The guy with the crazy bass voice was scaaaarrrrryyyyy.

lol--& it didn't seem like he sang 1 note. He was talking with his deep voice.

lol.... I felt kinda bad for him. :( What's he gonna do with that damn voice?

The rocker dude was lame, the X-Ray guy CRACKED me up, pink cowboy hat chic has potential, and deep voice guy reminds me of ben stein in ferris bueller

They told him the right thing- he could probably do great at voiceover work!

JB and the 16 year old girl have very nice voices. I hope they advance through the Hollywood round.

He can get some speech therapy to find his *real* voice- because that wasn't it.

OMG, I LOVE Kara Dioguardi.

She called bikini girl, "Bitch!" That was awesome. I love when she told her America would only know her as "Top" and "Bottom."

And, she was completely right about girl not having the chops for that song...

Too bad bikini girl didn't realize that Ryan did not WANT to make out with her.

Cowboy hat was highly irritating. Bikini girl needs a good swift kick to her ego, and then she'd be great.

No. Her voice is fundamentally NOT good. You shouldn't have to move your head to control your vocal movements. Moving her head was the only way she could do the runs and even then she missed notes and sounded off in places.

Just. Not. Good. And. Thinks. Her. Body. Should. Buy. Her. Way. In.

And, I guess it just did.

I'm not musical, so it sounded good to me, honestly. Kara's was better though. I always hate it when the contestants try to tell the judges something. They're judges because they've already made it. You're a contestant because you haven't.

My husband said, "It sounded really good to me." :)

Umm, she is hot and has a mediocre voice... can she be American Idol? I believe there IS precedent

I cannot wait until Kara vs Bikini girl ROUND 2 in Hollywood.

Haha. My boyfriend would've too if he watched it. I don't know anything about techniques, I just thought it sounded pretty decent to me. They didn't show many that were really amazing, so I guess there wasn't a lot to compare her to.

I wasn't insulting the talent, but the cliche edit...

But, since they aren't doing Idol gives back this season, how are they going to tug on our heartstrings? ;)

Copied from the Miss America thread....I saw "American" in the title and got confused.

That "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" guy was good but he completely oversang the song. I was surprised the judges didn't say anything about it.

The last girl who sang was really good! Randy said it perfectly when he described her as a combination of Fantasia and Mary J. Blige. I really hope to see her in the Top 12.

On a lighter note, I saw a friend of mine from the college years in one of the clips!

I disagree, I think it is CLASSIC american idol... they love to do those cliche edits with over-played sympathy songs... My favorite was last season, when that big short black girl had to take care of her and her mom (mom being in the hospital), and they gave her so much time, and you just felt SOOOO bad to this girl, and she totally bombed singing, but in an adorable way. You SOO wanted her to be good, and she SOO wasn't and instead of laughing, you felt SOO freaking bad for her, that I am surprised they didn't put up a phone number for a donation line....

p.s. I would of totally donated!!!

I really thought the first words out of Simon's mouth were going to be that it was too "broadway." I was surprised he liked him.

And I didn't think bikin girl was hot at all...kind of a butterface, IMO.

I agree....He so overdid it! I bet he'd be really good if he just didn't try quite so hard.

And about bikini girl - that's the whole reason she wore that....so you wouldn't look at her face....(or listen to her voice)

And here I thought they would be showing less of the people who, suck. The girl with like 3 colors in her hair (I cannot for the life of me remember what she sang). But OMG I was cringing and saying outloud "omg please stop". It was painful listening to her.
I really liked the guy who lost his wife recently, I think he sang California Dreamin' and Randy said he was one of the best. He was awesome. I really felt bad for him (losing his wife).

Didn't she sing "Somewhere over the Rainbow"? I remember wondering if she dyed her hair to go with the "rainbow" theme of her song.

I just remembered who 2 of my favorites were.....the guy who sang "Reflection", and the Banana Guy.....lol I LOVED his outfit and dance moves!!!

Over the Rainbow-guy will be knocked out pretty quickly in Hollywood. I can't see him singing much else.
I liked Jason Castro's brother. I have a hard time believing that he only began singing 20 days ago.
Loved the last girl too.
Missed many of the auditions last night -- on the phone with a friend.

Does anyone know how the votes are being done this year with the new judge, Kara? It seemed that in seasons past with the three judges, a contestant needed 2 / 3 'yes' to make it to the next round. Now it seems that the contestant only needs 2 of 4. I don't see any consistent pattern.

I read somewhere else that Simon is the "overruling judge" and if there is a tie, he breaks it.

I can not stand bikini girl. I re watched that night's show when my husband got back in town and she is such a smug little wench!! Cara definitely outsang her and she was so stupid and musically tone deaf she couldn't even tell!!!

It's going to be a good season, I'm pleased with the shows so far - more good singers, less focus on the pathetic.

Barracuda Girl from PHX is an early favorite, so is Lil Rounds from last night (the last girl to sing).

I wasn't too sure what to think about Kara as a judge, but so far I am LOVING HER.

I totally agree. She obviously is legit and a voice of reason on the panel (she and Simon). I will say though, that Paula seems remarkably sober and lucid right now. Maybe she's watching her p's & q's because she has been threatened with the BOOT.

So far, Barracuda Girl is my favorite.

I LOVED Lil Rounds. I feel so bad that she's staying in a hotel with her three babies and husband. I'm really rooting for her so that she can put her life back in order after those tornadoes.

So far I like Barracuda girl and Jason Castro's brother, and I think I can get behind Lil Rounds and the guy whose wife passed away as well.

I liked the girl who cared for her grandmother and sang Janis Joplin.
