US Air Flight crashes into the Hudson

CNN is reporting that a US Air flight with over 100 passengers has just crashed into the Hudson. It left LaGuardia bound for Charlotte. Passenger ferries have rushed to the scene.

I was watching it on CBS. They're saying that it was a bird strike.

US Airways flight down in New York's Hudson River

Emergency officials are responding to a downed plane in the Hudson River in New York City, according to the city fire and police departments. The FAA confirmed US Airways Flight 1549, an Airbus A320 headed from New York's LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina, was down in the river following a failed takeoff. The U.S. Coast Guard said units were also responding, and a ferry on site was dropping life jackets into the water.

Good news. According to CBS, police officials just said everyone is out of the plane safely.

They said everyone was able to step from the plane onto the rafts, but the plane is now sinking.

I think it's already under now. I don't see it anymore, plus the water is very cold.

Now, Judge Mathis is on.

ForeverRoses 01-15-2009 05:15 PM

Watching it sink on CNN was very eerie. Thank God everyone got off safely!

Wolf Blitzer is interviewing several of the passengers on the phone

srmom 01-15-2009 05:23 PM

Okay, THAT would be scary as heck! I have issues with take off/landing, white knuckling the whole time.

This would be my LAST flight!!

Benzgirl 01-15-2009 05:26 PM

The birds~

srmom 01-15-2009 05:29 PM

This guy they are interviewing said that there was a loud bang and then the pilot said, "Prepare for Impact!" OMG - I'd have a heart attack right then and there.

He did say the impact was not that bad, that the pilots did an amazing job.:o

AKA_Monet 01-15-2009 06:40 PM

They are showing witness pictures and the passengers were waiting to be picked up by somebody. They were relatively "okay" (that's not what I would say--but is the only thing that comes to mind). I am glad everyone was able to get off and be "relatively" okay.

Hats' off to the pilots and the crew...

My crazy brother sent me a text and started this conversation:

Brother: Having plane trouble?

( Of course he would make a comment like that. lol)

PJ: well goose trouble

(Thinking about getting HIS "goose")

PJ: I'm waiting for them to pull us out - nobody's hurt

Brother: Are you on the plane?

(Image of brother going white in the face)

PJ: That's what you get for being slick, punk :) - I'm at my office

Brother: Ha ha. they all made it off. good pilot.

ETA: And, THANK GOD they're all ok. I would have passed out for real.

I'm confused. Do you work for an airline?

Nope - I'm just nearby where it crashed.

What??? They are terrorist birds and you're sending condolences to the family?? I think their family members should be sent to Gitmo for questioning. Does waterboarding work on birds??

ETA: Seriously though, thank goodness everybody was ok. The pilots and flight attendants did an amazing job. I did hear that 43 people were taken to area hospitals. May they all have a quick recovery.

That is just cruel, but brilliant. Well played madame.

My BFF is flying USAir to Vegas tomorrow, and I'm taking Alaska Airlines down. I wonder if people are going to be skittish on the flight.

I'm assigned to the exit row...good thing I'm bossy in the event of a water landing or other emergency.
