US President Quiz

Ok, now that the Supreme Court have decided that the Obama citizen case will not be herd, I have a quiz for you:

Who was the first US President to be born in the United States of America.

wolffootball37 12-13-2008 04:58 AM

Martin Van Bure... Wikipedia is my friend!

summer_gphib 12-13-2008 05:04 AM

George Washington was born in Virginia, but obviously before the Revolution.

No fair. Answear is correct.

The entity the United States of America did not exist when George Washington was born.

honeychile 12-13-2008 01:25 PM

Okay... Who was the first President to be born in a log cabin?

sceniczip 12-13-2008 11:34 PM

Andrew Jackson was the first to be born in a log cabin, I think...

That is correct, as far as I know (and I consider myself pretty well-versed on Presidential history).

honeychile 12-14-2008 01:05 PM

Yes, the answer is Jackson. Anyone else have some Presidential trivia? (read: stop me before I keep going!)

KappaKittyCat 12-14-2008 03:37 PM

I'm sure everyone knows this one, but I'll throw it out there anyway:

Who was the first (and only - that we know of ) President to get stuck in a bathtub?

William Howard Taft.

LaneSig 12-14-2008 08:31 PM

Who was the first president to be born in a hospital?

You would be right! Your turn.

LaneSig 12-17-2008 01:23 PM

Since KSigkid hasn't asked one, I will.

Who was the only sitting president not nominated by his party to run for a
2nd term?

honeychile 12-17-2008 02:47 PM

Teddy Roosevelt (Bullmoose Party)?

I don't think that qualifies, though, because he wasn't actively seeking the nomination. He was propping up Taft as his successor by that point.

ETA: I think it was Chester Arthur - is that correct?

LaneSig 12-17-2008 05:20 PM

Sorry, you are both wrong.

ThetaDancer 12-17-2008 05:29 PM

Millard Fillmore?

I don't know if I remember that whole scenario correctly, but it's worth a shot.

Not to be picky, but I looked it up, and it appears he was a sitting president who kept himself in the running for the nomination, but was not nominated for a second term.

ThetaDancer 12-17-2008 07:06 PM

^^^ Yeah, your answer is right. I think mine is, too, meaning that there were at least 2 sitting presidents not nominated by their respective parties for a 2nd term.

LaneSig 12-18-2008 10:04 AM

^^

Okay, I will accept both. I had always been told that Franklin Pierce was the only president not renominated by his party.

"By the end of his administration, Pierce could claim "a peaceful condition of things in Kansas." But, to his disappointment, the Democrats refused to renominate him, turning to the less controversial Buchanan. Pierce returned to New Hampshire, leaving his successor to face the rising fury of the sectional whirlwind. He died in 1869. "

So we have 3 - Pierce, Arthur, and Fillmore.

Next?

honeychile 12-18-2008 12:05 PM

Here's an easy one: Who's the only President with four syllables in his surname?

sceniczip 12-18-2008 12:13 PM

Eisenhower?

Who was the first president to be inaugurated in Washington?

honeychile 12-19-2008 12:31 AM

Has to be Jefferson.

Yep, it's Jefferson.

honeychile 12-19-2008 01:13 PM

Keeping up with the Jeffersonian trend, since his wife died prior to his becoming President, who acted as his hostess (the term "First Lady" had yet to be coined)?

sceniczip 12-19-2008 01:33 PM

Dolly Madison I think?

The big guy! W.H. Taft

OK, I hope this hasn't been asked yet, I pop in and out of this thread -- what President spoke to his wife in another language when they wanted to have a private conversation in public, and for bonus points, what language was it?

sceniczip 12-20-2008 12:20 AM

Herbert Hoover and Chinese? I'm not really sure on this one tho...

sceniczip 12-20-2008 01:18 AM

:)

which president was never married?

honeychile 12-20-2008 01:28 AM

Buchanan.

honeychile 12-20-2008 01:31 AM

(upping the ante)
Which President's wife was so crosseyed that she only ever had her photo taken in profile?

(The fact that I'm saying "President's wife" and not "First Lady" should help.)
