JuicyCampus is shutting down!!!

Just found this link: http://juicycampus.blogspot.com/

If this is true, our college campuses are far better off! For a year and a half, greeks have had free reign to cut each other down with total anonymity. Hopefully we'll have more civility now.

That is awesome! I have so many friends that were very hurt by that site. Unfortunately, they may be a victim of the "originator" syndrome and a more profitable model may show up in the future, but I am so glad they are gone. I know girls whose reputations were ruined by bitter enemies, men that were outed unfairly before they could work up the courage to do it themselves, sororities whose recruitments were decimated...it was truly a mess.

So JuicyCampus is shutting down, great.

It's only a matter of time before a copycat site starts up and does the same thing.

I fear the same thing. Why don't people learn?

True, but for example, if five copycat sites start up the readership will be more spread out. I know of one gossip site that was before JC, but the problem with JC is that EVERYBODY across the state knew about it. If a lot of copycat sites show up at the same time, it will be hard for one site to have the majority of the market share that JC had.

JohnnyCash 02-04-2009 10:46 PM

I always saw this website as a complete joke, I was even mentioned a few times lol.

But yeah, I agree, it's only a matter of time before a copycat website pops up.

SWTXBelle 02-04-2009 10:58 PM

Any copycats will have the same financial problems JC did - so probably won't last long.

puglover 02-04-2009 11:50 PM

The world will be a better place without it!

Awww you beat me to it! I am ecstatic it's finally going away. I just hope that copycat websites don't pop up like OTW said. This just made my day though especially with our recruitment coming up in the next weeks! The timing couldn't have been better!

Bye bye JuicyCampus.

ZetaGirl22 02-05-2009 02:46 AM

That is great news. That site literally made me ill, and since recruitment is going on at my alma mater right now, I really hope no PNMs were influenced by it. Thank God that stupid website is gone!

traditionsf 02-06-2009 01:52 AM

I'm glad it's gone. Free speech is valuable, but that doesn't mean people aren't accountable for what they say.

AznSAE 02-06-2009 06:13 AM

it's not gone. juicy campus leads you to a new version and people are already posting.

KeyFan 02-06-2009 09:08 AM

Thank goodness this site is gone. It was a hinderance to recruitment and it hurt so many young vulnerable students. Perhaps this is one of the few good things about the economic downturn.. no sponsors for JC!

AlphaDeltaDelta 02-06-2009 09:34 AM

I was actually always amused on people's perspectives of my fraternity. As social chair, I found it informative to read how people viewed us and used it as a way to improve our image and parties. I won't say I'll exactly miss the site, but it was often an amusing diversion.

mcdavis4 02-06-2009 03:04 PM

If you go to juicycampus it sends you to collegeacb.com. Its blogspot looks a lot like jc. I'm not sure if it is ran by the same people are not, but hopefully this one will die quickly and before more kids are hurt.

Does anyone remember the site from like 5 years ago for colleges that had event listings & stuff like that, but also had a gossip board? All I can think of is Live something.

Get gossip and slander back to where it belongs, live and in person!

I used to frequent CollegeClub.com back in the day. I know it had a gossip board, but I doubt it's the site you're talking about.

GatorDG 02-07-2009 12:12 AM

It seems that this list has different schools from JC. I hope it does not expand.

Yep, I'll admit, I checked it out. It's the same ole, same ole, different format, same s***.

It had my alma mater. We didn't even make the JC or Facebook first list of schools.

PeppyGPhiB 02-07-2009 02:00 AM

Possibly one of the most pathetic aspects of JC was that its staff was obviously starting a bunch of the threads...on all the boards. I noticed a pattern of questions and answers, so I compared it to several other schools' boards, and the exact same questions were there. JC was just trying to start $#!^ - they manipulated students and turned them against each other. Some people (the founders, who went to Duke), just don't know what to do with what they have.

OMG hells yeah CollegeClub.com. I frequented that site quite regularly back in the day-like 1999-2000ish. I dont remember its gossip boards being quite as insidious though. We DID have a website that was specific to our school. Terpidiots.com. There was some nastiness on there, though. Difference was, you had to sign up to use it, so if you said something, it was quite easy to track down who you were.

33girl 02-07-2009 05:03 PM

OMG I forgot about terpidiots. That was like an E True Hollywood Story. There was nastiness to be sure, but at least people were in general pretty witty about it - unlike JC.

All quite true, and if someone got REALLY out of line, it would be found out who you were IRL quite quickly and you would DEF be called out. I actually knew the guys who started it. I went to HS with them.

JohnnyCash 02-09-2009 01:31 AM

My school is on this "CollegeACB" thing or whatever, but it's not the same.

JuicyCampus lost it's novelty at my school by the time it was shut down, so I doubt anything else will become as popular as JC once was.

migreek 02-09-2009 08:50 PM

studentsreview.com seems to be somewhat popular

phisiglindsey 02-11-2009 04:01 PM

I definitely won't miss JC. Although it was entertaining to see what idiots posted about Greeks. It was so obvious on our JC that non Greeks tried so hard to make all the Greeks hate each other. We often joked about being "JC Celebrities". It's a relief that it's gone! :)

Verity 02-17-2009 07:31 PM

Good riddance. That stupid site did nothing but ruin people's reputations and lives. And for what? The personal kicks and laughter of nameless, faceless gutless people. Pathetic.
Lol, I remember when I found my name on there (I knew who had posted it though, SUCH a hater). I mean I know you wanna be like me but damn, don't hate on me in cyberspace! Can you say something to my face??

I was quite proud of myself for writing it after writing a grant proposal all day. :)
