I haven't had a gaming system since SNES....

But for some reason I think I want one in 2009.

What's the latest nintendo-based system and do they sell bundles of the old school super mario games?

I don't want to plug in a system and be all virtual reality and motion sickness and shit.

Suggestions?

Easy...The Wii

Get a Wii and you can play the new games and they also have a downloadable system which will also allows you to download and play all of the old games.

You can use the Wii controller to play or get a game cube.

for more info go to www.ign.com and check out the Wii section.

BTW....I think you still may be able to find one in stores as the whole shortage thing is about over, if not, just wait til after the holidays...

Another suggestion, if you don't mind portable systems...get a Nintendo DS. They have 2 Mario games on there you would like.

Xylochick216 12-23-2008 10:41 AM

You can download all the old Mario games on Wii. It's a lot of fun, and you can buy an old-school SNES-looking controller if you don't want to use the WiiMote.

I love Mario Galaxy (the newest Mario adventure) but there are parts that are a tad trippy.

Mario Galaxy almost made me sick...LOL

Kevin 12-23-2008 10:59 AM

You might also consider a Nintendo DS.

Senusret I 12-23-2008 11:16 AM

I'm not too interested in a portable system....but DAMN why is the Wii so expensive? lol

ETA: Okay, it's not so bad.

Tippiechick 12-23-2008 11:30 AM

We just got one. I was excited to find out I could download the original Super Mario Bros. and Zelda. That was enough for me to buy the thing.

Looks like it's gonna be fun.

Senusret I 12-23-2008 11:31 AM

Zelda too?

Oh hell yes. I'm there.

Kevin 12-23-2008 11:39 AM

Why download them when you can play them for free?

www.nintendo8.com

WinniBug 12-23-2008 12:24 PM

I haven't had a gaming system since NES, and we didn't get that until the mid-90's! On my friends' systems, I got to where I could beat the original Super Mario Bros, and knew where all the hidden passageways were. But that was about the only game I ever played. I did get laughed at by that Duck Hunt dog a lot, though....lol
My husband has a Playstation, but I've only played Sims on it on it once or twice, but I kinda want a Wii, too.
Huh - I just did a search on the NES, and when the original system went on sale in 1985, it retailed for what would be $400 today.

Not that I'm aware of.

Maybe it's the too many Kevs thing :)

DaemonSeid 12-23-2008 12:50 PM

A few quick tips on the 3 major game systems out right now

For anyone considering a Game system

go to www.ign.com or www.gamespot.com

If you want a media system to play Blu Rays and the sky is the limit, get a PS3

If you want a system that has more exclusives and first titles, 360.

Xbox 360, because of the new update can now stream movies from netflix, furthermore even if you missed Heroes episodes, you can stream them thru the Xbox 360 in HD for FREE

Wii is more of a kid and family friendly system and as stated earlier, you can download and play older Nintendo titles on the system.

Want to save some money? Buy rechargable batteries for your controllers since they are all wireless now.

If you want to play online with your Xbox, it costs a monthly fee or you can buy a whole year for 50 bucks.

if you have any questions or concerns, and you still can't figure out what you need to get someone for Thursday, drop me a line.

Yes like everyone said---the Wii.

I've started to purchase all the old Mario games that I used to love playing (from the NES system, SNES, N64, etc). You can also buy more than just Mario games, I have a lot of the Sonic the Hedgehog games (that you played on the Sega Genesis).

Senusret I 12-23-2008 03:00 PM

^^^ I think it's CRAZY that you can play Sonic and Mario on the same system!

It's genius! lol. There like 5 different gaming systems that you can purchase games from, i've only heard of Nintendo & Sega.

I also have the Kirby games, and some TMNT games.

Ahh yes, this is next on my list. When I have money (hopefully by Thursday! haha) i'll be able to get the DK games and the N64 Mario games. I've beaten all my SNES and NES Mario games, they are boring now! haha.

I remember I was seriously impressed with the graphics when Donkey Kong Country came out on SNES.

Occasionally slickdeals.net or some other deal websites will have it for cheaper. The husband got his yearly xBox live subscription for around $20 last year off of slickdeals.

I want a Wii but can't justify the cost this year due to the second kid. Maybe next year.

My mom has already tossed her Wiimote

My favorite website for keeping up to speed on videogame deals is Cheap Ass Gamer. Register for the forum if you really want to stay ahead of the curve; they post the weekly ads about two weeks in advance.

LeslieAGD 12-24-2008 12:49 PM

Get a Wii...they are awesome. There are tons of games featuring the Mario characters.

Elephant Walk 12-24-2008 02:44 PM

Go to the pawn shop or old gaming store and buy a Sega Genesis.

You'll never look back.

Hahaha....I wanted one of those so bad when I was a kid, I would go over to my cousin's and play his!!! I just had an SNES!

I would say the Wii is the best deal! As for the price, it is worth it if you use it! Its unlike any other gaming system I have ever played!

Tippiechick 12-25-2008 07:12 PM

I LOVE our Wii. We have already played a lot since "Santa" brought it this morning.

Tippiechick 12-26-2008 01:05 AM

Holy shit. I LOVE THIS THING. I now have downloaded Super Mario Brothers, Zelda, Pacman, SMBros.2, and Sonic (the original).

I am so proud of myself for remembering how to get to the warp zone in SMB!

Senusret I 12-26-2008 01:11 AM

Okay, I am sooooooo gonna get this thing as my MLK Day/Inauguration Day gift.

(Who says they aren't gift-giving holidays?)

The latest Nintendo is the Wii, it's the one you get up and move around to play the games. As far as I know there is no old school bundle.

However, you can download the old school games on a PS3...i'm going to do that soon, it's my new yea'rs resolution

so i guess my sugesstion would be the PS3. It's also a computer and blu-ray disc player

I only got numbers to argue against the PS3

400 bucks and 500 bucks...depending on the Hard Drive size.

My favorite game by far for the Wii is Tetris Party - but we haven't played the games we got for Christmas like the new Rayman (you play it with your butt!) so we'll see... Maybe I'll have a new favorite. Running a close second will always be Guitar Hero.

Unregistered- 12-27-2008 05:27 PM

Wii came in handy this morning when cable and internet were down.

Off to Wal-Mart today to get some games. Any suggestions?
