AOII Convention 2009!

Its in my hometown of Tampa, FL so I think its obvious I will be going..anyone else?

AOIIalum 12-20-2008 10:13 AM

Hurray! I'll be there.

AOII Angel 12-20-2008 12:48 PM

I'l be there! I've already taken vacation time!!! It's my first convention since 1995 in Arizona.

CUBuffs 12-23-2008 08:18 PM

I'm going! I'm going to merge it into a visit to my parents who live about 2 hours South of Tampa.

Beryana 01-10-2009 12:03 PM

I wish I could afford to go - but just too expensive :( I would like to make one convention someday. It would also be nice to have a convention somewhere up norther where it is cooler (other NPC groups do it so it is feasible).

This reminds me...just how much is it to attend? I wont need airfare, just a 20 minute drive :)

It depends on what you go to. Since you won't need a flight or a hotel room, it won't be that much. If you go to every dinner, it adds up a little though. I'm sure they have a discount rate for collegians for the actual convention fee.

It's for everybody.

Beryana 03-07-2009 09:22 PM

soo.......I decided to go to Convention this year :) With airline miles I found a ticket roundtrip for under $200 (YAY!) and will see about the fees since I am an officer and going as the delegate for our new Alumnae Chapter (we are just waiting to be installed. . .). If I have to pay the whole thing, that's okay - though I wouldn't mind getting part of it taken care of lol

The downside is that there is a WWII reenactment the weekend before and I can't do both :(

Yippee and congratulations!! You are going to have so much fun at convention. It is certainly a memorable experience. When is your AC going to be installed?

twinkle555 03-09-2009 02:01 PM

Ok I heard this rumor and want to make sure its just that..a rumor:

I am a recent alumna of my chapter (went alum in December b/c i graduated)....do I have to volunteer? I heard that actives can just go..but alums cant just go...they have to volunteer..

Rumor but if you would like to volunteer to staff a table or work the Emporium, I don't think that they would turn you down. Many hands make light work!

CUBuffs 03-11-2009 06:47 PM

Many alumnae who attend Convention aren't volunteers, they just like to go and catch up with friends and enjoy a vacation!

twinkle555 03-11-2009 08:22 PM

Ok thats what I thought :)

AOII Angel 03-12-2009 12:19 PM

Yay...I just found out that my alum chapter is sending me to convention as an alternate for our President who can't get off work!

twinkle555 05-01-2009 03:18 AM

Sad news, I actually wont be going. Its just too expensive, even if I wanted to only go part-time. Its so annoying too bc its seriously 15 min away! Anyways, to all the sisters that are going, have fun for me and hopefully I'll be able to make it to the next one!

AOIIalum 05-01-2009 06:37 AM

Awww, darn it! What a shame, especially since it's so close for you.

AOII Angel 05-01-2009 01:20 PM

Can you just go to Rose Banquet? It would be one event and you wouldn't have to register for the entire conference. My older sister will be doing that!

OleMissGlitter 05-01-2009 03:19 PM

Yes you can get a separate application to attend certain events. My younger sister (an AOII too) who lives in the Tamapa area will be joining me for the Awards Banquet. You just have to pay separately for each event.

I have a silly question. I was looking through the pictures and saw all the nametags with colored tags attached. I've never been to Convention, but I was wondering what these are for? I couldn't read any of them.

AOIIalum 07-21-2009 11:23 AM

Pink=Alumnae chapter member
Berry/Burgundy=Life Loyal
White w/ red printing=Loyalty Fund Donor

There are others for various chapter award winners (usually worn by the President), scholarship winners, a few scholarship fund donors, HQ staff, and I know I'm forgetting a bunch.

It's like Convention bling. You try to see who can get the most stuff to hang from your badge including rose tributes. Some people from executive board and IHQ had hundreds, if not thousands of dollars worth of rose tributes hanging from their nametags! I had an Alum chapter member, Life loyal, Loyalty Fund, President's Club, Ruby Award, Foundation Scholarship Winner and Ginger Banks Scholarship Donor ribbons hanging from mine. If I had anymore, they'd have tripped me!:p I know the green one was the Second Century Society for members who have pledged to leave money to AOII in their wills.

AOII*Azra-elle 07-21-2009 09:48 PM

I know I saw alot of people that had TONS of the roses. I was kind of shocked by that alone! Thanks. :)

Every one of those roses cost $5.00 a piece, so you can imagine how many roses were handed out to add up to the more than $25,000 raised for the Endowment Fund at Convention!
