KEF's Live Recruitment Story
Hi! My school’s formal recruitment starts this Friday and I love reading everyone’s recruitment stories so I thought I would share my own. None of my family is greek so I originally knew nothing about greek life or rush, but with the help of Greek Chat and my school’s site I am really excited. My rush is spread over two weekends and our classes start in between. I am trying to go in with an open mind so I do not know too much about each sorority’s reputations. We have 13 sororities and around 850 girls rushing, so it is not super competitive.

KEF: Good luck! I know which school you attend based on my own volunteering with the school, and I must say I'm excited to have a recruitment story from there. I can't wait to read your story, and I hope for a happy ending!!! Good luck!

Thanks everyone! (And gogreekmom, sounds like you probably do know!) I just went to dinner with my recruitment group and after we walked to the “Go Greek Night.” We did not really learn anything new from the meeting (except we are one of the biggest groups of pnm’s to go through rush at my school) but I meet a lot of nice/cool girls in my group.
Rush starts tomorrow and we see half the houses for Open House Round; unfortunately I do not know which houses and the order I am going to them yet. It’s supposed to be REALLY cold here tomorrow so I am bundling up a lot. Starting to get nervous but also really excited! Since I have a big sweet tooth I decided to have candy codenames! Hey Everyone! So I am officially done with day one of open house round and I am exhausted. My day went really well it was overwhelming at first with all the cheers but I am really glad to be rushing.
3 Musketeers – This was my first house and it was so loud! I would say I got along/clicked really well with half of the girls I talked to. With the first and last girl, I ran out of things to say. Right now this house in the middle for me. Swedish Fish – I really liked this house. For a good portion of the time I talked with two girls and we all got along really well. We talked a lot about traveling and studying abroad. The conversation really did not lag. Reese – The first girl I was paired with talked almost the entire and would ask me a general question but then just continue to talk and talk about it. The second girl was awkward and there were many lags. The final girl was ok but she was kind of over the top. Overall, I do not really feel it’s me. M&M’s – Although it was better than Reese’s, there were still some awkward pauses. We talked mainly about movies and I am not sure if I could see myself here. Kit Kat – I loved this house. They were all dressed with Lilly Pulitzer accessories and so cute. All the girls were really nice and seemed genuine, conversation flowed really well. I even met a girl from my county (I am from out of state) which was really nice. Milky Way – My mom told me that a co-worker had a daughter from this sorority and I actually was randomly matched with her. I liked these girls and the conversation was good, but still just the basic get to know you. Skittles – This house I was paired with another pnm but I felt we could have had one each. The pairing in itself was hard but the second sorority girl herself dominated the conversation. Not to mention she made some discriminatory comments. Not feeling this one too much. Although we do not rank until we visit all the sororities tomorrow, my ranking for the day is … Swedish Fish Kit Kat Milky Way 3 Musketeers M&M’s Skittles Reese |

Finally done with my second day of open house round!
Snickers – I liked this house a lot, the first girl I talked to was very charismatic and easy to talk to. I also talked to the former president which was kind of intimidating but she was really nice and when I told her I wanted to minor in Spanish and study abroad in Spain she really wanted me to meet her sister that is/did the same; I felt like they all really liked and knew each other. Also, they seemed very open to everyone. Sour Patch Kids – I came in excepting this house to be one of my favorites but the first girl I had let me down. She talked all about the things they did with frats and which frats they did them with. But the next girl and I really got along, we strayed from the usual topics and the conversation flowed well. The last girl I barely talked to but seemed nice. Starburst – opposite of Sour Patch Kids, I was expecting to dislike this house. Thanks to one girl I came out presently surprised. They were more down to earth than I expected and really friendly. Baby Ruth – This house really did not feel like me, the first girl I had gave me a bad first impression and it was hard to shake. Instead of asking questions about me she asked me multiple times if I had any questions about the sorority and I felt she left not really knowing me. The next two girls were a lot better but it was hard to shake the first girl. Twix – I also came in expecting to really like this house but was not that impressed. The girls were nice but none of us clicked like some others and it defiantly did not stand out in my mind. Kisses – this house was ok and I experienced a mix of awkward and nice girls, the thing I liked though is that they seemed to be very accepting and loved being sisters. I am sooooo exhausted and extremely nervous about tomorrow and getting a new schedule. I had a hard time ranking my middle houses and am a little worried. Philanthropy Round
Hey everyone so Sunday was Philanthropy Round and you get invited back to a total of 10 houses. I got 9 back … my top four and 2 of my least favorite. This day defiantly changed my opinion of some of the chapters (for good and bad). Here is where I went back to ….
Kit Kat - I really really liked them again and the conversation flowed really well and they were all really sweet. I talked to three sorority girls at one point and I felt like one of their friends. The only down side is they are really really popular, so it might be hard, but one girl did mention she had heard about me and was glad to met me. (but who knows if that is true/told to everyone) And the first girl I had waved bye to me as I left. They made me feel really comfortable and special! Kisses – It was an ok party, the conversation was average, but I really liked that during their video about their philanthropy they were all really supportive and clapped and cheered for each other. Also I girl I talked to yesterday came and said she was glad I was back. Baby Ruth - I ranked them ten yesterday but was glad to be back. I liked my girls a lot more today, the only thing is I am not sure I would totally fit in because they seem more high mantience and appearance oriented than I am. Milky Way - I liked them a lot again today and the conversation flowed really well, I also liked their philanthropy tonight and they also seemed to really enjoy it which I liked. Snickers - I really liked them yesterday but they really let me down today, the conversation lagged a lot today (mainly because they only wanted to talk about their philanthropy). I ranked them 5th, so right in the middle but I am expecting not to get asked back. Swedish Fish - my number one from last night sadly disappointed me, mainly the first girl, the other ones were better. Starburst - I really liked one of the girls I talked to the first night, they were average tonight but still good flowing conversation. Skittles - I hated the sorority the first night but I actually really clicked with the girl I talked to today. We both like Lost (tv show) and bonded over some other things. Big downside though is that are on probation. Reese – They are new and really small so apparently tonight they had girls come in from Ohio to help with recruitment and that is why I liked my girl better today. My Rankings ... Kit Kat Milky Way Baby Ruth Swedish Fish Snickers Kisses Starburst Skittles Reese Saturday we can invited back to a max of 6 and I am really anxious to find out my party list. As long as I get Kit Kat and Milky Way I will be happy cause they are my definite favorites as of now! |

Hey everyone,
So for the SIsterhood night where we could be invited back to six, I received five parties back but was dropped from my top 4. It was really upsetting that all four dropped me, especially since I had such good conversations in all of them. Snickers – I had talked to the girl I talked to today very briefly last party, I really liked her and we had a really good conversation. Then another girl took me on a house tour, and it was fun talking to her but not as good as the first. Reese – Really, really awkward conversation here, could not see myself here at all Kisses – I liked them a lot better today, the girls I talked with I really clicked with and reminded myself of my friends from home. I felt comfortable here. Skittles – Did not really click with the girl here like I did the other day, conversation was good but lagged at times Starburst – I talked (more like listened) to the incoming president here, then her big who was kinda stuck up, but the last girl was really easy to talk to and I really liked her. I like the way that you hung in there after the Sisterhood round, KEF. It sounds like you still had some solid choices. I notice, for instance, that you had some nice things to say about Snickers and Kisses right from the start.

Kisses was ranked first on Sisterhood night, Skittles was supposed to be the second Kisses. Sorry for the typo!

Pref Night
We could get invited back to a maximum of three and luckily and happily I was invited back to my top three! Snickers – I talked to the girl I really liked the day before. We got along, she was very chill but also nice. I really liked their pref night ceremony and the girl who spoke had a heart wrenching story. At the end of the night the sister said she could really see me there (I found out later they told everyone that and felt betrayed, especially since that reassurance factored into my ranking). Starburst – I talked to the incoming president again, or more liked listened to her most of the time. I knew tonight that this was not the house for me. Kisses – I talked to an ok girl at first, I had met her briefly the night before. But another girl I had talked to came over and we had another good conversation, I felt comfortable talking to her about all sorts of things. Their ceremony was just ok.
