Here We Go, Steelers, Here We Go!!

For those who don't know, the mayor of Pittsburgh is named Luke Ravenstahl. In order to correct any unsympathetic thoughts about his loyalty to our beloved Steelers, Mayor Ravenstahl has officially changed his name to "Steeler-stahl"! He does plan to change his name back to Ravenstahl on Monday.

We take our Steelers SERIOUSLY around here!!

Luke Ravenstahl is hot. Srsly. When I lived there, there was a billboard between work and my house that had his picture on it and said "Let's Redd Up Pittsburgh" and every time I saw it I wanted to take it down and move it to my apartment.

So hot. Too bad he's married.

And yeah, Steelers is serious business.

So it's like saying "Steeler-steel". Kinda like saying "I'm going to the grocery store supermarket." LOL ;)

agzg 01-14-2009 02:04 PM

Meh, I'm sure some dahntahn Pittsburghers have mangled the English language worse, 'n 'at.

Or as the car bumper stickers say, n@.

ETA: I'm a little disappointed that I'm not there - the last time the Steelers won the Super Bowl I was in Erie. I've yet to experience the true pandemonium that ensues in Pittsburgh when they win the AFC championship.

Live-in was there for the Super Bowl, though. He actually got to go to the AFC Championship game (his roommate was a photographer for the Steelers). Oakland was on practical lockdown - apparently they thought there would be riots? I'm guessing it sounds something like Chicago did when Obama won the election. Honking horns, people screaming, etc. - in general a fun time!

Jerome Bettis is still my favorite football player ever, and mostly because he looks so cuddly.

No... It's officially Steeler-stahl, at least until Monday! They showed the ceremony on tv.

The odds of the Ravens beating the Steelers? Nevermore!

33girl 01-14-2009 11:30 PM

First good decision Lukey has made in a long while.

I'm not sure if I actually want to be out and watching the game somewhere or in hiding from the craziness. This game is going to be ugggggglleeeee.

DaemonSeid 01-18-2009 11:30 PM

Congrats...don't sleep on Warner

Still high on Black-n-Gold Fever!

Congratulations to the Ravens as being a worthy opponent. I sincerely hope that McGahee turns out to be 100% okay.

That hit was awful! I was hoping to see the thumbs up from him while being taken off the field, but it didn't happen. Although, during the game, they said that he's moving his arms and legs now, so hopefully he'll be alright.

Other than that, good game. I will admit that the Steelers are pretty much my least favorite team, but I will cheer for them only because my boyfriend likes them (and he cheered for the Patriots with me last year) :)

In all honesty, I thought our Clark would have been hurt worse - both of his legs went up in the air, and I thought for sure that he would have been at least winded. But, I guess they train for that.

Yea, but Clark kind of lifted his head right after the hit. McGahee was immediately down and didn't really move. I figured there was no way he was walking off the field.

violetpretty 01-19-2009 02:38 AM

AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! So excited!

He should be Steelerstaal....like Jordan Staal. P.S. I loved when Fleury came out with his Steelers helmet and Terrible Towel after the Rangers game!

And congratulations are due to a worthy opponent. I think Mike Tomlin put it well in the post game press conference, "[The Ravens] bring out the best in us.....we are who we are because of them..." A classy guy, that Mike Tomlin.

This morning's paper just said that McGahee had spent the night in the hospital as a precaution - no update on his condition.

Now, you've all heard of the Steeler Nation - but we're now officially The Steeler Universe!!! Scroll down to "click here" and enjoy seeing the Terrible Towel in zero gravity!

KillarneyRose 02-01-2009 01:49 PM

This is our first Superbowl without Myron Cope :(

But you know he's up there in Stiller Heaver sipping an I.C and munching on O Fries and if you hear a big "yoi" echoing down from the sky you'll know where it came from :)

GO STILLERS!!!

agzg 02-01-2009 01:58 PM

mmmmmmmmm... dirty O's... mmmmmmm

honeychile 02-01-2009 03:22 PM

I'm hoping for a Double Yoi! I hope they dedicate the game to Myron.

KillarneyRose, you'll be thrilled to know that we have kielbossi ready for halftime (among the rest of the goodies). Interesting siggy, btw. ;)

agzg 02-01-2009 04:14 PM

So live-in and I ran to the grocery store to get sub rolls for our meatball sandwiches (this is the third Super Bowl since we started dating and we have them every year - diets be damned!) and we saw these cute little cookie cakes that were decorated with footballs, in either Steelers or Cardinals colors and with little sayings or whatever on them.

Well, some hooker snagged the last Steelers specific cookie as we were running up to grab it! We were PISSED (she should have known - I mean I'm wearing my freaking Steelers hoodie). So we went up to the bakery, where there was a girl decorating more. We said "Oh oh oh can you do one with just black and yellow? We're Steelers fans!" She said OK.

We're happy as can be with it, however, if we had ordered it special, it would definitely be sent to Jen from Cake Wrecks:

Oh well! I think having a Steelers cookie cake (wreck) will be a new Super Bowl tradition (even if the Steelers aren't in)!

Weren't Steelers fans cheering as McGahee was lying on the ground?

No. I don't know about other teams, but when someone's injured - no matter which team - Pittsburgh fans applaud that he's okay.

AGDee 02-01-2009 09:59 PM

I'm rooting for the Steelers!

amanda6035 02-01-2009 11:15 PM

wow. what a game. I'm not even that big into football, but that was impressive.

Thetagirl218 02-01-2009 11:27 PM

I am sick as a dog, and lied on the couch the whole time....I thought I should watch it since the Super Bowl is in my home town...

I am upset that the Cardinals lost, but the Steeler's offense made the plays that counted.

I think #92 should have gotten the MVP award though...even though he did punch somebody...

AGDee 02-02-2009 12:02 AM

The Cardinals definitely hung in there and made it exciting!

honeychile 02-02-2009 12:10 AM

My hat's off to a VERY exciting opponent! My heart was in my mouth for the last 5 minutes of the game!

Interesting thing about Mike Tomlin (Steeler Coach): he went to William and Mary!

squirrely girl 02-02-2009 12:24 AM

i totally just won a tattoo from this game.

I felt like I was going to throw up when Larry Fitzgerald got his second TD, but 2:30 left, that's Big Ben time. And he delivered. A little too exciting of a game for me, but that seems to be the Steelers' signature this season. Congrats to the Cardinals for making it farther than no one expected.

And another interesting fact, while at W&M, Tomlin played James Farrior (UVA).

SIXBURGH BABY!!!!!

It was a scary moment in the living room when the Cardinals scored their last touchdown. Our resident Steeler fan looked like he was ready to jump off the 16th floor lanai. His wife made sure to stand by the door just to be sure.

I cheered for the Cardinals, but I have to admit, it was a fantastic game.

DaemonSeid 02-02-2009 08:45 AM

Congrats to Mike Tomlin...

The 2nd African American (in less than five years) and the YOUNGEST coach to win a Super Bowl.

ASTalumna06 02-02-2009 12:43 PM

Congrats to the Steelers

(but not to the majority of their fans who I generally find obnoxious and who were mad and yelling at me last night because I wouldn't cheer for their team. Sorry, but not everyone is a Steelers fan!)

Anyway... Did you all really think this was the greatest Super Bowl ever? I live in Steeler country and everyone here is saying this. I also keep reading all these polls online, which basically say the same thing. Off the top of my head, I can think of about 5 other Big Games that were more exciting than this one.

I also feel like this is said almost every year after the Super Bowl. They all can't be the best.

Thoughts?

agzg 02-02-2009 12:50 PM

As far as exciting moments - this one did it for me. But, I wouldn't say it was the greatest Super Bowl ever. I would say it was historic, though.

I also wouldn't call the Steelers the greatest franchise in American sports. That's what one of the commentators called them, though.

I haven't seen enough Super Bowls to say that it was the greatest, but it was the most exciting game I've ever seen. There was one college game that was pretty good, too.

I'd say that the Steelers are one of the greatest sport franchises. I'm wracking my brain to name four others that would enjoys the fan, team, and front office loyalty that the Steelers have. I'm not saying that there isn't one, just that I don't know of one.
