Fall 2009 Info and Help with Recommendations: Alumnae Panhellenics

This thread is about the information sessions put on by Area Alumnae Panhellenics, and the recommendation assistance the sessions may provide.

These sessions can be especially helpful to high school seniors (and their parents) who are not familiar with sorority life at all, or -- especially in the Southeastern U.S. and Texas -- who do not know much about the somewhat special aspects of sorority recruitment in those areas of the country.

I encourage other GreekChatters to post dates of sessions as they become available.

I also encourage potential new members (and their parents) to attend a session in their hometown area.

So far I can't find any information session for the Tri-City Tampa Bay area Alumnae Panhellenic. Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg often work together on this, but nothing so far this year. We have a meeting in a few weeks and I will let you know if I know anything.

If any PNM has any questions about this area, please send me a PM.

We're not as formal/structured as other cities' Panhellenics, but we have a handful of events/meetings each year and award an annual scholarship.

I'm glad that was brought back. I was there when it closed a few years ago. It was really sad, but there were no volunteers.

I'll add the Cleveland (OH) APH site to the list for the Ohio peeps:

http://www.clevelandpanhellenic.org/

I'm not a member, so I don't know if they regularly help with recs (since not many OH schools are big on them), but there is contact info listed for alumnae in the area.

Are there any in the South Texas region (Corpus Christi)? Also, are these workshops just for high school seniors? And what is the purpose of attending them?

I'm sure there is one in that area or somewhere close to it. You can check their directory here:

http://npcwomen.org/alumnae-panhellenics/directory.aspx

The workshops are geared toward HS seniors, mainly talking to them about the benefits of joining, how the APH can help them get ready for recruitment, and other stuff like what the process is like. I'm sure it can't hurt for you to contact them and maybe attend an event.

If you type in "Corpus Christi Alumnae Panhellenic" you'll find the contact for at least 1 person. This is what I found (it comes straight from the TTU website):

All college-bound high school graduating senior girls and their mothers are invited to the Fort Walton Beach Area Panhellenic Sorority Information Party at 10 a.m. April 11 at Fort Walton Beach Yacht Club, 180 NE Ferry Road. Call [ phone number deleted for this GC post; it IS in the brief posting on the news site]

http://www.thedestinlog.com/articles...each_fort.html

(The notice is way down in the list of "community happenings;" looks like this is a batch of local events published / posted in the March 26, 2009 edition of thedestinlog )

It used to be that each high school hosted its own information session. I wonder why they moved it to the Yacht Club.

I used to write recommendations for local girls; after being given 70 one summer, I think I've done my share. :)
