Yes, and your point? She's great. I'm not a country music girl, but there are alot of people out there who are (both in sororities and not).

Also I'm not sure what you're getting at with alot of your posts, especially the inflammatory ones about other sororities in the Greek Life forum. You seem like someone with too much time on his/her hands.

I may not be a sorority girl but i am a sorority woman and i love today's country music(the past 15 yrs). The solist today the carries, shanias, taylors, faiths, and ton of the men too are awesome. I DETEST whinny, blue grass, 1960s, 70s, and some 80s country music.... i will run for the hills. I like the late 80s (1989) Reba, The judds, on.

californiagal01 01-04-2009 01:18 PM

I don't like country music. I also don't understand the appeal of those country crossover types either. All those girls listed, shania, faith, carrie, taylor, the music isn't that good and personally I find them to be boring. They are just pretty girls, I cannot think of any other reason why they are so popular and sell so many albums. I don't get what is the big deal about shania in particular.

About half of my friends are in sororities and about half are not. None of them listen to country music. It seems that there are some very conservative people on this board.

Gee, or maybe it's because some people on this board are from the south and southwest, where country music is very popular. However, I live in Seattle and am liberal, and I still love country music. If you're looking for a reason to not go greek, and think a love of country music by some sorority women is it, then fine. Carry on with your childish way of thinking and leave us alone.

agzg 01-04-2009 04:07 PM

Part of me thinks it's a troll. Why else would someone be soooo concerned about whether or not there are nationally politically conservative sororities? Someone's just trying to get our panties in a bunch.

No need to get snippy about this. I was just expressing a personal opinion, just as some other people who like country music were expressing their opinions.

My decision whether or not to go greek will not depend largely on whether some girls in some sororities listen to country music. The sorority girls I know are not country fans. If other girls in other houses want to listen to country music I don't have a problem with it, I just wouldn't want to be in an organization where I have to hear shania, carrie, tim mcgraw, etc every day.

Judging by your post, I doubt any organization would want someone like you as a member, anyway.

No need to get personal. Everybody has different tastes in music, there are people who don't like to hear hip hop, people who don't like heavy metal, people who don't like jazz, and the list goes on. This doesn't make them good or bad people, it just means they do not enjoy hearing certain kinds of music.

Do you think shania and carrie are so integral to sorority life that no organization would want a member who doesn't want to hear their music every day? I don't think that is the case and certainly hope it is not so.

Methinks this the reincarnation of the recently-banned cardinal96.

Last I checked, that trick had something against Carrie and Shania for some reason.

I am nearly convinced that you are actually a conservative troll trying to make liberals look bad.

Once again, every chapter is made up of very different types of women. In every chapter, there are girls who like all different kinds of music. My chapter had 60 girls in it and our musical tastes were all across the board. Some liked the more mainstream pop stuff, others liked country, others were into indie stuff. Most of us liked a mix of everything.

You really can't judge a chapter based on the musical tastes of its members, because there is no chapter full of women who listen to the SAME type of music.

If you were to walk into recruitment and say "do all of your members like country?" you'd probably get a confused look because, well, every girl in the chapter is into different stuff and you can't make a big generalized answer about that.

Sorority membership is such that you will get to know many different women from different backgrounds.

If you're looking for a group girls who ALL like the same music, are all liberal or conservative, and are all JUST like you, then sorority membership is NOT for you.

Blatent stereotyping and passing judgement on our organizations before getting to know anything about them is getting personal.

I think belonging to a Greek organization would actually help you. There is a great big ol' world out there, hon, and not everyone thinks the same way or likes the same things.

I haven't passed judgment on any organizations. I don't mind being around some people who have different political views or different musical tastes. I have some friends who are more conservative than I am. I had some friends who got me into listening to some music artists that I had not listened to before.

I just don't enjoy listening to country music and would not want to be in a group where that kind of culture is prevalent. I find the music of shania, carrie, taylor swift etc to be very superficial and childish, very "high school". This is my opinion about the music, not a personal criticism of anyone.

Well then you'd better not pledge ANY NPC sorority because we all sing "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" every morning when we wake up. It's like immediate. We open our eyes and it just comes out of our mouths. It's because of the chip they put in our brain at initiation.

What the hell is your problem? You're weird, and you were banned once already. If you don't like sorority girls at Stanford then ignore them.

That's the impression I have too. She's certainly quick to continue with this thread. So Cardinal96, I'm sure your buddy Redon is right behind you.

QFP.

Good call OTW. I think this troll needs to get a life.
For what it's worth, speaking as a native born & bred California girl, I adore country music and know many sorority girls from various organizations who feel the same and guess what? They're all California girls too!

GREAT! Now the secret's out. :p

Thetagirl218 01-05-2009 06:41 PM

californiagal01, you are way too concerned about stupid things when it comes to sorority choice. Politics and Country music? Please! You have obviously not read these forums and realized what sorority membership is really all about!

agzg 01-05-2009 06:57 PM

*ahem* Californiagal01 has been banned.
