Tropical_Dancer's Live Spring Rush
 

Hi everyone, my school's recruitment starts in exactly 1 week so I decided to start my recruitment story. My rush will be 4 days before classes start and bid day is the day before classes begin. I'm very excited I can't wait to go back to my dorm and see all my friends (4 out of my 5 close friends are rushing) and just want to get started with the whole process.

Almost all of my outfits are done, I just need some black pumps and a cute colored top to go with one of my skirts, a part of me thinks shopping was the best part of waiting for rush.

At my school there is 7 sororities, and I dont know how many are registered but 400 girls are in the facebook group so we will see how many of those girls show up for recruitment.

Also first semester they greeks had a showcase in their suites (no sororities have house :() so I got a small glimpse of each sorority. I'm going to name the sororities after dance styles since I really like to dance

Ballet- these girls were very nice and their suite was goregous, I'm a legacy to this group and really liked them right off the bat, and so did most of my friends

Jazz- these girls were stereotyped as the "slutty and rich" girls and also one of the "top" sororities so I went into their suite thinking they were not right for me but I was pleasantly suprised and thought these girls were really nice and sweet. One of my best friends really really wants this house.

Lyrical- this house seemed sweet and they even told me they had alot of dancers in this house and we talked about dance which was cool but at the showcase it just didnt click, but you never know I'm giving them a second chance.

Tap- This group I really just didnt click with, I didnt like thier aproach of talking up thier chapter, I was confused about what they did for philanthropy. I just left with a bad taste in my mouth so this group will need to do some catchign up to do in my mind.

Hip-Hop- this was another group I didnt really get a good impression of. I went to this one first or second so I think they could have been warming up for the night I just thought they all seemed really stanoff-ish.

Musical Theater- This group is the supposed unpopular group and theres alot of bad rumors and such about the girls but the ones I met were nice. I dont think I could click with them from what I have seen but they were nice girls

and last but not least...

Modern- I actually liked modern alot, but none of my friends did really. We met some of the same girls at the Meet the Greeks event and they remebered us and actually asked about the football game my floor was playing that weekend so I thought it was sweet. They all seemed really nice too, I think they are in my top three so far.

Those are my I guess biased first impressions of the sororities at my school. I know during rush these will probably all change but this is what I'm thinking now. Also I want to keep my recruitment live but I have seen alot of people be scared off so I dont know what I want to do yet.

I took tap and jazz when I was really little so that's what I'm rooting for! I know tap isn't on the top of your list right now...but going through rush, your opinion could change!

Aaaaww I'm so excited for you! I also danced Tap and Jazz for most of my life so I am def. rooting for them! Just remember, dont listen to what your friends think about the houses, it would be awesome for you guys to end up in the same house but it would also be awesome to end up in different houses. Just make sure you are forming your own opinions and going with the ones YOU like best. Good Luck!

As a classically trained Jazz dancer with experience in all sorts of modern dance companies...those are my top two.

And I don't click with Tap either. In fact, I suck at it. :)

As a actor who LOVES dance (once wanted to be a dancer) I'm so rooting for Ballet!

Thanks eveyone for all the sweet comments it really is starting to become a reality for me. I still dont have the outfits ready, the shoes I have been envisioning and the top I want can't be found. :rolleyes:

I still have a few days before I drive down on Wednesday. So hopefully everything will be ready

They said we were going to get our rho gammas this weekend and some of my friends did but I didnt. I paid and registered, I guess I'm just getting really paranoid thinking my stuff is lost and I wont get one. I should at least wait until tuesday before I freak its just so nerve wracking.

Not that this helps at all but I am also a very paranoid person lol. I'm supposed to start work tomorrow and I still hadn't received my schedule as of 6:30 tonight and I was like did they not get my e-mail about the hours I wanted?!

Anyways, just wanted to let you know that you're not the only paranoid person lol. But if everyone you know has gotten their rho gammas then I would suggest stopping at the greek life office and asking someone. Hope it turns out well and good luck with recruitment!

I got my rho gamma this morning to no more worrying from me, well at least on that subject im worried about everything else lol

Meeting with my Rho Gamma group today in like 10 minutes then tomorrow is the start of recruitment.

I did have one major problem today when I drove down with my dad I left all the clothes in my closet. That means all of the ones for rush I was freaking out. My dad is such an awesome dude and he is driving them to me early tomorrow morning so I will have them in time for rush. I am so grateful for him I was freaking out so much. I just cant beliee I forget them.

Oh my gosh! I can totally see my youngest daughter doing that. I practically color coded things to help her along! (gurr-animals, anyone?) Just relax, you'll be fine!! :) Good luck, I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Clothes are all here and I'm ready and just waitng for my friends so we can walk to panhellinic together. I look pretty cute, and I'm so excited. Wish me luck with round 1!

I know my dad is so awesome. My brother and him came to go make a day out of it so I guess my stupidty wasnt that bad, but still bad.

Anyway I am done with the first and boy oh boy do my feet, and I wasnt even in heels. I saw all the houses today and then made my preferences for tomorrow where i will b seeing 5 houses.

I will go in party order:

Jazz- this was the first party so I was really nervous. I met alot of girls and got offered a very cute looking mocktail but I was too nervous to take more than one sip. I got to hear alot about thier involvement with their philantropy and also about their mixers and such. I really liked them, but so do alot of other girls so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Ballet- they were next and I was really excited to see them. I watched the video first and they kept us in those chairs so it was kinda weird for their bumping. I only got bumped once and ended up talking to the same girl for like 20 minutes, she was really nice and we had a great time chit chatting, no awkward pauses.

Hip-Hop- this house sunk even lower in the ratings for me. After the video we talked but most of our conversation was how you dont have to get involved here and most sisters only go to chapter and mixers. I personally want to join a sorority to be highly invovled with them so that was a major turnoff. Also this same girl totally just bailed out of our conversation to talk to anothr group for like 5 minutes about track leaving me to just stand there, I was really disappointed with them.

Musical Theater- this groups video was like the best made, although I didnt like/click with the content of the video. The girls I talked to here were really nice though, and I actually met someone who went to my same highschool so that was really cool, we talked about the teachers we had and such.

Modern- This was the only party were I was rushed 2 pnms to a sister. I thought it was a little odd, also it was just weird because the floaters were just walking around and not doing that much so I couldnt see why one floater could just break our group up but whatever. Anyway this place kinda not awkward in coversation but awkward in atmosphere, this is porbably because the other pnm talked about going out and then the sister and her talked about and ladies night which made me kinda uncomfortable. So I liked them still but not as much as I did before.

Tap- tap was so much better in my mind today. My first rusher actually remember me from showcase last semester which I took as a nice compliment. they were all really friendly and really sweet. Also one of the girls on my dace team is in this chapter, the oly thing I didnt really like was they kneeled to talk to you which was kinda awkward, and it was also really loud so it was hard to hear sometimes. They definately made up ground in my mind though

and last but not least

Lyrical- This was my last party but I wasnt that exhausted. This party was very overwhelming they were so hyper. Also after they found out I danced they apparently love dancers and they went all crazy on me. I was like ahh. they were on my top three before we went in but they sunk for me. I think if I still get them tomorrow I will obviously give them a second chance but they kinda scared me with thier over eagerness.

I wouldn't hold that against them...a lot of chapters kneel. My chapter would kneel and the chapter I advise kneels. It looks better than sisters leaning over PNMs sitting in chairs. It would be better to have a chair for the sister as well, but they don't always have that luxury!

True. The chapter probably kneels because they want to be on eye level with the PNM sitting in a chair, that's all. I think it would be more awkward to be sitting down and trying to hold a conversation with a sister who is standing over you.

Ok, when she originally said that they kneeled to talk to you, I was so confused. Thinking about how we usually do things on the first night of recruitment, I was picturing her standing up, and the sister greeting her by kneeling down in front of her. But I guess it makes more sense if you were in a chair!

I didnt hold it against them at all, I just thought it was a little awkward because they were more sitting on the floor rather than kneeling so i was like talking down to them on the floor and it was a little weird but I still really liked them alot regardless of kneeling lol

I know exactly what you mean, I went to a party where we were set up like this.

Unfortunately for me I was running late when I was getting ready that day. So I decided to skip shaving my legs, even though I was wearing capris. I mean, my legs weren't that bad, you couldn't see it unless you looked for it.

Little did I know one chapter would have that seating arrangement. My stubbly legs we're pretty much right in my active's line of view. :(

Sorry everyone about not updating last night I was so tired. Ok so philanthropy day we could come up to 5 houses so I was excited. Anyway I get to my RG and i see 3 houses. At first I was really bummed, only 3 I was very bummed but then I perked up.

The 3 I had was:
Ballet
Modern
Musical Theater


The first party was Ballet- I love ballet and I loved their video about thier philanthropy, we colored at this event (and thats all that I say about these thingys) This is my mom's soroity and I really love the girls, also I talked to the same girl I talked to yesterday and she as really nice we chit chatted the whole time with no awkward pauses anywhere.

The next party was Modern- I liked their theme and all the sisters seemed vey involved with thier philanthropy which I really liked. I talked to alot of sisters but there was some awkward pauses.

The last party was Musical Theater- This party was the most uncomfortable of the 3. I liked the sisters I met the day before but the ones I met today I just didnt click with. Also I talked to the same girl for pretty much the whole time and we ran out of conversation in 5 minutes so were stuck trying to come up with things to say to keep it going.


The next day is invitational and we were supposed to rank 3 so I ranksed all of them.

Modern
Musical Theater

Today you can be invited to 3 houses so I was hoping to just get invited back to all the houses that I saw yesterday. I only got invited back to 2 houses though

I was very happy for Ballet but I was bummed that Modern dropped me, and I like the girls in Musical Theater but I dont think I really click with them.


So First House was Musical Theater- I loved thier skit. It was actually one of my favorite things so I thought that was pretty cool and I ended up talking about it with the sisters. I also met some sisters that I liked alot today but in my heart I just know this isnt for me.

The next party was Ballet- I love Ballet I feel so at home there. I loved thier skit and I loved my conversations with all the girls. I know that even if I wasnt a legacy there I would love them anyway. I just felt at home there, also what I thought was really cool that the President came up and talked to me and we had a really great conversation, and it was awesome. As I said before I feel at home here.

So Tomorrow its preference and we only go to 2 houses so I ranked both Ballet and Musical Theater so now I just have to wait and hope and pray that I get Ballet for preference.

Preference Night
 

So today was preference and I couldn't be more nervous/excited. I'm going to keep this short because re-reading my other posts I realized I ramble in these posts so much, and its just not good.

So for Preference I got:
Musical Theater
Ballet


I was really glad Musical Theater was first, I was so nervous I figured that going to this party will help losen me up, which was right. I really like these girls but I know its not right for me. I felt so bad doing the ritual and talking to the girls when I know I want to be elsewhere.

Ballet was next. I walked into their suite and they introduced us one by one it was really sweet. I got paired up with a girl I had yesterday she and I had good conversations yesterday and we had great convos today we talked about everything from classes to just hanging out. The ritual really touched me and I just know I want to be a Ballet.

So for preference I ranked
1 Ballet
2 Musical Theater


Tomorrow is Bid Day so hopefully I'm a ballet. Also 3 of my 4 friends put Ballet first and the other one put it second so hopefully I have some great new sisters tomorrow!

Here's hoping you get ballet - BUT remember, if you do end up at Musical Theatre, it may well be that like me and many others, your second choice ends up being where you were meant to be all along!
