No. I don't know anyone who does. No stockings, either.
|
If I'm wearing a skirt with thin fabric that becomes seethrough in the sun, I'll wear a half slip. Other than that, not a chance.
|
I wear pantyhose most of the time-in particular, job interviews, funerals, church, official sorority business. Not that I attend any of these often. Party dresses, not so much, ie the dress I wore last night for NYE.
As for slips, well my mom doesn't even wear slips. But she also rarely wears dresses/skirts. My aunt, OTOH, who is 10 years older than mom, wears slips often, esp with her church attire. Which is more legit because she's an usher and wears all white. I thought the purpose of a slip was mainly, to prevent pantylines, but also like a lining for thin skirts/dresses so your legs don't stick to your dress/skirt when you sit. Maybe younger women aren't wearing slips b/c clothing that require it tend to come with a lining, or bc women are wearing more appropriate underwear so there isn't any VPL. |
No, but I keep a couple on hand in case I ever need them. Really, my mom bugged me about it endlessly when I was little, but now I have no need for them. I used to wear slips under thin fabric that could become see-through and that was usually really fancy clothes (for church/holiday parties where your mom dresses you up like a little doll). I never wear any of that stuff now and anything I have that has thin fabric is casual (like 95% of my wardrobe) so a cute cami will do. I wear stockings 1-2 a year, if even that. I don't think I've worn a pair since my college graduation (about 1.5 years ago).
|
I haven't worn a slip since I was 12. I absolutely hated them then, so I'm careful about the skirts I buy now.
I don't think I've worn pantyhose since I was a senior in high school. I had to wear them after winning a pageant I was in at every single public appearance I made. |
I've seen some who NEEDED to wear a slip....
|
I don't buy a skirt unless it is lined or it is a thicker fabric. No need for a slip. For the first time in years and years, I bought a summer dress. It was not lined and I did not wear a slip because it really didn't need it.
|
They still make slips?
|
Ditto. If the skirt/dress if too see-through, I will wear one. There's no point in seeing my Snoopy or Mickey Mouse panties. Just kidding ;)
But I love pantyhose, especially pantyhose with funky prints, like argyle and lines and even opaque tights -- nothing too flashy though, since I'm usually wearing it because of work. When it's hot, I don't wear it. |
^^^ That was my thought. All of the slips I had in the drawer had to be thrown away. The elastic wore out from age.
|
Lmao about the snoopy draws. They should make slips for shorts, bc I was at disneyworld walking behind this older woman with white shorts on with the LOUDEST animal printed draws. It was like wild kingdom or something. I suppose she couldve done the sensible thing and worn black underwear, but hey, she looked like she fit the slip-wearing demographic.
|
Lol. There's a slip wearing demographic?! Jeeze, I've always been told I was old at heart, even though I'm 22. :D
But I know what you mean. And I, too, hate when people wear some loud ass panties under a white/pastel colored pant or skirt. Luckily, I learned to invest in some black thongs. They've been a life saver! |

Only when needed which was about 4 times this past year. I wear pantyhose more often though - maybe once/twice a week when it's colder. During the warmer month, I mostly go bare since I wear some form off open toed shoe 95% of the time.
|
I'd rather wear a slip than a thong!:p

As a child was forced to wear cutesie little dresses with ruffles and such. I felt like I was always wearing a slip and tights.....
I am still revolting... I don't buy dresses or skirts that don't have extra layers or if they are made out of thick fabric. I wear skirts all the time for work, and have no problems. I NEVER wear pantyhose.....Maybe I would if it was cold...it is just too hot for them! |

Boy shorts=the anti-thong |
If I can see light through my skirt or dress, or if the dress is super clingy (like a sweaterdress), I'll wear a slip.
|
I hate slips and I've never worn one in my adult life.
Pantyhose get worn slightly more often (suits with a skirt), but then, I opt for thigh highs because the full on deal just drives me nuts |
I wear a slip when wearing unlined clothing.
I wear pantyhose, whenever the setting dictates it formal parties, in business attire (what do you all wear with skirted business suits? Stockings?), church. I even wear them with slacks. They give you a sleeker appearance to me. |
The majority of dresses nowadays (I can look at the ones of Mom's I've kept and realize this) have a built in lining, therefore there is no need for a slip. If one's unlined and I'm wearing hose I will wear a slip to avoid static.
I wear pantyhose with full business dress and in the winter, because I'm not a freaking idiot. If there is anything more ridiculous than seeing someone running around with bare legs in Pittsburgh in January I don't know what it is. And the ironic thing is many of the people who do this have either fat or veiny legs and really NEED pantyhose 24/7/365. I agree with AA, you'd have to give me quite a bit of $$ to get me to sport a thong. Permanent wedgie is not my idea of fun. |
I agree with 33girl. In the rare occurrence that a dress is unlined and it is thin/light color, I might wear a slip. I think I have two, one black one white. I have three nylons that I wear in formal settings. They were hand-me-downs from my mother who rarely wears nylons and slips although she did when she was younger.
|
I do not own a slip. I also do not own skirts, dresses, or non-jean or chino pants that aren't lined. Between lining and Spanx, I'm pretty home free as far as avoiding VPL and static cling.
|
For the ladies who have Initiation whites which are not lined, PLEASE wear a slip. Wearing a thong doesn't help because we can see that too. If you have cellulite and are not wearing hose, please wear a slip. And, keep in mind, just because it's not see through in "bedroom" lighting, it might be outdoors. Check first. I know they're not comfortable, I know that they add a layer (which in Michigan, in winter, is a good thing) but come on! For job interviews/business attire, please wear hose. Many work places do not allow bare legs.

Sometimes I'll wear a slip - especially with light colored dresses even if they are lined. I don't like pantyhose because even the nudes look really unnatural on my pale skin (which is the point) but I will wear tights. However, I REFUSE to wear leggings!
|
I would wear a slip if the skirts/dresses were unlined, but all of mine are lined, so no need.
But I wear hose all the time, pretty much anytime after October to May if I'm wearing a skirt or dress, mostly because I'm always cold! And I wear knee highs almost every day if I'm not wearing open toed shoes, and my sister always makes fun of me for it, but I love knee highs. |
I wear a slip if the skirt or dress I'm wearing is unlined. I have a white skirt that has lining but you can still see through it in some lights. I wear pantyhose a lot more frequently though. I still like to wear skirts to work during the winter so I put on pantyhose to keep me warm. Also my legs are pale since it's too cold to tan so I wear pantyhose to make the color on my legs look more even.
|
I cannot believe there are still thong nay-sayers. Its really not bad. The wedgie thing doesn't happen too often and I don't think thongs=jezebelling whore.
Boy shorts, otoh, are cute but not practical. They bunch up and give worse pantyline than briefs. The only time I've seen a younger woman wear a slip on TV was Charlotte on SATC, but I'm sure that's written as part of her character. |
I don't own any slips and I don't know anyone in my age group who wears slips. Maybe its a California thing, we are pretty casual here and most girls don't worry too much about the sun shining through their skirts. I don't wear pantyhose either and I almost never see young women wearing them around here.
But most of the sororities here do wear white dresses for initiation. What did the rest of you girls do when you had to wear those white dresses? Was your dress lined? Or did you wear a slip under it? Did you have to wear hose for initiation? |
I think that was the last time i wore a slip was with my white dress at initiation...and i mean everything was white that day. I normally don't wear slips or hosiery. UNLESS the event dictates it or the outfit is thin or clingy.
|
I believe the only time I wore a slip was at my first communion 20 years ago. LOL!

My sorority does initiation nude, personally. I am SO freaking glad they went to battery operated candles because I just am not a risk taking kind of girl. |
I feel bad for the people who were the first posters on these threads - now they're showing up as the thread-starter.

I always wore one with my ritual dress... no one needed to see what type of panties I was wearing. I also wear them with unlined dresses if I think I'll have VPL.

Obviously - although we all believe John McCain was far too liberal. We're hoping Wolfowitz runs in 2012.
