me ten seconds later...

How can you win country collaboration with vocals, AND pop collaboration with vocals for the same song???

Really? I heard it's cause she got SUUUUPER upset that Chris "checked out" another girl at the pre-grammy party.

And one of the New York mags/newspapers confirmed it was Rihanna that he hit.

the supposed "herpes" was spotted a couple weeks ago, and he has been buddy buddy with Rhiana since...

I think one of the reason why they didn't give it to Radiohead is because they're still pissed off that Radiohead gave the album away for free and decided to go on their own direction when it come to distribution.

I believe this rumor more than the STD one. There were several rumors of her chasing off anyone who was looking his direction. And I added the bolded because he is innocent until proven guilty.

The Grammys were good except for the Wackness Brothers and their attempt to sing Superstition. I wanted it to stop!
